Quinton Long
Quinton Long, 79, of Bascom, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Long was a native and longtime resident of Bascom. He retired after more than 20 years from U.S. Air Force as an Engineer, serving in Japan, Okinawa, Germany, Philippines. His tenure began near the end of World War II. Quinton was employed at Bryan's General Merchandise in Bascom for a number of years. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bascom. Quinton was a talented Bass singer who loved Southern gospel music.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Carwill D. Long.
Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Strickbine of Lake Worth; Blondell Long of Bascom, and Kathryne Bartolovich of Bascom; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews. The graveside funeral service will be at 3 p.m., today, Oct. 10, at Bascom Baptist Cemetery
in Bascom, with the Rev. Greg Roberts officiating. James & Sikes Funeral Home - Maddox Chapel will direct.
The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Maddox Chapel.
Bruce Thompson
Bruce Thompson, 88, of Marianna passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 in the Courtyard Rehabilitation Nursing Center. He was a life long resident of Jackson County and was a retired farmer and enjoyed raising black angus cattle. Mr. Thompson was Baptist by faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Levy M. and Mentie Thompson and his brother and sister J. R. Thompson and Viola Morris.
He is survived by one sister, Grace Sapp of Pensacola, four nephews; Ronald Thompson of Marianna, David Thompson of Kynesville, Larry Morris of Alford and Wayne Morris of Green Cove Springs; two nieces, Carolyn Tyson of Williamsburg, Va., and Beverly Everitt of Virginia Beach, Va.; five great nephews, Mile Thompson of Marianna, Paul Thompson of Tallahassee, Scott Thompson of Kynesville, Andrew Everitt of Virginia Beach, Va., and John Morris of Jacksonville, six great nieces; Amy Thompson of Marianna, Nancy Lipford of Kynesville, Christy Morris of Alford, Allison Murphy of Norfolk Va., Megan Tyson of Miami, Anna Everitt of Evansville, Ind. and one sister-in-law, Lorene Thompson of Marianna.
Funeral services for Mr. Thompson will be held of Friday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Alford Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening October 11, 2007, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home

