Beatrice "Bea" Cowgill, 81, of 607 Bunkers Cove Road, Panama City, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Atlanta, Ga. where she had been residing for the past 41/2 years. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Sorority. She was also a graduate of Howard College in Birmingham, Ala. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, St. Andrew Bay Yacht Club, Panama City Woman's Club, and the Panama City Garden Club. She was a retired owner and operator of the Mara Vista Motel in Panama City Beach. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bunny Cowgill. She is survived by a son, George Cowgill III and his wife Mary Anne; grandson, George Cowgill IV; three stepgrandchildren, Rick Flack, Michele Williams, all of Atlanta, Ga., Laura Hendrix of Savannah, Ga.; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Si Mathison officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the First United Methodist Church in memory of Bea Cowgill.

Mr. Norman Fowke, age 75, of 319 N. Berthe Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, March 19, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for six years, coming here from Jacksonville, Fla. Mr. Fowke attended Hiland Park Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed painting, fishing, sailing and the outdoors. Mr. Fowke is survived by his wife, Jane Fowke of Panama City; three daughters, Sherry Fowke, Donna Brown and her husband Alan, and Trudy Keith and her husband Donald, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; four stepchildren, Jimmy Antrobus and his wife Marlyn of Hobucken, N.C., Paul Antrobus and his wife Tracie of Cape May, N.J., Wendy Stone and Sally Harper and her husband Michael, all of Panama City; stepmother, Audra Fowke of Atlanta, Ga.; an aunt, Edith Skinner of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harold Taunton and the Rev. Fred Melvin officiating. Vernon "Mike" Franklin Hunt, 80, of Panama City, Fla. passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Arizona and moved here 36 years ago. He was a retired pilot in the U.S. Air Force and served in World War II. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Linda Hunt of Panama City; daughter, Patricia Moore and son-in-law, Robert Moore of Ohio; grandchildren, Donna Moyer of Ohio, Michael Thane of Ohio; stepdaughter, Terry McArdle and son-in-law, Danny McArdle of Panama City; grandchildren, Kasey, Holly and Dalton of Panama City. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 21, at 11 a.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron L'Huiller officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Full military honors will be accorded at graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 5 to 7 p.m.

Dorothy A. Mettille, age 86, of Dubuque, Iowa, died Sunday, March 18, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Church of the Nativity in Dubuque, Iowa. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery
in Dubuque. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Egelfhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home in Dubuque. Rosary will be said at 5 p.m. She was married to Carlton Mettille on Feb. 4, 1937, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was a lifelong member of Nativity Church and member of 3rd Order of St. Dominic. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Carlton Mettille. She is survived by two daughters, Ruth (James) McGrath of Davenport, Iowa, Dorothy (Dennis) Hageman of DeWitt, Iowa; two sons, Paul (Harriette) Mettille of Panama City, Ambrose (Pat) Mettille of New Hope, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Violet Gremmell of St. Louis, Mo. She was also preceded by two grandchildren; Kevin and Robin. Memorials to a Dorothy Mettille Memorial Fund has been established.

Charles Leroy Smith, age 67, of Tallahassee, died Monday, March 19, 2001, in Tallahassee. A private service will be held at a later date. A native of Tallahassee, he had lived in the area all of his life. Mr. Smith fought in the Navy during the Korean War and was a self-employed businessman in retail jewelry. Survivors include three sons, Chucky Smith, George Smith and Tommy Smith, all of Panama City; a daughter, Linda Bodiford of Panama City; one brother, Jerry Smith of Central Florida; two sisters, Peggy Messer and Betty Pearce of Tallahassee; and five grandchildren.

Bro. Frank Alfred Stout II, age 19, of 3907 Ural St., Panama City Beach, Fla., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident. He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses at the beach congregation. He was a graduate of Bay High School and worked for Gaddie Marine Co. Bro. Stout is survived by his parents, Frank and Trudi Stout of Panama City Beach; three sisters, Heather Recor and her husband Randy, Sheran Stout and Shannon Stout, all of Panama City Beach; grandparents, Russell K. Mr. Bobbie Jean Tate, 57, of Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at his home. He was employed with Bellsouth for 34 years. His father and mother, a sister, Carolyn Holder and a brother, Eddie "Bo" Tate, precede him in death. Mr. Tate is survived by a devoted wife, Barbara J. Mr. Conley Glenn White Jr., age 81, of 4306 Greenleaf Circle, Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1947, coming here from Charleston, W.Va. Mr. White was the owner/operator of Refrigeration and Power Specialties from 1959 until the early 1970's. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 71/2 years and during World War II, served in five major battles in the Pacific. Mr. White was Nazarene by faith and a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived by four daughters, Glenna Helms of Orlando, Fla., Shirley Anne Shirley and her husband Wayne of Decatur, Ala., Norma McClain and her husband Henry III of Panama City and Lois Smith and her husband Brad of Wilmington, N.C.; a brother, Ralph White and his wife Kathleen of Panama City; the mother of his four daughters, Elsie Faber of Panama City; special friend, Lucille Strickland of Overstreet, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Pastors Joe Purl and Kim Purl officiating.
