Funeral service for a beautiful young woman, Jaime Mikell, blessfully born March 27, 1981, who passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007, as the result of an automobile accident, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at First Baptist Church in DeLand. Committal will follow at DeLand Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lankford Funeral Home, DeLand.
With her short time on this earth, Jaime touched the hearts of many, and her presence will be greatly missed. She made her public profession of faith at Central Baptist Church at an early age. She was the office administrator for Olson Insurance and Financial Services for the last 10 years.
She is survived by a very proud and loving family: parents, James Mason and Melody Mikell, DeLand; two brothers, Jason and Stephanie Mikell, Eustis and Mason Mikell, DeLand; paternal grandparents, Jeannie and Terry Olson, Umatilla; maternal grandmother, Marjorie Lester, Paisley; nephews, Braxton and Tucker Mikell, Eustis; aunts and uncles, Bruce and Laurie Mikell, Crystal River, Randy and Cindy Mikell, Umatilla, Paula Lester, Paisley, Darrell Lester, Homosassa and David and Patty Lester, Crystal River; stepuncles and aunts, Eric and Tammy Olson, Umatilla, Terry and Denise Olson, Leesburg, and Terri Lee Hanson; many cousins and the special man who made her very happy and with whom she wanted to spend the rest of her life, Casey Vallance, Orange City.
Dorothy Chase

Funeral service for Dorothy Chase, 79, DeLand, who died November 8, 2007, at Ridgecrest Manor, DeLand, will be 4 p.m., Saturday, November 10 at Lankford Funeral Home, 220 E. New York Ave., DeLand. Calling hours are Saturday from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Chase was born in New York City, NY and moved to this area in 2005 from Carson, CA. She was a reservationist with United Airlines.
Survivors include her two sons, Alan Chase, Carson, CA and Larry Chase, West Palm Beach, FL; daughter, Maxine Sears, California; two brothers, William Ford, DeLand, James Ford, Deltona; sister, Lorrain Mann, Hampton, VA; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Chase, and brother, Leslie Ford.

Yvonne K. Pryor
April 14, 1931 - November 5, 2007
Yvonne K. Pryor passed away peacefully November 5, 2007. She moved to DeLand in 1977 and retired from Sherwood Medical after many years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and baking.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Jody Pryor, Lake Helen; two daughters, Ila Hollis, Illinois and Kim Pryor, Key West; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

David T. Berg
April 7, 1930 - November 4, 2007
Memorial service for David T. Berg, son of George and Marie T. Berg, will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007, at Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand.
Mr. Berg was born in 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 until 1953 and then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh. He came to Florida in 1973 with wife, Claire, and four children, Eric, Beth, Amy and Karl.
He taught accounting and business at DBCC and established a small business and accounting firm, which served West Volusia for over 30 years. He was an enthusiastic duplicate bridge player, becoming a Silver Life Master. Active in the DeLand Bridge Club, he was a former president and treasurer of that organization.
In later years he and wife, Lynn, traveled to play bridge tournaments and also to direct and teach bridge on cruise ships. He was a lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed camping and the beach.
Besides Lynn, he is survived by sisters, Rosemary Charles and Nancy Lewis; and brothers, George and Bernie Berg; as well as his children, Eric (wife, Monica, and daughters, Savannah and Shilo), Beth (husband, Benji Tomassetti, son, Anthony, and daughter, Chiara), Amy (husband, Kenny Whitmarsh, sons, Ryland and Blake David), and Karl (wife, Soraya).
David loved "delightful DeLand" and, in his memory and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations suggested to the funds for Votran benches located near Florida Hospital DeLand through Mainstreet Community Bank.
Richard Lewis Cowdrey
October 30, 1934 - November 3, 2007
Memorial service for Richard Lewis Cowdrey, 73, DeLand,who died Saturday., November 3, 2007, at Alliance Center for Health Care, DeLand, will be 2 p.m. Saturday., November 10, at Kingdom Hall, East DeLand Congregation, Jehovah's Witnesses, DeLand.
Mr. Cowdrey was born in 1970 in Painesville, Ohio, and moved here from Ohio. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers and was an elder at East DeLand Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. He enjoyed going to flea markets. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at Ridgecrest Manor, DeLand.
He is survived by his wife, Isabell Cowdrey of DeLand and brother, Donald Cowdrey of Madison, Ohio.
Ruth V. Steen
February 17, 1917 - October 28, 2007
Memorial service for Ruth V. Steen, 90, who died peacefully at home October 28, 2007, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, November 3, at 1st United Methodist Church, 115 E. Howry Ave., DeLand. Mrs.
Steen was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1917. She received nurse's training at Presbyterian Hospital and served in the Army as a nurse in the South Pacific during World War II. She met and married her former husband, the late Bert Steen, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, immediately after the war. Ruth raised her four children throughout the world, as an Air Force wife, before settling in Melbourne in 1961. She moved to DeLand in 1995, after 20 years in Denver, CO.
She was devoted to the Methodist Church throughout her life, wherever she lived. She was a member of "Grandmothers for Peace" and traveled to the Soviet Union once and to the Middle East/Holy Land four times, with the "Grandmothers" and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of The Rocky Mountain Hiking Club of Denver and secretary of The Colorado Calligrapher's Guild. She was arrested three times in Nevada and Colorado for her opposition to nuclear proliferation.
In DeLand she shared her talents as a calligrapher with the DeLand Library, Florida Lutheran Retirement Center, First United Methodist Church, and her many friends. She was a gentle, loving soul who truly lived her life for others.
She is survived by her children, Brad Steen of El Rito, NM., Mac and Kathy Steen of DeLand, Janet and Dave Rothbard of Denver and Don and Robin Steen of Orlando and six grandchildren, Rusty, Katie, Eric, Carin, Kelli Brown Cogert and Rebecca Rothbard.