Frances L. Griffin
Ms. Frances L. Griffin, 65, of 5369 15th St. in Malone entered into eternal rest on Wed., Oct. 3, 2007, in Jackson Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Jackson County, she was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Snowhill AME Church in Malone, where she served as a church secretary and sang in the choir. She recently retired from Nifty Cleaners in Marianna after many years of service.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at noon at Snowhill AME Church with Rev. James Gibbs, Evangelist Kenneth Gibson, Rev. Will Daniels and Rev. George Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
Ms. Griffin leaves a lifetime of love and precious memories with one daughter, Sherneka Griffin of Malone; one son, Willie Crawford of Pansy Ala.; two sisters, Eather Smith of Malone, and Bessie Lee Moore of West Palm Beach; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a special niece, Sonya Smith of Malone; a special nephew, Roderick Laster of Marianna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
The Griffin family will receive friends at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Oct. 12, from 6-7 p.m.
Ms. Griffin will lie in repose on Saturday at Snowhill AME Church for one hour prior to the service at noon.
Jarvis Calvin Lovett
Jarvis Calvin Lovett of Leesburg departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007. He was a Methodist by faith, a member of Jerusalem AME Church, and attended Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Leesburg.
He was employed by Coleman Federal Correction Complex in Coleman.
Mr. Lovett leaves to cherish his precious memories: His wife, Deborah Peace Lovett of Leesburg; his parents, Edward and Stella Lovett of Marianna; four sons, Captain Nakeya Lovett (Janet) of Marianna, Sterling Lovett, Donovan Lovett, Deurrell Lovett, all of Orlando; one daughter, Delisha Lovett of Leesburg; six brothers, Eddie Dean Lovett of Tallahassee, Glenn Lovett of Marianna, Donnie Lovett of Mt. Dora, Tyrone Lovett of Leesburg, Michael Granberry of Boston, Ma., and Steve Adrian Merritt of Colorado Springs; three sisters, Carolyn Myles, Bessie Brown, both of Saulisbury, MD, Norma Lovett of Marianna; mother-in-law Bonnie Peace of Grand Island; two grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Cynthia M. Forward (Thomas) of Lutz, Stephanie Levins (Kenneth) of Velrico; one brother-in-law, Antonio Peace (Leslie) of Fair Oak, CA; a special aunt and caretaker, Mary Peace of Grand Island; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12, at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church with minister Isaiah Morgan, and Revs. Riley Henderson, Samuel Everett and Thomas Forward officiating.
Interment will be in the Orange Hill Cemetery
with Vann Funeral Home in charge of services.
Foy Lovett
Foy Lovett, affectionately called "Teen," 76, of Marianna, was called home on Oct. 4, 2007, in Jackson Hospital.
He was self-employed, and retired from A.B. Williams Co. He was a member of Jerusalem AME Church, where he served as a trustee, and a member in the Senior Choir.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. at Jerusalem AME Church with the Revs. Samuel Everett, Charles Flowers, David Rhone Sr., and Pastor Beryl Mihfield officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Vann Funeral Home in charge of services.
The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 12, from noon until time for the funeral.
Mr. Lovett will lie in repose at the church from noon until time of the funeral.
He leaves to cherish his memories: His wife, Annie-Myrtle Keel Lovett of Marianna; four daughters, Myrtice Lovett Bess (Elliot), Sonya Lovett, both of Marianna, Annie R. Davis of Tampa, and Teresa Faye McGowan (Robert) of Alexander, LA.; one sister, Ruby Keel of Marianna; four brothers, Edward Lovett (Stella), Ed Neal Holden, all of Marianna, Albert Lovett of Fairfield, CA., Donaldson Lovett (Flo) of Tampa; and 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Marie W. Sims
Marie White-Sims, 87, of Greenwood, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, in the Chipola Nursing Pavilion.
Marie was born and reared in Jackson County, and graduated from the Jackson County Public Schools. She retired from the food service department at Sunland Marianna.
She was an active member of the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna until she became ill in 2005. She served for many years as an usher. She loved her church, attended and served in many worship services. She was also a member of the Home Mission Society and the Heroines of Jericho Israel Court No. 74, and served in various positions in these organizations.
At age 85, she still enjoyed crossword puzzles, wheel-of-fortune, gardening, canning food, baking, yard work and hanging her lights at Christmas.
Marie grew up doing hard work, during hard times, and often told her children to be as independent as you can, because at the last say, self is the one to depend on.
She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel in 1986.
She leaves to cherish in loving memories four daughters, Florence Sims and Queen-Sims Baker of Greenwood, Lillian Harvey of Dunedin, and Cozene Waddell (Oscar) of Tallahassee; two sons, George P. Sims and Leo Sims of Greenwood; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Suzanna Bowers of Lakeland, Joanna White Godwin and Callie White Sims, who were raised as sisters, both of Greenwood; three sisters-in-law, Lettie C. White of Greenwood, Bertis Bryant of Lakeland, and Roberta Sims of Clearwater; three aunts, Ella Pittman (William), Ethel Hartsfield and Lila Gregory, all of Greenwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Isaac Williams, Dwight Cockerham, Clem Bell, Tim White and Walter McCalister officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery
with Vann Funeral Home directing.

Janice Lovell Calloway
Janice Lovell Calloway, 76, of Malone, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Malone.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Cecil Calloway.
Survivors include four children, Myra Messick and husband Dane of Lynn Haven, Danny Calloway and wife Jan of Marianna, Chuck Calloway and wife Angela of Albany, Ga., and Kim Calloway and wife Sharron of Malone; one brother, Harold Miller and wife Virginia of Lady Lake; seven grandchildren, Dana Thomas and husband George of Panama City, Morgan Calloway of Columbus, Ga., Shane Messick and wife Cheri of Panama City, Chris Calloway and wife Diana of Ackworth, Ga., Amanda Harkrider and husband Max of Marianna, and Aaron and Shelby Calloway of Malone; eight great-grandchildren, Austin and Avery Thomas of Panama City, Dalton and Piper Alexandria Messick of Panama City, Gavin, Sara Ann and Caden Calloway of Ackworth, Ga., and Lil' Max Harkrider of Marianna.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at the Friendship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary French and Dr. Harry Kinchen officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery, with James and Sikes Funeral Home - Maddox Chapel directing.

Heather Nicole Bohannon
Mrs. Heather Nicole Bohannon, age 34, of Sneads, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
Mrs. Bohannon was born on March 30, 1973, in Dothan, Ala. She had been a resident of Sneads for the past 30 years, moving there from Washington County.
She was a member of the Sneads Assembly of God where she was the missionette coordinator and also served as the district coordinator for Section 7 Assemblies of God.
Mrs. Bohannon was a gracious person always putting her family and friends first. She had always taken care of her loving husband and loved to shop for small children and others. When Heather did take time for herself, she loved to cross stitch. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
Mrs. Bohannon is survived by her husband, Mr. Kenneth Bohannon of Sneads; her father, Mr. Bob Young and wife Clara of Cypress; her mother, Mrs. Wanda Edenfield and husband Carlos of Grand Ridge; one brother, Mr. Jared Edenfield of Grand Ridge; one sister, Mrs. Charity Pippin of Grand Ridge; her grandmother, Mrs. Margie Call of Ocala; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her dearly.
Services for Mrs. Bohannon will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, at the Sneads Assembly of God, with Pastor Juno Douglas officiating. Interment will follow at Pope Cemetery

