Mrs. Pauline Etheridge, 59, of 4807 Sunset Drive, Parker, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, in her home. She was previously the insurance office supervisor at Bay Medical Center, retiring from that position in 1990. Approximately two years before retiring, she was assigned as a computer analyst and was instrumental in coordinating the installation and operation of a patient accounting and billing system. Upon retirement in 1990, she immediately opened her own very successful medical consulting and administrative service; namely Medical Insurance Services. Born in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, she moved to Bay County with her family in 1955 and graduated from Bay High School in 1960. She was preceded in death by a son, Trenton Eric Etheridge. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, LTC (retired) John T. Etheridge; a son, Scott Allen Etheridge; her mother, Stella Newhook; a sister, Carol Kelley and her husband, Steve; a niece, Chantel Ford; all of Panama City; and numerous other aunts and uncles, residing in Florida and Newfoundland. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Moore officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Robert Howard, Eugene Roberts, Scott Etheridge, Steve Kelley, Everett Holmon and Michael Woodrow. ELIZABETH ELLIS NIXON
On Oct. 16, 2001, Elizabeth Ellis Nixon, a lifelong resident of Panama City, Fla., died peacefully at her home. She was the daughter of Grady and Nellie Belle Ellis and was a graduate of Bay County High School. She was the widow of Ray Boyer Nixon, whose death preceded hers by three years. While she was a former member of the St. Andrew Bay Yacht Club, the First United Methodist Church, and worked for many years as secretary to the county judge for Bay County, she always considered her family as her pride and love. "Libba," as she was affectionately called by all, had three children, James M. Nixon II and his wife, Judy, of Bradenton, Fla., Ray Byron Nixon and Sandy Summerbell of Panama City, Janet Nixon Dunkin and her husband, David, of Englewood, Fla.; three sisters, Eloise Smith and her husband, Horace, Martha Thorne, Mary Catherine Warren and her husband, Loyd; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Downer, Florence Ellis, all of Panama City; five grandchildren, James M. (Jimmy) Nixon III, Shelly Nixon, Jennifer Nixon Owens and her husband, Rick, Staci Dunkin, Eric Byron Nixon; two great-grandchildren, Ryan Joseph Owens, Emily Lyn Owens; and numerous nieces and nephews. In the last years of Libba's life, she was constantly cared for by Bennie Betties and her extended family, whose love, care, and consideration was greatly appreciated by Libba, and her children and family will be eternally grateful. The family appreciates the tender care by the staff of Covenant Hospice. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Jack "Dad" Phillips Jr., 54, of Miami, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Northshore Hospital in Miami, Fla. Jack attended the Bay County school system. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Phillips Sr., and a brother, Woodrow Phillips. Jack is survived by his loving mother, Mrs. Alberta Phillips, of Panama City. In 1970 he moved to Miami and met a special friend and soulmate, Malancia Kinsey. Jack is also survived by five daughters, Cheryl Ann (Charles) Shields of Gainesville, Jaqualine Phillips, Padra, Ladon and LaNetta Kinsey, of Miami; seven sons, Jack III of Stark, Fla., Willie James Mathes, Jack (Karen) Kinsey, Eric, Darryl, Travis, and Jarmine Kinsey of Miami, Fla.; four sisters, Mary (Clifford) Muse of Falls Church, Va., Barbara (John) Mitchell of Panama City, Sylvia Wilkerson and Sydney Phillips of Pensacola; three brothers, Leonard (Johnnie Mae) Phillips of Columbus, Ga., Anthony Ray Phillips of Washington, D.C., Charles (Mildred) Phillips of Houston, Texas; a special nephew, Derrick (Sharon) Phillips of Upper Marlboro, Md.; three aunts: Tearetha (Jerry) Deloach, Johnnie Mae Davis and Leola (Alec) Johnson of Panama City; two uncles, Edward (Edna) Stewart of Panama City and the Rev. Ethel Webb (Stripling) Poche, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at her home. She was born in Walton County and had resided in Port St. Joe for the past 11 1/2 years. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Berhman A. Poche, and her son, James Malcolm Stripling. Born in Greenwood, she was retired from Sears and Roebuck as an auditor in Pensacola, and was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chapman Smith, in 1999. The family of Christine Waterfield is mourning the death of their mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who passed away on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2001. Christine was born in Etawah County in Alabama on May 28, 1909. She was married in St. Louis, Mo., and moved to Panama City in 1944, where she was a homemaker and a friend to all. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earle. She leaves behind one son and daughter-in-law, Bentley and Virginia Waterfield of Destin; one daughter, Mary Holbrook of Sandestin; four grandchildren, Benny Waterfield and wife, Karen, of Destin, Terri Barnette and husband, Billy, of Pensacola, and Kenneth Mattes and wife, Allison, of Pinehurst, N.C., and John Mattis of Atlanta, Ga. Her great-grandchildren are Taylor Waterfield of Destin and Lyndsey and Jordan Barnette of Pensacola. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Panama City. The Rev. Dennis B. Baum will officiate. Her ashes will be interred in the Memorial Garden at the church following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaughlin Funeral Home of Fort Walton Beach. The family requests that anyone who wishes to honor her memory may do so with donations in her name to St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Panama City's discretionary fund or the building fund of St. Andrews By-The-Sea in Destin.

Mrs Frances G. West, 85, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area since 1946, coming here from Geneva, Ala. Mrs. West was a member of the Eastern Star of St. Andrew, the Springfield Community Church, and was a charter member of the Maple Avenue Baptist Church of Geneva, Ala. Harold S. Novak, 80, died peacefully at home on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001. Originally from Kansas City, Kan., where he was employed as a mechanical engineer with Phillips Petroleum Company, he and his wife, Dorothy Lou, moved to Panama City Beach, Fla., in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Lou, of Panama City Beach; three children, Judith, from New York City, Steven, from Atlanta, and Sara, from Denver; four grandchildren, Tammie, Krista, Tracy, and Nina; and three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Brianna, and Ansley.
