Mrs. Daisy Mae Clearwater, 94, of 526 Glory Road, Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at a local nursing facility. She had been a resident of the area since 1993, coming here from Lodi, Calif., and was Methodist by faith. Mrs. Clearwater is survived by a daughter, Janet Ward and her husband Fred of Panama City; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren, all living in New York, California, Florida and Wyoming. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ray Clearwater, dear daughter Valerie Kulak and a great-grandson Brendan Gavin. Mr. Gary Lamar Campbell, 56, of 2609 N. Cedar Lane, Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his home. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Mr. Campbell was a teacher for 30 years, 28 of those years at Rutherford High School. He was a good husband, father, had a love for bowling and was a board member and vice-president of the Panama City Bowling Association for many years. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife Tommie Sue Campbell of Panama City; two sons, Jeremy Chase Campbell and Joseph Phillip Campbell, both of Panama City; his mother, Myrtle Campbell of Panama City; two sisters, Charlotte Kent of Panama City, and Marcia Drew of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Fred Campbell of Panama City, and Joe Campbell of Hilliard, Fla.; and his mother-in-law, Jo Marshall of Panama City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Lane and the Rev. Adolph Bedsole officiating. Myrlene Cook Sexton, 66, of 3592 Hwy. 79, Vernon, Fla., passed away March 7, 2001, at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley, Fla. She is survived by her husband, Leon B. Sexton of Vernon; daughter, Libby Whitaker of Vernon; Brothers Archie Cook and Henry Cook, both of Vernon, and Jim Cook of Bradenton, Fla.; grandchildren, Ashley Hickman, Allison Hickman and Tessa Whitaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, David J. and Tina Cook; son, Davie Whitaker; brothers, Allen Cook and Theron Cook; and sister, Thelma Jones. GRACE IVES DAFFIN
Grace Ives Daffin, born Sept. 30, 1915, in Itapetiniga, Estado de Sao Paulo, Brazil, died at Wesminster Oaks, Tallahassee, Fla., on March 2, 2001. She was the daughter of the Rev. Robert Dale Daffin Jr. and his wife Roberta Hall Daffin, Presbyterian missionaries to Brazil. She received her early education in Brazil and, when the family returned to this country in 1929 due to the illness of her father, she attended high school in Ripley, Miss. Upon graduation she attended Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn., receiving a BA degree. She then attended Presbyterian Assembly Training School, Richmond, Va., receiving a Certificate of Proficiency in Religious Education. She served for a short time as director of youth activities at Wallace Memorial Presbyterian Church, Panama City, before deciding to study Library Science at Louisiana State University, receiving her degree in 1942. With the entry of the U.S. into World War II, there was an urgent need for language translators, especially in the Hispanic languages. Grace had retained her Portuguese language skills from her early years in Brazil, so she volunteered and was assigned by the Bureau of Censors to a post in Miami. With the conclusion of the war the Miami-Dade County Public Library, where she had "moonlighted" during the war, employed her. She remained there until 1981, retiring as a senior librarian. Grace is predeceased by her parents, one sister, Mrs. Carrie Daffin Daugherty, also a Presbyterian missionary to Brazil along with her husband, the Rev. Milton L. Daugherty, and two brothers, Dr. Charles Hall Daffin and the Rev. Robert Dale Daffin III. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Waltman of Hattiesburg, Miss., and one brother, Dr. Sidney E. Daffin of Panama City. Graveside services will be Saturday, March 10, at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery

Mrs. Lucy Gregory, 65, of Callaway, Fla., died in her home March 6, 2001, after a short illness. She had been a resident of the area since 1984, coming here from Wiesbaden, Germany. She was born June 17, 1935, in Moechenhof, Kassel, Germany, and was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mathilde Rommeis of Kassel. Mrs. Gregory is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Francis; a son, William and his wife Kathleen of Bonaire, Ga., daughters, Linda of Ringgold, Ga., and Patricia of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister and brother-in-law, Irmgard and Horst Ludloff of Vellmar, Germany; three grandchildren: Laura, Michael and Steven of Bonaire; many cousins, nieces and nephews in Germany; close and personal friends Rodney and Dimple Winningham of Callaway; and beloved dog Liebchen. She was an active supporter of many charitable activities associated with the U.S. Air