William "Bill" Eugene Duff
April 14, 1936 - October 26, 2007
Memorial service for William "Bill" Eugene Duff will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2007, at Trinity United Methodist Church at with the Rev. Michael Fronk officiating. Bill came to the area from Mims in 1970 and worked as a member of The Conrad Company. They merged with The Page Agency in 1978 where he was still working as president and certified insurance counselor. He was a charter member and past president of DeLand Breakfast Rotary and charter member of Rotary Club of Downtown DeLand. He was also a member of Chamber of Commerce, Committee of 100, DeLand Charter Review Commission, DeLand Economic Development Committee and served as a board member for Florida Hospital DeLand.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, M. Kay Duff, DeLand; sons, Ron Duff, Yorba Linda, CA and Allen Duff, Woodstock, VA; daughters, Jennie Kulzer and Nikki Wichlei, both of Ormond Beach; brother, Gene Duff, Belleglade; sister, Deann Johnson, Fernandina Beach and four grandchildren.

Kathryn E. Shaffner

Funeral service for Kathryn E. Shaffner, 72, West Sidney Drive, Lake Helen, who died Saturday., October 20, 2007, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, at Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand with Chaplain Paul Farabee officiating. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery
in DeLand. Calling hours are today (Tuesday) from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shaffner was born in Asheville, NC and moved to the area in 1983 from Cherry Grove, Ohio. She was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her sons, James D. Severt and Kenneth Foster, and daughter, Rebecca Jansen. Survivors include sons, Michael (Michelle) Shaffner, Edgewater and Richard Shaffner, Lake Helen; daughter, Kathryn Shaffner, Lake Helen; brothers, Raymond Severt and Roy Severt, both ofColumbus, Ohio, sisters, Arlene Underwood, Mount Vernon, Texas , Bertha Carter, Texas , and Mary Andrews, Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua Shaffner, Jennifer Shaffner, Ashlee Hodson, James D. Kathleen I. McBride

Memorial service for Kathleen I. McBride, 59, Mercers Fernery Road, DeLand, who died Mon., October 15, 2007, at home, will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand with the Rev. Jim Patterson officiating.
Mrs. McBride was born in Marlboro, Mass., and moved from there to this area in 1963.
Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Francis McBride; sons, Troy McBride of Clinton, NJ and Travis and Todd McBride, both of DeLand; daughter, Tanya Chitwood of DeLand; brother, Michael Worrall of Idaho; sister, Sue Ellen Clary of Union Grove, AL and three grandchildren.

Nancy H. Nolan
May 23, 1948 - October 13, 2007
Memorial service for Nancy H. Nolan, 59, who passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007, will be held in Port Jervis, NY. She moved to DeLand from Kerhonkson, NY in 2002. While in Kerhonkson, she worked as a senior stenographer for the Rondout Valley Central School District for 25 years, earning a Secretarial Award of Excellence from the NYS Athletic Administrators Association. She was an elected councilwoman for the Town of Rochester, NY, from 1986 until 1990. In 2002 she moved to DeLand and began working as an office specialist for Spruce Creek High School. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her other interests included sewing, crafts, boating, golf and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Thomas K. Nolan Jr.; and their two sons, Thomas and his wife, Lucinda, Loch Sheldrake, NY and their children, Gabriela and John and Phillip and his wife, Billie Sue, Freeville, NY and their children, Britany Weaver and Collin; her father, Carl Highers of DeLand; her mother, Shirley Eck of New Hartford, NY; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth P. Nolan of Port Jervis, NY; four siblings, Beverly Barenz, Carl Highers, Sally Campbell and Debbie Grimes and several nieces and nephews.

of Port Jervis, The Dutch Reformed Church of Port Jervis or to the American Heart Association.
