Shirley S. Glenn, 89, of Marianna, died late Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, in the Chipola Nursing Pavilion after an extended illness.
She was born in Kansas and was raised in Ft. Lauderdale through her high school years. She attended the the Florida State College for Women, where she lettered on the varsity swim team. Furthering her education, she attended the University of Michigan and majored in home economics. Shortly after, she was employed as a dietician for the Alachua County Hospital in Gainesville. Moving to Marianna 55 years ago, she was employed as a Jackson County teacher and a member of the Jackson County Teachers Association for over 20 years. She has served with the Pink Ladies of Jackson County Hospital and was Methodist by faith. She enjoyed swimming, crossword puzzles, reading, and loved her husband and children.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 63 years, Woodrow Wilson "Koon Bottom" Glenn of Marianna; children, Carol Prentiss and husband John of Andover, Mich., Steve Glenn and wife LaRhonda of Marianna, and Shirley Ellen Taylor and husband Bill of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Glenn Ames Prentiss, Kimball Prentiss, Dub Taylor, Glenn Taylor, Jess Glenn and Justin Cole Glenn; and great-grandchildren, Campbell Prentiss, Kate Prentiss, Haley Taylor and soon to arrive Baby Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 2, in the St. Lukes Episcopal Church, with William "Ed" Smith officiating and Markham Funeral Home of Marianna directing.
The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Jackson County Public Library at, Friends of the Library 2929 Green Street, Marianna, Fla., 32446; or The Covenant Hospice of Marianna, at 4349 Lafayette Street, Marianna, Fla., 32446.

Charles W. Bowlan, 77, of Marianna, Fla., formerly of Memphis, Tenn., passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Marianna.
He retired from Bell South in Memphis. He was a Pioneer with Bell South and a member of Bellevue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sarah Bowlan of Marianna; daughter, Linda Pittman of Marianna; son, Mike Bowlan of Memphis; brother, Ron Bowlan of Sommerville, Tenn.; sisters, Margaret Ballard and Helen Edwards of Memphis, and Jean Dollahite of Mt. Home, Ark.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the donor's choice of charities. The family will receive visitors from 4 - 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m., at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
