Mr. Eddie Lee (Buddy) Womble, age 75, of 3611 Transmitter Road in Panama City, died early Sunday morning, Jan. 14, 2001, in Bay Crest Nursing Center in Panama City. Mr. Womble was born in Calhoun County and had lived here most of his life. Buddy worked at several different jobs until his retirement and he was also a member of Travelers Rest Freewill Baptist Church in Clarksville, Fla. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, J.B. and Ruby Womble of Sink Creek Community near Alliance, Fla.; four sisters, Florida Halley of Panama City, Lurena Fowler of Blountstown, Viola Varti of Hillard, Fla., Vergie Sims of Malone, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. CST from Peavy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Nichols and the Rev. Kenneth Jackson officiating. Mrs. Lillie Bennett, age 85, departed this life Jan. 12, 2001, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. She is survived by her daughter, Everdean Williams; stepdaughter, Sally Jewel Hamilton; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Ledbetter of Pittsburgh, Pa., Lecie Flowers and Evelyn Murphy of Panama City; a sister-in-law; two aunts; a devoted niece, Mary Barker of Lynn Haven, Fla.; a devoted cousin, Dollie Douglas of Panama City, and a host of other relatives and friends. JOHN KENNISON
Mr. John Kennison, age 76, of 208 Allen Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1995, coming here from Carrollton, Ohio. Mr. Kennison served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was wounded in action in France. He worked for L.T.V. Steel in Canton, Ohio, for 31 years. Mr. Kennison enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise Kennison of Panama City; a daughter, Tina Bragg of Panama City; two sons, Victor Kennison of Carrollton, Ohio, and David L. Kennison of Callaway; sisters, Opal Capillo and her husband Jim of Mineral City, Ohio and Edith Sigee and her husband Dick of Dover, Ohio; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lee Kennison.

Mrs. Doris Kiley, 79, of Sunny Hills, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at her home. Born in Girard, Ohio, she moved her in 1971 from Cleveland, Ohio. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sunny Hills. She was a member of the Rosary Society, Red Cross, NCO Wives Club of Tyndall where she was past president and was employed by War Industries during World War II. Raymond Husak, her first husband, precedes her in death. Mrs. Kiley is survived by her husband, John Kiley of Sunny Hills; two sons, Allan Husak of Pennsylvania and Warren Husak of Panama City; one brother, Arthur Bud Walker and wife Shirley of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A funeral mass will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa's Catholic Church with Monsignor Frances officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. JOHN ALBERT NOWLIN
Capt. John Albert Nowlin, 67, of Callaway, Fla., died Tuesday morning, Jan 16, 2001, in Bay Medical Center. He was born in Bay County, Fla., on April 5, 1933, and lived here all his life. He worked in the commercial fishing industry from a very early age and was a captain for approximately 50 years. He served his country as a sergeant 1st class in the Korean Conflict obtaining two Bronze Stars, a Bronze Star Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal and one Medal of Honor. He was also a member of VFW Post No. 8205. His father, John Herman Nowlin and three brothers, Gerald Evans, Andy Nowlin and Hollis Nowlin, precede him in death. Capt. Nowlin is survived by his mother, Tommie Darling Nowlin of Panama City and two brothers, Howard Nowlin of Morgan City, La. and W.J. Evans of Crestview. He married Mavis Christian Long on May 29, 1953, and they have four children, Elizabeth Diane Nowlin of Callaway, Steve Anthony Nowlin of Panama City Beach, James Paul Nowlin and wife Darlene, Billie Jean Ard and husband Ricky, all of Panama City; grandchildren, Adam Clark, Becky Mobbs, James Paul Nowlin II, Samantha Miller, O'Sheena Nowlin and Brittney Nowlin; great-grandchildren, Kayla Nowlin, Michael Clark, Shawn Mobbs, Branden Mobbs and Karmyn Miller and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements will be conducted on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Broom and Dr. Larry Wade officiating. Mrs. Vera Mae Russell, age 80, of 1540 Nassau St., Southport, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at a local hospital. She had been a resident of the area since 1934, coming here from Geneva, Ala., which was her birthplace. Mrs. Russell was a devoted homemaker who loved to care for her family. She was a great cook and enjoyed sewing. Mrs. Russell is survived by her husband of 30 years, Preston "Bud" Russell of Southport; a son, Dan Neel and his wife Ann of Bayou George; two daughters, Bobbie Jean Camper and her husband Bobby of Tampa, and Nell Godwin and her husband Wayne of Chipley; two brothers, Lester Parrish and L.J. Alfred O. Shuler Jr., 42, of Apalachicola, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at his home in Apalachicola. A native and lifelong resident of Apalachicola, "Al" was a director and researcher for Dodd Title in Apalachicola. He was also a former shrimp boat owner and captain and was a member of The First Baptist Church in Apalachicola. Mr. Benjamin "Benji" Michael Hutchinson, age 23, of 4225 Ferris St., Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001. He was born in Panama City and was a lifelong resident of the area. Benji attended Merritt-Brown Middle School and A.D. Harris High School. He worked at Walker Vinyl Works and was a member of Brannonville Baptist Church. Benji loved to fish and was an avid drag racing fan and football fan. He is survived by his father, Michael "Rod" Hutchinson of Panama City; his mother, Cindy Hutchinson of Panama City; a brother, Homer Hutchinson of Panama City; a three-year-old son, Steven Michael Hutchinson of Panama City; maternal grandparents, Fran and Perry Adams of Panama City; and numerous aunts, uncle and friends.