Force through out her husband's military service, an avid gardener and a close friend and supporter to many. She was honored by the U.S. Amy and U.S. Air Force for her support of military families in Wiesbaden, Germany, and by her advisory role with the senior Air Force and Army commanders and the political leaders in Wiesbaden and surrounding German communities. She was an organ donor. The family has scheduled a memorial service for 4 p.m. today, March 9, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Buddy Walker officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation with burial at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the staff of Bay Medical Center Cancer Center, Dr. Fernando Malamud and his staff, members of the Germany American Club of Bay County and her close friends and neighbors. Dr. Richard E. Morley, 85, of 401 S. Bonita Ave. in Panama City was called home to the Lord, Thursday morning, March 8, 2001. He was president of Gulf Coast Community College from 1960 to 1976, and after retirement served interim presidencies at Key West, Avon Park, and Chipola Community Colleges. He was an active member of many service organizations including the Panama City Rotary Club where he was a past president and Paul Harris recipient. He was a 33rd Degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rites Masonic Center, Shaddai Temple and the Acme Blue Lodge. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City where he taught Sunday school. He was a beloved teacher, counselor and friend. Dr. Morley is survived by his wife, Ellenor Rooks Morley, one daughter, Donna Morley Kemp of Panama City, two grandsons, James A. Kemp IV of Arlington, TX, and Richard M. Kemp of Sunny Isles Beach, FL, a sister-in-law, Pat G. Morley Morris of Panama City; nephews, James R. Morley of Huntsville, TX and Robert R. Morley of Tallahassee, FL. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Panama City with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Mr. Joseph Rogers, 87, of 1508 East 9th Ct., passed away Monday, March 5, 2001, at his residence. He was born in Cairo, Ga. He was a resident of Panama City for more than 60 years. He was a carpenter in his early years. However, after moving to this area, he became a dedicated public servant, transporting many for years to the beach for work. Later in his life, he joined St. John Baptist Church. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie Rogers and son, Jack Rogers. He leaves to mourn his passing two daughters, Clematea Rogers, Gary and Jo Ann Rogers, both of Panama City; five sons, Columbus and wife Bo Rogers of Panama City, Willie and wife Dorothy Rogers and Robert Rogers of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Joseph Rogers Jr. of New Orleans, and Arthur Leon and wife Sheila Rogers of New Jersey; children raised by Joseph, Tony Andrews, Walter and wife Gloria Andrews of Germany; three sisters, Thelma Wade McGriff of Hollywood, Fla., Dorothy McGriff Riley and Sara Barrett of Amarceles, Fla.; three brothers, Boise Lee McGriff of Miami, Fla., Joe Lewis McGriff of Orlando, Clayton and wife Agnes Rogers of Panama City; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy McGriff of Cairo and Flora Holmes of Panama City; nineteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Robert H. Stephens, 79, of Panama City, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in a local healthcare facility. He was a lifelong resident of Panama City and a member of the St. Andrews Baptist Church. Mr. Stephens was an accounting clerk with the U.S. government at Tyndall Air Force Base for 28 years. He was a veteran of WWII while serving in the Army Air Corps in Europe. Mr. Stephens was a member of the VFW and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Nora Stephens. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane M. Stephens of Panama City; two daughters, Mary Ann Baker and husband, Steve of Milton, Fla., and Joyce D. Raymond Dwight Barber, 70, of Chipley, Fla., passed from this life on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his residence. He had been a resident of Chipley for the past 52 years coming from Enterprise, Ala. He was of the Assembly of God faith and a member of the New Life Fellowship Assembly of God in Chipley. He was also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association. Mr. Charles Edward Brown, 81, of 4716 6th St., Parker, Fla., went to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 8, 2001, from his home. He was a lifelong resident of Bay County, for many years was a deacon at First Assembly of God in Millville and later a devoted member of Life and Praise Assembly of God. He lived his life trusting and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God. He was an inspiration to his family who will miss him yet find joy and comfort knowing he is with his true Father.
