Frances Daffin Pilcher

Frances Daffin Pilcher, 98, of Marianna died Friday, September 21, 2007 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Pilcher was a former employee of Jackson Packing Company and a devoted jome health care worker.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Talley, Omer Chatwood and Frank Pilcher; her parents, W. R. Daffin Sr. and Nita "Big Mama" Hightower; five brothers J. B., Buster, Charlie, Joe, Hooks Daffin; five sisters, Marie McBride, Edna Luster, Annette Standland, Grace Bethea and Margaret Bass.

Survivors include three sons, Herbert Talley and wife Annie of Tallahassee, Charles Talley of Bascom and Gerald Chatwood and wife Grace of Marianna; one daughter, Mary Frances Hale of Auburn, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and her extended family, the residents and staff of Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Roland Rabon officiating, burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family expresses their sincere appreciation to Covenant Hospice of Marianna.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Maddox Chapel.

Clara Nell Provost

Clara Nell Provost, 71, of the Rocky Creek Community in Marianna died Saturday, September 22, 2007 in Dothan, Al. She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, and was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a member of Cypress Community Church.

Preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Dollie Mears Owens, she is survived by her daughter, Marian Gray, and a grand-daughter Amber Gray, both of Marianna. Also surviving are her brothers, David Owens of Bristol, James Ben Owens of Blountstown, Johnny Wayne Owens of Grand Ridge, and her sister, Margie Johnson of Chattahoochee. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; two special friends, Bertha Ray and Raymond Provost.

She also leaves behind her loving pets, two dogs, Dixie and Haley, and her cat, Precious.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at Cypress Community Church with Rev. Jerry Mears officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at Maddox Chapel.

Carlton Eugene "Gene" Greenwood

Mr. Carlton Eugene "Gene" Greenwood, 71 of Campbellton, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Campbellton with Revs. Gene Gainous and Luther Pumphrey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Sneads American Legion Post # 241, James & Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or those wishing can make memorials to the First Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 2405 Hwy. 2 Campbellton, FL 32426.

Mr. Gene was born in Coffee County, AL on January 17, 1936 to the late Louie and Cola Stanton Greenwood. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Gene retired from Colonial Baking Company following 23 years and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Campbellton.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Fay Greenwood of Campbellton; children, Michael Greenwood and wife Ann of Cottonwood, AL; Karen Harrison and husband Darrell of Marianna, FL; Scottie Greenwood and wife Shelly of Graceville; grandchildren, Samantha Greenwood, MiKayla Greenwood, Joshua Yon, Andrew Greenwood and many nieces and nephews.

Opal Virginia Cromartie

Opal Virginia Cromartie, 84, of Cypress, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2007 in her home. Mrs. Cromartie was born in Manatee County and had resided in Cypress for 8 years, moving there from Garland, Texas . She was a member of the Grand Ridge Baptist Church and had been very active in her church in Garland. She was a talented artist. Mrs. Cromartie is survived by two sons; Gregory W. Cromartie of Garland, Texas and Mark A. Cromartie of Fort Worth, Texas ; her brother Robert Earnest of Cottondale; her sister, Nell Rees of Cypress; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Earnest of Alexander City, Al, three grandchildren, Mathew, Laura and Johnathon Cromartie, four nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Cromartie; her parents Fred and Callie Earnest; and one brother.

A memorial service for Mrs. Cromartie will be held in Grand Ridge at a later date and will be announced by Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Garland, Texas .

Rebecca Westmoreland Hill

Rebecca Westmoreland Hill, 81, of Marianna passed away Friday, September 21, 2007 after a long illness.

Rebecca was born to Jesse and Minnie Westmoreland in Nacoochee, Ga. She was a member of Damascus Freewill Baptist Church for many years and was a member of the Adult Three Sunday School class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roderick Hill in 1999; her youngest daughter, Connie Bradford, in 2001; and her brother, James Pete Powers.

Survivors include one son, Patrick Hill, Sr. and wife, Theresa of Groveland; one daughter, Beverly Hatcher of Marianna; two brothers, J. D. Westmoreland and wife Hilda of Conyers, Ga., and Henry Westmoreland and wife, Dee of Lilburn, Ga.; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Services for Mrs. Hill will be held on Monday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m. in the Damascus Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Powell and Rev. Odis Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow in the Damascus Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, September 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the Damascus Freewill Baptist Church in c/o Richard Rehberg, 3534 Ontario Road, Marianna, Fl 32448 or to Emerald Coast Hospice, 4374 Lafayette Street, Marianna, Fl 32446.

John B. Cooke

Funeral services for Mr. John B. Cooke will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Mears officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Lucille B. Pittman

Mrs. Lucille B. Pittman, age 81, of Marianna, passed away, Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at Jackson County Hospital in Marianna. Mrs. Pittman was born on Oct. 8, 1925, in Gulf County, and had lived in Jackson County for most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Marianna. Mrs. Pittman was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Miller; and a grandson, Allan Miller.

