Jean A. Simser, 83, of Spring Garden Ranch Road, who retired as a special education teacher in New York, died Sunday at Woodland Terrace Nursing Center, DeLand. Mrs. Simser, who received a master's degree from St. Lawrence University, was born in Antwerp, NY and moved to this area in 1975 from Saratoga Springs, NY. She was a member of the United States Trotting Association. She also worked as a bookkeeper for her husbands standardbred stable. Mrs. Simser was an accomplished horsewomen having trained horses and participated in several races.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Ray; two sons, J. Perry of DeLand, and James of Rochester, NY; a sister, Barbara Dawson of Watertown, NY; and two granddaughters.

Helen Dickerson Mullins
April 23, 1917 - October 26, 2005
Helen Dickerson Mullins, 88, of Amy Circle in Deltona, a retired registered nurse for the Veterans Administration, died Wednesday at Golden Age Villa Assisted Living Facility. Mrs. Mullins was born in Lawton, OK, and moved to this area in 2002 from Fullerton, CA. She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick of DeLand and Michael of Fullerton, CA; a daughter, Linda McCormack of Delmar, MD; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Kathleen "Kathy" Reynolds
June 13, 1958 - October 25, 2005
Memorial service for Kathleen "Kathy" Reynolds, 47, Daugharty Road, DeLand, who died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at her home, will be 11 a.m. Sunday, October 30, at the Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand, with the Rev. Michael Fronk officiating.
Mrs. Reynolds was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to this area 26 years ago from Taylor, Michigan. She was a reuse coordinator for the City of Daytona Beach for over 25 years. She enjoyed golf, crafts and had a deep love for animals.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, John N. Reynolds, DeLand; two sons, John Reynolds and Joshua Reynolds, both of DeLand; her parents, James and Brenda Jordan of DeLand; a sister, Cynthia Jordan of DeLand; and maternal grandmother, Mary G. Boen of Orange City, FL.
Ruby W. Hall
August 3, 1916 - October 24, 2005
Ruby W. Hall, 89, of Rock Hill, SC, a former DeLand, resident, died Monday, October 24 at Agape Rehabilitation Nursing Home, Rock Hill. A graveside service will be at DeLand Memorial Gardens at 2:30 p.m. with a viewing at Lankford Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Thursday, October 27.
Born in Woodruff, SC, Mrs. Hall was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Wall of McCormick, SC. Mrs. Hall was married to the late Harry Hall of DeLand. She was a member and past superintendent of the Sunday school for Stetson Baptist Church, DeLand. She was a member and past president of the women's auxiliary of the Lake Beresford Yacht Club and past president of the Lake Beresford Garden Club.
Surviving are her brother, Tom Wall of McCormick, SC; her son, Jack Hall of Fort Mill, SC and her grandson, Brian Hall of Tuscumbia, AL.
Margaret Mary Eidson
May 25, 1924 - October 22, 2005
Margaret Mary Eidson, 81, of South Amelia Avenue, a resident since 1950, died Saturday, October 22 at Oakwood Garden of DeLand. Mrs. Eidson, a homemaker, moved to this area from her native Connecticut.
Survivors include a niece, Jackie Moss, DeLeon Springs, who provided for her care.
Sara Elizabeth "Betty" Nesmith

Funeral service for Sara Elizabeth (Betty) Nesmith, 74, Hontoon Road, DeLand, who died at home Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, in the chapel of Lankford Funeral Homes & Crematory, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand, with Dr. David Goodroe, pastor of Stetson Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery
in Ocala. Calling hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, October 24, at Lankford Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nesmith was born in Ocala and moved to the DeLand area in 1960 from Ocala. She was a member of Stetson Baptist Church and a volunteer for the Hospice League of Volusia. Mrs. Nesmith was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Quinton Nesmith.
Survivors include her sons, George H. Nesmith of Las Vegas, Nevada and John D. Nesmith of DeLand; sisters, Georgia Hunter of Ocala and Eva Morgan of Phoenix, Oregon; and grandson, Zane Nesmith of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mary L. Michaels

Mary L. Michaels, 85, of Chipola Avenue, a registered nurse, died Friday October 21 at Florida Hospital DeLand. Born in Wilkes Barre, PA, Mrs. Michaels, a Navy veteran serving with the Ensign Nurses Corps during World War II, moved here in 1985 from Key Largo.
She was a member of Grace Methodist Church, a judge at the voting polls and a member of a computer club all in Lake Bluff, IL.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Nicholas; two sons, Paul of Boise, Idaho, and John of Wilsonville, OR; a daughter, Joan Emmet of Durham, CT; a brother, Peter Lach of Lansing, Michigan; two sisters, Jeannie Craig and Elizabeth Barry, both of Chandler, OK and four grandchildren.
Donald Goddard
April 15, 1959 - October 17, 2005
Donald Goddard, 46, of Plum Drive, a drywaller, died Monday as the result of an automobile accident on West French Avenue. Mr. Goddard was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, and came here in 1985 from Virginia.
Survivors include his mother, Roberta Smith of DeLand, a brother, Larry Goddard of Hardeeville, SC and a sister, Kathy Holmes of Beauford, SC.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Michael Daniel Moore
January 22, 1944 - October 17, 2005
Michael Daniel Moore, 61, of Windy Knoll Lane, who was self-employed in the real estate management industry, died Monday at home. Mr. Moore was born in Columbus, Ohio, and moved to this area in 1968 from Ohio.
He was a 1962 graduate of the Florida military School. He was a member of the Sanford Masonic Lodge No. 62 F&AM, Sanford.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Anne and a son, Dave of Astor.
Sue Emma Melvin
November 19, 1947 - October 17, 2005
Memorial service for Sue Emma Melvin, 57, Tanglewood Drive, Orange City, who died Monday, October 17, 2005, at Ridgecrest Manor, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 20, at the Open Bible Baptist Church of Orange City, with Pastor Paul Youmans officiating.
Mrs. Melvin was born in Wilmington, Delaware and moved from there to this area in 1978. She was a member of the Open Bible Baptist Church, Orange City, and the West Volusia Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas Melvin of Orange City, a son, Paul D. Melvin of Orange City and mother, Annie Leager of Smyrna, Delaware. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arlie and Clara Mays.

Mary Divola, 87, of Orange City, passed away Saturday, October 16, at the Shady Lane Assisted Living Facility in Orange City, FL.
Mrs. Divola was born in New York City, NY and moved to this area in 1986 from Fort Pierce, Florida. She was a retired seamstress.
Robert O. Donohue

Robert O. Donohue, 69, of Chipola Avenue, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday at Florida Hospital DeLand. Mr. Donohue moved to this area in 1966 from Long Island, N.Y. A former sporting goods salesman, he also did office and piece work for in a sheltered workshop.
Mr. Donohue was member of the men's club and residents council at Woodland Terrace and also was a former member of the Stetson Booster Club. He was an avid sports fan.
No known immediate relatives survive.
