MRS. IONA MCWHITE
Mrs. Iona McWhite, 56, of 351 College Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 30, at her home. She was a native of Montgomery, Ala., but had been a longtime resident of Panama City. Iona McWhite was born Sept. 24, 1944, to the late Mr. Felix Streeter and Ms. Mattie Pearl Tolbert. Iona was married to Mr. Leamon McWhite and unto this union was born six children. Iona was a member of Order Missionary Church of Detroit, Mich., and later, a member of Jesus Only Tabernacle of Panama City. She is preceded in death by her daughter Lacheryl Streeter. Iona leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Leamon McWhite; three sons, Jeremiah (Teresa) Weaver of Orlando, Daniel (Tracie) Smith of Miami and Corinthian (Tamika) Ross of Panama City; two daughters, Elaine Sudduth of Panama City and Deborah Ann Ross of Jacksonville; two loving stepdaughters, Maria (Eddie) Weaver and Vivian Abrams of Panama City; two sisters, Mattie Dunbar of Jacksonville and Mabel Dingway of Tuscon, Ariz.; one brother, Robert (Cubie) Streeter of Slocumb, Ala.; two caring aunts, Lillie Mae Weaver and Eva Herron; two special son-in-laws, Sammy Singleton and Tyrone Jenkins; her godmother, Minnie Banks; special cousins, Nell Smith, Collye Manning, Yvonne (Joe) Bower, Barbara Britt Brown and Gloria Moye; 28 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thanks to the Hospice of Northwest Florida. Funeral services for Mrs. McWhite will be held Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Jesus Only Tabernacle located at 1411 Fortune Ave. with the Rev. Willie A. Bright officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. today. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services. The family will receive friends at 351 College Ave.

Funeral services for John Thomas Barnes, 81, of Panama City, who died on Aug. 31, 2001, will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Phil Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A memorial service for Mr. David L. Beale, 64, of Panama City, who died Aug. 31, 2001, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at 3:30 p.m. in the Unity Church of Panama City at 1764 Lisenby Avenue, Panama City, with the Rev. Tommy Holmes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Emerald Coast Hospice, in memory of Mr. Beale.

Funeral services for Mr. W.L. "Coonie" Cannon, age 77 of Red Bay, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at the Red Bay Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike McVay officiating. Interment will follow at Red Bay Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mike Rushing, Mike Wells, Randy Cassidy, Jimmy McCullers, Sonny Guiffre and Allen White. Honorary pallbearers will be the Red Bay Community and members of the Masonic Lodge No. 157. In lieu of flowers , contributions in his name may be made to the Hospice of the Emerald Coast, P.O. RICHARD LEWIS COX
Mr. Richard Lewis Cox, 70, of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Birmingham, Ala., passed away in his home on Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, while surrounded by loved ones. He was a member of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. Mr. Cox attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and served in the U.S. Air Force for two years where he was a pilot. He was also the founder of Cox Pools and Red Bay Sand Company. Mr. Cox is survived by his wife, Mary Cox of Augusta, Ga.; one son, Richard L. Cox, Jr; three daughters, Virginia McFerrin, Dorothy Pickett and Courteney Cox Arquette; seven grandchildren; two brothers, W. Pete Cox Jr., James L. Cox; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Cox Waitzman; four stepchildren, Craig Mullins, Lee Mullins, Cheryl Vincent and Jennifer Russo. A memorial service was held on Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, at 5 p.m. in the St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Alabama Comprehensive Cancer Center, Hospice of the Emerald Coast or to St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in memory of Mr. Cox.

Funeral services for Clarence Dalton Glenn Jr., Lt. Col. USAF, ret., of 925 North Bay Drive in Lynn Haven, who entered into God's heavenly kingdom on Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at 11:34 a.m, will be held at 10 a.m. today in the Tyndall Air Force Base Chapel 2 with Chaplain Daniel Nigolian officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors conducted at graveside. Those desiring to may make a contribution to your favorite charity in memory of Mr. C.D. Glenn Jr.

