Mr. Floyd Mitchell Kent Jr., 78, of Pensacola, Fla., died Friday, June 8, 2001, at West Florida Hospital. He was a native of Washington County Florida, but had been a longtime resident of Panama City, Fla. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Mrs. Viletta M. Kent; four daughters: Ms. Sandra M. Kent and Mrs. Shirley (Marion) Roberts of Pensacola, Fla., Mrs. Rita (Randy) Price, and Ms. Vileta E. Kent all of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, Mr. Melvin Floyd (Donna) Kent of Panama City, and Mr. Malandon Kent of Pensacola; six grandchildren: Mr. Tony Godwin, Mr. Keenan Roberts, and Miss Rhonda Roberts all of Pensacola, Mr. Preston J. Kent, Miss Shante' D. Kent and Miss Shanice L. Kent all of Panama City; five sisters: Mrs. Katherine Potter and Mrs. Luella (Walter H.) Battle of Panama City, Mrs. Mable Walker of Chipley, Mrs. Evelyn Williams of Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Ethel (George) Williams of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four brothers: Mr. Emmett Howard Kent, Mr. Merritt (Margaret) Kent, Mr. Matthew Kent and Mr. Leo Kent all of Chipley; one uncle, the Rev. Robert Bellamy of Panama City, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Floyd M. Kent Sr. and Mrs. Rosa Bellamy Kent; Ms. Sherry Ann Kent and Ms. Rolinda Marie Kent; one brother, Mr. Freddie Kent; and one sister, Mrs. Mattie Lee Carson. Funeral services for Mr. Kent will be held Saturday, June 16, at 1 p.m. at Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Chipley with Bishop Lonnie Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, June 15, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Battle Memorial Funeral Home. Public visitation for viewing will begin today at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. The remains will lie in state three hours prior to services at the church.

Mrs. Doris P. Parrish, 81, a resident of Glencove Nursing Pavilion, formally of 3909 W. 25th Court, Panama City, died Tuesday evening, June 12, 2001, in a local hospital. She was born in Dothan, Ala., and was a 40 year member of Springfield Community Church. Mrs. Parrish was an active ladies missionary with multiple talents. She was a devoted Christian woman to God, her husband, church, family and friends. Mrs. Parrish is survived by her husband, Capt. Leroy Parrish of Panama City; four children: Dianne Barnes and husband A.J. of Southport, Fla., Henry L. Parrish and wife Charlotte of Cedar Grove, Fla., Sharron Newhouse of St. Andrews, Fla., and David Michael Parrish and Linda of Fountain; four grandchildren: Kim Adams and husband David of Lynn Haven, Robert Parrish and wife Stephanie of Springfield, Michael Parrish and wife Tina of Bear Creek, Marcus Parrish and wife Marlene of Fountain; three great-grandchildren: Kenley Adams, Brandon Parrish and Destiny Parrish; one sister, Ethylene Hall of Columbus, Ga.; one brother, Woodrow Green and wife Gwen of Panama City Beach; one sister-in-law, Rosa Mae Payne of Columbus, Ga., and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved friends. Mr. Alton L. Tenney, age 74, of 134 Arlington Dr., Panama City, Fla., died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at his home. He had been a resident of the area for five years, coming here from Gainesville, Fla. Mr. Tenney served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Moose Lodge. Mr. Tenney enjoyed woodwork, carpentry, and gardening. Mrs. Estelle Arnold Jacobs, 88, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Friday, June 15, 2001, in a local hospital. Born in Houston County, Ala., she moved here in 1945. She was a retired employee of Bay District School System, working at Lynn Haven Elementary School as a food service worker. Mrs. Jacobs was a member of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven where she was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She was a also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the White Shrine and the Rebekkah Lodge. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Victor Arnold and Ray Jacobs. Mrs. Jacobs is survived by one son, Richard Arnold and wife Gena of Panama City; two daughters, Charlotte Dean and husband, James of Flintstone, Ga., and Shirley Barnes and husband, James of Lynn Haven; two brothers, Kermit Avery and wife, Doris and Lonie Avery and wife, Jonnie all of Panama City; five grandchildren, Becky Barnes, Chris Barnes, Brenda Phillips, Rene Cannon and Jimmy Dean; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany Phillips and Melissa Phillips. Von Lighthill 75, of Panama City,Fla., died in a local hospital on May 31, 2001, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. He served his country in the Navy in World War II as a radio man.Von was an avid amateur radio operator for over 50 years. After a honorable discharge, he was a private pilot. In Mississippi, he built and operated his own radio station. He came to Bay County and was an engineer while Channel 13 was being constructed. He had many talents one of which was woodworking. Willie Ruth Powell Riley, 84, of Panama City, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in a local hospital. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1941, moving here from Campbellton, Fla. She attended the Martha Berry College in Rome, Ga. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. Riley. She is survived a brother, Lyndon Powell, of Panama City; three sisters, Annette Powell Adams of Blountstown, Frances Powell of Panama City, Sue Powell Wooten of Blackshear, Ga.; brother-in-law, Jack Riley and his wife, Mamie of Panama City, sister-in-law, Dorothy Riley of Panama City, and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dora Knight Smith, age 102, of Panama City, passed away Friday at a local nursing facility. She was a native and longtime resident of Hamlet, N.C., and had lived in Panama City since 1991. She was a homemaker and member of First United Pentecostal Church and was a great cook, known to everyone as "The Cake Lady" for her baking skills. She always had a positive personality, and left her children a great spiritual heritage. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include two daughters, Mildred S. Ford of Callaway and Barbara S. Arms and husband, Danny of Callaway; two grandsons, Gene Ford and wife, Pris of Panama City Beach and Donald R.
