Frederick Soop

Frederick Soop, 86, of DeLand passed away on Tuesday, September 20 at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach. Mr. Soop was born in Tampa, FL. He moved to this area in 1980 from Detroit, Michigan when he retired as an electrical engineer from Ford Motor Company.
Mr. Soop is survived by a son, Frederick Soop, Jr. of Cary, IL and two grandchildren.

Vivian Hill
April 28, 1922 - September 18, 2005
Funeral service for Vivian Hill, 83, East Minnesota Avenue, DeLand, who died Sunday, September 18, 2005, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 21, at Lankford Funeral Homes & Crematory, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand. Calling hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hill, a retired accountant, was born in Spartenburg, SC and moved to this area in 1986 from Hialeah, FL. She was a member of the WAVES during World War II. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of DeLand and was a charter member of Hialeah Methodist Church. She was also a former Girl Scout leader in Hialeah.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Hendrick of DeLand; four sisters, Hazel Higgenbotham and Yvonne Ramage of Bowling Green, KY, and Adele Poythress and Irene Baker of Richmond, VA; two brothers, James Clark of Henderson, NC and Eugene Clark of Bowling Green, KY; and grandson and granddaughter-in-law, William and Angela Whitten, Orlando.
Gertrude E. Brown
January 30, 1918 - September 14, 2005
Gertrude E. Brown, 87, of West New York Avenue, a resident since 2000, died Wednesday at The Good Shepard Assisted Living Facility.
Mrs. Brown, a homemaker, was born in Tawas City, Michigan and moved to this area from Michigan.
Survivors include a son, Alvin of Seminole; two daughters, Arlene Pascoe and Barbara Edwards, both of Clarkson, Michigan; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Robert Drayton Summers
March 18, 1923 - September 10, 2005
Robert Drayton Summers, 82, of N. Colorado Avenue in DeLand, passed away on Saturday, September 10th at Florida Hospital DeLand. Memorial service for Mr. Summers will be held Tuesday, September 13, at 4PM at Lankford Funeral Homes and Cremetory, 220 E. New York Avenue, DeLand, Florida, with the Rev. Robert Vance officiating.
Mr. Summers was born in Lake City, Florida and graduated from the University of Florida in 1948. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Summers moved from Lake City to DeLand in 1956. In 1958, he began his career with Volusia County as Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court. Mr. Summers retired in 1981 as Assistant Financial Director for Volusia County.
Robert Summers was a member of the DeLand Elks Lodge #1463 where he was a past treasurer and secretary. He was an avid golfer and was a Charter Member of the DeLand Country Club and also a member of Southridge Golf Course. He was a big fan of the Florida Gators.
Mr. Summers is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marsha Summers; one son, Dray Summers of DeLand; three daughters, Kim Gerdis of Sarasota, FL, Susan Persis of Ormond Beach, FL and Megan Summers of Beaufort SC; and grandchildren, Alexander Clark Cone II, Hannah Summers, Jacob Summers, Ella Gerdis and Grace Gerdis.

Edward T. Harry

Edward T. Harry, 43, of Holly Hill passed away Friday, September 9, at his home. Mr. Harry was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to this area from there in 1974.
Mr. Harry is survived by his mother, Carmen Caudill Thorn of Leesburg, FL; a brother, Johnnie Harry of Ohio and a sister, Kathy Caves of Lake Helen, FL.
Bobby R. Kearns
February 10, 1938 - September 9, 2005
Bobby R. Kearns, 67, of Eagles Nest Avenue, a former apartment complex maintenance supervisor, died Thursday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.
Mr. Kearns was born in Cynthiana, KY and moved here from Tamarac in 1986. He was an avid baseball fan and formerly served as a little league coach for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Judy; a son, Jimmy of Clearwater and a daughter, Robin Shedd of Longwood.

Mary Brown
July 29, 1948 - September 8, 2005
Mary Brown, 57, of West Lake Drive, a seamstress, died Thursday at University Center East.
Mrs. Brown was born in Jersey City, NJ and moved to this area in 1975 from Charlevoix, Mich. She was past president of the Women of the Moose, and member of the Order of Eastern Star, Eagles, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of DeLand. She was also a secretary and bookkeeper.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Partin of Daytona Beach and Robyn Harrington-Schmidt of DeLand; her mother, Gertrude Funk of Bayonne, NJ; a brother, John Funk of Keansburg, NJ; a sister, Diana Conklin of Bayonne, NJ and six grandchildren.

Gail Gabbard

A private memorial service for Gail Gabbard, 67, North Yonge Street, Ormond Beach, who died Thursday, September 8, 2005, at Florida Hospital DeLand, will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Gabbard was born in Ithaca, NY and moved from there to this area in 1963. She was a secretary and a member of the Moose Club, Cortland, NY. She loved NASCAR, gardening and had a love for hummingbirds.
Survivors include her husband, Abe Gabbard of Ormond Beach; a son, Guy Tuckerman of Port Orange; daughters, Carla Black of DeLand, Peggy Smith of Lake Helen and Shelva Strosahl of Holly Hill; mother, Mary James of Ithaca and three grandchildren. Mrs. Gabbard was predeceased by her brother, Gary James.

William F. "Doc" Maloy

William F. "Doc" Maloy, 79, of Chipola Avenue, a former radio disc jockey for WELE (1380 AM), died Wednesday at Woodland Terrace Nursing Center.
Mr. Maloy was born in Philadelphia and moved to this area in 1975 from Miami.
Survivors include a son, William Jr. of Bristol, PA; a daughter, Kathleen Clemins of Langhorne, PA and five grandchildren.
Jesse May Rinehart
December 18, 1919 - September 6, 2005
Jesse May Rinehart, 85, of North Woodland Boulevard, a retired school traffic supervisor, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital DeLand.
Mrs. Rinehart was born in Everett, Mass. and moved to this area in 1979 from Medford, Mass. She was a member of the Red Hat Society of DeLand. She enjoyed bowling and bingo.
Survivors include a son, Scott of Spring Hill, TN a daughter, Jill Logue of Philadelphia, PA and four grandchildren.
Lillian Rodella

Lillian Rodella, 84, of Elkcam Boulevard, a resident since 1995, died Monday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mrs. Rodella, a homemaker, was born in Union City, NJ and moved to this area in 1995 from New Jersey.
Survivors include two sons, Peter of DeBary and Frank of Wilkes-Barre, PA; a daughter, Judy Wheeler of Hampton, NJ; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