Survivors include: Husband, Richard E. (Dick) Pittman of Marianna; two sons, Edward Pittman and his wife, Kay, of Blountstown, and Robert M. Pittman and his wife, June, of Boynton Beach; one daughter, Karen D. Lipford and husband, Roland, of Marianna; one brother, Arthur Henderson and his wife, Louise, of Marianna; one sister, Della Mae Exum of Marianna; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Marianna, with the Rev. Michael Petty officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 22, from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Marianna. All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown.

Charles "Chuck" Eugene Brown III

Charles "Chuck" Eugene Brown III, 51, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at 3:56 p.m. Husband of Jeanne Primeaux Brown of Houma, La. Son of Blanche Mobley Brown and the late Charles Eugene Brown, Jr. Brother of Beth Brown Stevens and husband, Nathan Stevens, of Houma, La. Brown is also survived by one niece, one great-niece and one great-nephew. Brown was a native of Marianna and a resident of Houma, La. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces in Germany, was an operations manager at Domino's Pizza, loved to fish and was well loved by his family and friends.

There will be a visitation on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., at Chauvin Funeral Home, Inc., 5899 Hwy 311, Houma, LA.

Roy Clifford Robbirds

Mr. Roy Clifford Robbirds, age 69, of the Cypress Community went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007. He was born March 1, 1938 in Jackson County, where he remained for his lifetime.

Going to church was a one of the many things he loved. He was a member of the Cypress Community Church where he served as a deacon; and also served on the board of the Cypress Cemetery Committee.

He was an avid fisherman and was a man who loved his family. Mr. Robbirds retired from the Farley Nuclear Plant after 20 years of service as a carpenter.

Mr. Robbirds is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Charles "Charlie" Clifford and Essie Louise Robbirds; and one brother, Mr. Charles Clyton Robbirds.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mrs. Laura Francine Robbirds of Cypress; two sons, Mr. Gregory Lee Robbirds of Cypress, and Mr. Charles Clifford Robbirds and wife, Beverly, of Shady Grove; a daughter, Mrs. Julie Kressman and husband, Karl, of Bascom; a brother, Mr. James Lewis "Woody" Robbirds and wife, Margaret, of Sneads; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Jean Adams and Danny Tolson of Grand Ridge, and Mrs. Mary Jan Lambert and husband, Ricky, of Muskegon, Mich.; and nine grandchildren, Deana Stephens and husband, Wesley, Logan Robbirds, Abbit Robbirds, Katie Robbirds, Colby Robbirds, Kade Kressman, Kaulder Kressman, Charli Robbirds and Clay Robbirds. Mr. Robbirds is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

A funeral service for Mr. Robbirds will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Cypress Community Church, with the Rev. Jerry Mears and the Rev. Robert Simmons officiating, and burial to follow at the Cypress Cemetery.

Family will receive friends today, Sept. 21, at the Cypress Community Church, starting at 3 p.m.

John Barry Cooke

Mr. John Barry Cooke, age 86, of Marianna, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was a lifelong resident of Jackson County and was a member of the Cypress Community Church. He was a former member of the Marianna Masonic Lodge and retired from the State of Florida in 1984.

Mr. Cooke is preceded in death by his parents, William W. Cooke and Carrie McCroan Cooke.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Mrs. Flora D. Cooke of Marianna; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Goodwin and husband, Horace, of Greenwood; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Ingram of Marianna, and Mrs. Adna Wimberly of Marianna; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Cooke will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2007 at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Mears officiating with interment to follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Family will receive friends Saturday, Sept. 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

James "Harold" Douglas

Funeral services for James "Harold" Douglas will be conducted at 10 a.m., today, Sept. 20, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow Friday, Sept. 21, in Morriston.

Alice Hazel Haddock

Alice Hazel Haddock, 83, of Marianna, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Jackson Hospital.

A native of Henderson, N.C., Mrs. Haddock had resided in Jackson County for the past 60 years and was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Houston Haddock.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Langston and husband Wayne of Tallahassee, and Cheryl Haddock of Alpharetta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert Finch and wife Delores of Texas , and Charles Finch and wife Leigh of Henderson, N.C.; four grandchildren, Donnie Langston, Michelle Jeziorski, Michael Langston and Todd Granoff; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5, at Maddox Chapel, with Fr. Norman Bray officiating; burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, James and Sikes Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 4, at Maddox Chapel.

Abraham Garrett

Mr. Abraham Garrett, age 54, of Marianna, departed this life on Sept. 29, 2007, in Jackson Hospital.

Mr. Garrett was Baptist by faith, uniting at an early age with the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

He received his education from Jackson County Adult School. He was a successful entrepreneur, owning A. J. and Sons Lawn Service and Real Estate Investment.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 6, at 11 a.m., at the Second West Missionary Baptist Association Church, with the Rev. Dwight Cockerham, the Rev. William Harvey and the Rev. Lucious Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Vann Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 5, from 5 to 6 p.m., at Vann Funeral Home.

Mr. Garret will lie in repose at the church, from 10 a.m. until time for the service.

He leaves to cherish his memories: Wife, Vertie Lee Garrett of Marianna; mother, Josephine Garrett of Marianna; five daughters; three sons; one step-daughter; four step-sons; seven uncles, three aunts; 16 grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.