Rev. James M. Metts, Jr.
The Rev. James M. Metts, Jr., 76, of Bradenton, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007.
He was born July 13, 1931, in Water Valley, Miss., to the Rev. and Mrs. James M. Metts, Sr. He graduated from Benford High School in Duck Hill, Miss., received his B.S. from Mississippi College and his master's in theology from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and the U.S. Air Force. He was a Rotarian, was active in the Chamber of Commerce and had served as moderator of the Ministerial Associations. He was elected president of the Bradenton Kiwanis Club.
He ministered at churches in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, serving as pastor at the First Baptist Church in Marianna, the First Baptist Church of Bradenton, the Island Baptist Church, Anna Maria, and the Northwest Baptist Church in Bradenton. He was a gifted minister and storyteller.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha A.; son, Jed (Linda) Metts of Elkin, N.C.; daughter, Kathy Metts of Bradenton; sisters, Frances Dickerson of Tupelo, Miss., and Mary Evelyn Owen of Clarksdale, Miss.; grandchildren, Jay Martin, Joshua Martin, Jim-Ed Metts and Carly Metts. Visitation will be held today, Sept. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Avenue West. The service will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Bradenton, 1306 Manatee Avenue West, with the Rev. Sterling Forrester, the Rev. Jim Killoran and the Rev. Tom Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Ellenton.

Bessie Lou Hinson Fowler
Bessie Lou Hinson Fowler, 91, of Marianna, passed away on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, at the Courtyard Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Marianna. Mrs. Fowler was born on April 28, 1916, in Graceville, to Alex Bussey and Minnie Pearl (McGriff) Hinson. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chipley.
She was a member of Garden Club, Woman's Club, Eastern Star, Past President of United Methodist Women and her Sunday school class. She also taught a Sunday school class for children and was very active in the church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roland Charles Fowler; brothers, Wallace Evert Hinson, Alex Bryant Hinson, Edwin Bussy Hinson, and Charles Buford Hinson; sisters, Addie Laura Hinson Tubell, Annie Bell Hinson Taylor, Bertha Marie Hinson Moore, Johnnie McGriff Hinson Dennis and Pearl Adell (Tootsie) Hinson Manley. Survivors are two daughters, Jean Fowler Carlton of Orange Park, and Linda Fowler Cox and husband, Alan Henley Cox, of Marianna; four grandchildren, Jill Marie Carlton, Paul Christopher Carlton and wife Gemma of Virginia Beach, Va., Lt. William Charles Cox and wife Amy, New Burn, N.C., and Edwin Alan Cox, Dothan, Ala.; three great-grandchildren, Trinity Celeste Carlton, Bailey Garner and Megan Garner; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m., today, Sept. 13, in the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Pierce Moore and the Rev. Jerry May officiating. The family will receive friends following the service on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the First United Methodist Church in Chipley. "Honey" Pearlie Lee Garrett
Ms. "Honey" Pearlie Lee Garrett, 91, of 6007 Blue Springs Road in Marianna, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in the Courtyard Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was Baptist by faith and a member of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m., at the Second West Missionary Baptist Association Church, located at 4110 Herring Avenue, Marianna, with the Rev. Lucious Williams, Sr., the Rev. Dwight Cockerham, Sr., and the Rev. William Harvey officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill Church Cemetery
in Grand Ridge, with arrangements entrusted to the staff of Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
Ms. Honey leaves a lifetime of love and precious memories with two daughters, Carrie Godwin and Mary Lee Smith, both of Marianna; one son, Lynwood Garrett of Greenwood; one sister, Alberta Barksdale of Jacksonville; and a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Frank Bell, Sr.
Mr. Frank Bell, Sr., 83, of 6002 Hartsfield Road in Greenwood, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Memorial West Hospital in Pembroke Pines, following a lengthy illness. A native of Jackson County, he was of the Baptist faith, a former member of the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII, where she served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Monroe.
A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at 2 p.m., at the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Cockerham, Sr., the Rev. William Harvey and the Rev. Lucious Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors provided by the Sneads American Legion Post No. 241. Arrangements entrusted to the staff of Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.
