Mrs. Mary Lee Smiley Martin, 75, of 508 E. 9th St., passed away in her home Tuesday morning, Nov. 14, 2000. Funeral services for Mrs. Martin will be held today, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m., at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Woodrow Wilson, officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. TIMOTHY J. SWEENEY
TSGT Timothy J. Sweeney of Panama City, Fla., died comfortably at home ,Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000. He has been a resident of the area since 1975, coming here from Goldsboro, N.C. TSGT Sweeney retired from the U. S. Air Force after 23 years and serving in the World War II, Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam Era. He was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus for many years, serving both church and community involvements. He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years: Mrs. Eva Leona Sweeney. Mr. Sweeney is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon M. Leggett of Panama City; a son, J. R. May and his wife Sue of Panama City; three grandsons: Jeffrey Teplicek and his wife Connie, Anthony Hester and his wife Angie, and Timothy Hester and his wife Cindy, all of Panama City; four granddaughters: Rebecca Coatney and her husband Frank, Elizabeth Leggett, Rachel Fox and her husband Kevin, and Maria May, all of Panama City; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Marie, Joey, Josh, Frankie, Matt, Melissa, Logan, Danielle, Chris, Phillip,Bubba, Olivia, Samantha, and Ashlyn. Graveside funeral services will be held 2 p.m., today, Nov. 18 at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery

BILLY WEBB ANDERSON
Mr. Billy Webb Anderson, 70, of Mexico Beach died Saturday Nov. 18, 2000, at his home. Born in Jackson, Tenn., he moved here in 1987, from Baltimore, Md. He was an accountant employed with General Motors. He was a Protestant and attended the United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict while serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Shirley Stiles Anderson of Mexico Beach; two sons, Dennis A. Anderson and wife DeAnne of Chipley, and Scott Anderson and wife Linda of Fallston, Md.; one daughter, Linda James and husband Wayne of Kingsville, Md.; and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

Elizabeth M. Florian, 75, of Panama City Beach passed away Saturday Nov. 18, 2000, at her residence. Born in Dothan, Ala., she moved here in 1945, from Cottonwood, Ala. She was a homemaker and a member of Gulf Beach Baptist Church. Ms. Florian is survived by two daughters, Myra Florian and grandson Calvin Florian, and Debra Duus and son-in-law Michael Duus; sister, Oleeta Tice Waters, and family; two sister-in-laws, Mavis Masters and family, and Dellie Czapenski and family; and a special and beloved friend Donna Callaway Garcia of Delaware. Mrs. Josephine Claire Heinbach, 76, of 722 Crews Drive in Panama City, passed away Saturday Nov. 18, 2000, at a local nursing home. Mrs. Heinbach had been a resident of Bay County since 1996, after coming here from Pennsylvania. She was an excellent seamstress, worked all her life, was a waitress in a cafeteria, went back to a vocational-technical school at the age of 50, ran a restaurant, was a clerk typist and was of the Lutheran faith. Mrs. Heinbach is survived by daughter, Sallie Bayer and her husband Anthony, of Panama City; stepson, Robert Heinbach and his wife Susan of Pottsville, Penn.; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday Nov. 20, 2000, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Peter Michael Karow, 59, of 2401 Stanford Road in Panama City died Tuesday Nov. 14, 2000, in his home. He was a retired major in the U.S. Army, having served in the Green Berets during the Vietname War. He had been a resident of Panama City for 10 years. He is survived by two sisters, Sallie Ann Harding of Blaine, Minn., and Lavonne Endres of Faribault, Minn.; two brothers, Dale Karow of Faribault, and Norbert Karow of Blaine; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Faribault.

Mr. William Reece Foster, 66, of 208 N. Hwy. 22A in Panama City, died Thursday Nov. 16, 2000, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area for seven years after coming here from Blairsville, Ga. Mr. Foster served his country in the U. S. Air Force and was Pentecostal by faith. He is survived by a daughter, Lori of Fountain; two sons, William of Panama City and Ernie of Fountain; the mother of Lori, William, and Ernie: Montine of Fountain; two sisters, Marjorie Sparks and Sue Sparks, both of Blairsville; two brothers, Ernie Foster and his wife June of Panama City, and Marian Foster and his wife Sandra of Blairsville; and 10 grandchildren. Mr. Howard Clifton Abbott, 81, of 10821 Las Vegas St. in Youngstown, passed away at his home Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000. Mr. Abbott had been a resident of Bay County since 1954 after coming here from Alabama. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, retired from International Paper Co. and from Southwest Forrest Industries. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Abbott is survived by two daughters, Jewell A. Hance of Youngstown and Barbara A. Brown of Valdosta, Ga.; three sons: H.A. "Sonny" Abbott of Panama City Beach, Larry N. Abbott of Lake Merrill, Fla., and Clifton Charles Abbott of Tallahassee; one sister, June Main of Hanceville, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Abbott was preceded in death by his wife, Bulah "Boots" Abbott, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. ROSA LEE BYRD
Mrs. Rosa Lee Byrd, 89, of 1002 Harris Ave., died Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Bay Medical Center. Mrs. Rosa Lee Byrd was born on March 27, 1911 in Dothan, Ala., to the late Della and Julius Whitehead. She was the sixth of 12 children. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. William Arthur Byrd, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Delphine Murry; two sisters, Addye B. Colvin and Bessie Williams; one niece, Vivian Williams; and one nephew, Ellis Williams Jr. She was a member of the Stewardess and Missionary and formerly served in the Pastor's Aid Club. Mrs. Byrd leaves to cherish her memory three stepsons: the Rev. Dr. Elton T. (Louberta) Byrd of Willingborough, N.J., William E. (Minnie) Byrd of Pensacola and the Rev. Milton A. (Gloria) Byrd of Roselle, N.J.; two stepdaughters, Maurice E. (Charles) Sizer of Dublin, Ga., and Merial Jean Byrd of Panama City; two nieces, Mary (Charles) Ford of Newark, N.J., and Joi Oubr‚ of West Los Angeles, Calif.; and a devoted friend, Phyllis Pennywell. She is also loved and is lovingly remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends too numerous to mention but not forgotten. Funeral services for Mrs. Byrd will be held Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Greater Bethel AME Church with the Rev. O.C. Williams, pastor and the Rev. Dr. Elton T. Byrd performing the eulogy. Internment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin today at the funeral home at 1 p.m. A family hour will be held today in the Battle Memorial Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.

Gussie Gilbert, 103, of Chipley, passed from this life on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the Washington County Convalescent Center in Chipley. She was a Baptist by faith and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cottondale. The funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Wachob Chapel in Chipley with the Rev.
