Mr. Robert Johnson Jr., 88, of 1405 Flower Ave., died Sept. 8, 2001, in a local nursing center. He was a native of Atmore, Ala., and a resident of Panama City for many years. He was a bricklayer. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Sheila Lawrence; four sisters, Elmira Miller, Gertrude Mitchell, Dolly Johnson and Sarah Johnson; six brothers, Abraham, Hosa, Steve, Louis, Clarence and Henry. He is survived by granddaughter, Gloria Lawrence; five grandsons, Danny Lawrence, Robert Lee Lawrence, Casey Lawrence, Marvin Lawrence and Elijah Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Cecelia Lawrence, Erica Lawrence, Mitchell Grady, Danny Lawrence Jr., Cakisha Youngblood and Carlos Lawrence; three sisters, Ethel Gordener (David), Lillie Tompkin (Samson), and Flora Thomas (James); a brother, Claude Johnson (Olla); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. in North Bay Community Church of God, 1706 Flower Ave., with Pastor Wendell Raulerson officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until service time. CECIL A. STAFFORD
Mr. Cecil A. Stafford, age 86, of Panama City, Fla., passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at a local hospital. A native of Sylvania, Ga., he had lived in Panama City for 40 years. He was a retired Master Sgt., serving during World War II and Korea after 20 years of service. He also was a school bus driver for 17 years for Bay District Schools. He was a member of the Parker Methodist Church. Mr. Stafford was an avid baseball fan and loved watching the Chicago Cubs. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Iris Stafford of Panama City, Fla.; four sons, Aubrey Stafford and Jerome Stafford, both of Bear Creek, Fla., Larry Stafford and his wife, Rose of Dirego Park, Fla., and Kevin Stafford of Parker, Fla.; a daughter, Wanda Stafford of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Lillie Mae Boyette of Statesboro, Ga.; four grandchildren, Alan Stafford, Angela Stafford, Amy Strasbaugh and Eric Stafford; and one great-grandson, Logan Strasbaugh. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Malsoi officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Alice Taylor, 58, of 1417 Wisconsin Ave., Lynn Haven, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, in the Gulf Coast Convalescent Center. She was a native of Choctaw County, Ala. During her lifetime she became well known in the community. She joined the Shilo Baptist Church in Bolinger, Ala. Years later she moved to Caryville where she joined the St. Matthews Church under the Rev. James Johns. When she moved to Panama City she joined Set Free Evangalist Outreach Church of God in Christ. On Jan. 25, 1958, she married the late Rev. Gray Taylor, to this union of 36 years eight children were born. She is survived by six daughters, Mary Taylor, Panama City; Annie (Ronnie) Washington, Panama City, Jessie (Gearld) Anderson, Bonifay, Marilyn (Willie) Scarborough, Panama City, Vanessa Taylor, Lillie Taylor (Robert Tate), Panama City; two sons, Grady Taylor and Henry Taylor, Panama City; two grandchildren, Joseph Taylor, Panama City and Jessica Taylor, Bonifay; four sisters, Rogenia Leverette, Panama City; Lillie V. Daily, Mobile, Eliza Williamson, Chipley, Bobbie (Fread) Nelson, Pascagoula, May Florance Causey, Panama City; 29 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, five brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law. Funeral services for Mrs. Taylor will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Love Center Missionary Baptist Church with Moderator Rufus Woods officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Mr. Clayborn Thornton Jr., 72, of 446 E. 13th St., died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, in a local hospital. He was a native of Headland, Ala., and a resident of Panama City for many years. He was a U.S. Army Korea veteran. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Ruby Lee Thornton of Panama City; two devoted nieces, Martha Pearl Henderson (Richard) and Juanita Jones; stepson, Ernest Jones; brother-in-law, Odell Williams; sister-in-law, Alberta Williams; special friends, L.B.