ROBERT 'BOB' LEE JOHNSON
Mr. Bob Johnson, 69, of Port St. Joe, Fla., was called home by God on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, after fighting a long battle with cancer. Bob was a family man and leaves to mourn, his devoted and loving wife, Doris. He also leaves his children, Linda Cooper and husband David of Highland View, Lisa Given and husband Billy of White City, Marsha Bouzmann and husband Billy of Mexico Beach, Dwayne Johnson and wife, Daisy of Dothan, Ala., Bernice Holland and husband Larry of Santa Rosa Beach, J. Lee McCroan and husband David of Port St. Joe, Teresa Johnson of New Bern, N.C.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also he leaves a loving mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nina and Fred Thompson of Apalachicola; two brothers-in-law, George Thompson and wife Joyce of Grand Bay, Ala., and Harold Thompson of Dalkeith. Many niece, nephews, family members and friends will all miss Bob greatly. Bob raced cares in his younger days and then worked as a mechanic before hiring on as a construction worker on the first bridge to St. George Island. Thusly, he was hired by St. Joe Paper Company from which he retired in 1997. He climbed the ladder from working on the woodyard to Woodyard Superintendent to Maintenance Supervisor and then to Safety Supervisor from which he retired. A memorial service will be conducted today, Sept. 4, 2001, at 4 p.m. EDT in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating. Interment will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks you to make a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Johnson's.

C.T. 'PETE' KNOWLES
Mr. C.T. "Pete" Knowles, 76, of 1417 Missouri Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 2, 2001, at his home. Born in Valdosta, Ga., he moved here in 1993 from Inverness, Fla. He was a retired contractor and a member of the First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. His parents, Thomas Knowles Sr. and Elma Maggie Mathis; a sister, Lorene Carter; a daughter, Debra Johnson; and a son, Brian Keith Knowles, precede him in death. Mr. Knowles is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Mosley Knowles of Lynn Haven, Fla.; one son, C.T. "Pete" Knowles III and wife JoAnn of Destin, Fla.; grandchildren, Angel Upchurch of Crystal River, Fla., Lauren Ashley Knowles and Justin Caulie Knowles, both of Destin, Fla.; one sister, Onnie Tacher of Longwood, Fla.; two brothers, Conny Knowles and wife Flaura of Auburndale, Fla., and Lloyd R. Knowles and wife Glenda of Boone, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at 12:30 p.m. in the Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. STEPHEN A MINKEY
Stephen A. "Steve" Minkey, age 52 of Panama City, passed away Aug. 31, 2001 at Bay Medical Center. He was a native of Baltimore, Md., and had lived in Panama City for six years, moving here from Salisbury, Md. He was the Public Works Director at the City of Parker and was a member of the Florida League of Cities and the Public Works Associating. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the BPOE Lodge No. 1598. He was a former officer in the Salisbury, Md., BPOE lodge. He was an avid sports enthusiast and supporter of athletics in the area and was very active in community affairs. Steve was loved by everyone who met him, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He put his heart and soul into everything he did: He wanted to make a difference. He is survived by his wife Joanne Minkey of Panama City, Fla.; daughter Stacey A. Minkey of Panama City, Fla.; brother William Minkey Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; and several neices and nephews. Mr. Minkey was preceded in death by his son Danny Minkey; parents William Minkey Sr. and wife Evelyn; and brother, Andrew Minkey. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at St. Dominic Catholic Church with father Peter Zalewski officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Asked to serve as pallbearers are John L. Strickland, David Linger, Cecil Brunson, Fred Abitia, Willie Golden, Korey Bramlett, Dakota Ginn and DaWayne Maddux. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 4, 2001, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Contributions can be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society of St. Dominic Catholic Church.

Angels accompanied Annie J. Padgett, age 89 of Southport, to the arms of Our Lord, & Savior on Sunday, evening, Sept. 2, 2001. She passed away at her first street home with her children by her bedside. She was a native and lifelong resident of Southport, and was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Survivors include her children, Ethel L. Plotke of Bayou George, Dennis J. Barfield and wife Pat of Marianna, Margaret Butts of Altha, Fla., Terri Huggins, Buddy Barfield and wife Joyce, Ezella Creamer and husband Early, Eugene Barfield and wife Dolores, Tony Barfield and wife Lovie Dale, Essie Lee Barnes, Tommy Barfield and wife Brenda, Ephrom Barfield and wife Cynthia, Judy Horton and Bobby Ray Barfield, all of Southport; two sisters, Selma Brockman of Texas and Margie Hodges of Lynn Haven; three brothers, Marvin Lemieux of St. Joe, Fla., J.T. Lemieux of Illinois and Glen Lemieux of Tampa, Fla., 61 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Padgett was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Padgett and a son, Thomas Vernon Barfield. Funeral services will be held at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Darwin Glass, the Rev. Dennis Barfield and the Rev. Don Hodge officiating. Interment will follow at Lynn Haven Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Mrs. Padgett's sons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Sept. 4, 2001, from 6 until 8 p.m.
