Mrs. Emma Scurlock, age 94, of 3928 Scurlock Lane, Southport, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 12, 2001, at her home. She had been a resident of the area for 75 years, coming here from Jackson County, Fla. Mrs. Scurlock was a homemaker and a member of Southport Victory Holiness Church. She is survived by three daughters, Lillian Catherine Carpenter and her husband Albert A., Shirley Ann Williams and her husband Charles, and Emma Louise Bickford and her husband Joe, all of Southport; three sons, Eulis F. Scurlock, Milton Lee Scurlock and his wife Maria, and Thomas Farrell Scurlock and his wife Frances, all of Southport; 10 grandchildren, Tommy Carpenter, James Scurlock, Sandra Hammock, Cathy Kelley, Joan LeGros, Connie Teplicek, Marilyn Scurlock, Steven Scurlock, Allison Saucier and Brian Bickford; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annie Laura Broom of Graceville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Mr. Thomas Franklin Scurlock. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Carroll, the Rev. Luke Miller and the Rev. Steven Scurlock officiating. Interment will follow at Southport Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Tommy Carpenter, James Scurlock, Steven Scurlock, Brian Bickford, Brad Carpenter and Paul Hammock. Mrs. Nancy Lucille Johnson, age 91, of 726 Mulberry Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area since 1942, coming here from Dothan, Ala., and was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City. Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Betty Tripp and her husband Bill of Panama City; six sons, Robert Johnson and his wife Brunell of Lynn Haven, James Johnson of Panama City, Odell Johnson and his wife Mary, Larry Johnson of Springfield, Fla., Alex Johnson and his wife Jeanette of Panama City, and Joe Johnson and his wife Alice of Lynn Haven, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Rufus Givens of Dothan, Ala. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Johnson; and a son, Odean Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 16, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. VIRGIL WILLIAM MOON SR.
Mr. Virgil William Moon Sr., 89, of 1103 Florence St., Parker, Fla., died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at his home. Born in Kemper County, Miss., he moved here in 1942 from Perry, Fla. He was an aircraft engine mechanic and retired from the Dept. of the Air Force as a civil service employee. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Parker and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Mason for 50 years and was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge No. 122 in Parker. His wife of 63 years, Grace Moon, precedes him in death. Mr. Moon is survived by four sons, Henry Reid Moon and wife Suzanne of Tallahassee, Virgil W. Moon Jr. of DeFuniak Springs, Brooks Timothy Moon and wife Patricia of Atlanta and David Bentley Moon of Mary Esther, Fla.; one sister, Helen Decker of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 16, at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Parker with the Rev. Craig Hartzog and the Rev. Donnie Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Parker Cemetery.

HIRAM VICTOR PATTERSON, JR.
Hiram Victor "Pat" Patterson, a longtime resident of Pensacola, Fla., died Jan. 24, 2001, in a car accident near Santa Rosa Beach in Walton County. He was 71 years old. Pat was born in Andalusia, Ala., on Oct. 28, 1929, the oldest of four children. He moved to Panama City, Fla., as a youth, attended Bay County High School, then entered the U.S. Air Force as a Communications Electronics Radar Specialist during the Korean conflict. Pat's service included tours in Okinawa, Japan, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., and Dobbins Air Force Base, Ga., returning to Panama City as a government civil servant at Tyndall Air Force Base. Pat was a key member of NASA's Apollo/Saturn V space team that trained, launched, and returned all American astronauts for lunar missions. His space program work included jobs in Huntsville, Ala. at the Redstone Arsenal, the Kennedy Space Center, Fla., and the Goddard Space Flight Center, Md. He moved to Pensacola in 1969 to assume a position as works engineering maintenance supervisor with Westinghouse, retiring in 1986. He continued working with Teledyne, Mobile until full retirement in 1995. Pat fulfilled his computer science studies at Gulf Coast College, Panama City, Brevard College, Titusville, and Pensacola Junior College. Pat is survived by his wife Tillie; daughter, Patte of Pensacola; grandson, Lyn Potter of Butner, N.C.; granddaughter, Jessica and husband Rich Julianno, Lewisville, Texas; sister-in-law, Ann Allen of Fort Walton Beach; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends around the country. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m., First Pentacostal Church, 6500 North W Street, Pensacola. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Pat's memory to First Pentacostal Church, Pensacola. Proceeds will purchase a door and memorial plaque for the teenage boy's Sunday School classroom where Pat taught for over 15 years.

Mrs. Monica Lamonica, age 49, of Parker, Fla., passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001, at her home surrounded by family and friends. She was a lifelong resident of Panama City and touched the lives of many as a nurse in the local community for the past thirteen years. She enjoyed life; she especially loved the outdoors and fishing for pompano. Monica is survived by her husband, Andrew Lamonica; a daughter, Kellie Welch; two sons, Wes and Jeremy Welch; a daughter-in-law, Stormy; a grandson, Cody; her mother and stepfather, Marion and Hilton Arnold; a brother, Kenny Mashek; as well as many other relatives and friends. Monica's family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to her special family at the Northwest Florida Surgical Center, and to Dr. Michael McCormick, Dr. Fernando Malamud, Dr. Robert Joseph, Dr. Charles Nichols, Dr. Stringer, the nursing staff at Bay Medical Center, and Hospice of Northwest Florida. Mr. Leslie V. Mosley, age 87, of Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, March 14, 2001. He had been a resident of the area for 27 years, coming here from Pennsylvania. Mr. Mosley was a very active member of Gulf Beach Presbyterian Church for many years. He was also an avid golfer. Mr. Mosley is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Mosley of Panama City Beach; daughters, Betty Cogen of Marlton, N.J., and Sheila Chenoweth of Tulsa, Okla.; sons, Jerry Mosley of Naples, Fla., and Erwin Mosley of Jackson, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
