Walter Lee Brock, 80, of Aulander, N.C., died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

He was born April 29, 1925, to the late Dennis and Jesse Johnson Brock. He was a native of Marianna and a retired saw mill supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marie Horton Brock; and daughter Mary Ann Daniels.

Survivors include his sons, Rayburn L. Brock of Aulander, Johnny F. Brock of Ahoskie, N.C., and Walter L. Brock Jr. of South Bend, Ind.; sister, Emma Ruth Barfield of Port St. Joe; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 24, at 11 a.m., at the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, with the Rev. Paul Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends at the home after the service.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Aulander Rescue Squad or Chowan College. Massey Funeral Home of Aulander is in charge of services.

Michael Aaron Dates, 43, of Campbellton, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005, in the Campbellton-Graceville Hospital.

Survivors include his mother, Elease Wynn Varner of Campbellton; son, Mykel Dates of Campbellton; his maternal grandmother, aunts, uncles, great-aunt, cousins and friends; his paternal aunts, uncles, sisters, cousins and great-uncle.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 24, at 1 p.m., at the St.Paul A.M.E. Church in Campbellton, with the Revs. James Gibbs, Pararr Jones and Chaplain Ken Miller officiating.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with full military rites, graveside, under the direction of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville.

Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel in Graceville, and Wednesday, Aug. 24, from noon until time of service at 1 p.m., at the church.

The family requests that no flowers be sent.

Jerry R. Smith, 64, of Malone, passed away Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at Jackson Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 30, 1940, in Ocala, to Richard Eugene and Lee Bullard Smith. He retired from the State of California as a bridge engineer. He moved to Jackson County in 1990 from Mississippi. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Smith; and sister, Margaret Locke.

Survivors include his parents, Richard and Lee Smith of Malone; sister Debi Odom and husband Malcolm of Cypress; brother, Harold Smith of Pascagoula, Miss.; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m., graveside in Locke Cemetery, with the Rev. George Black officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m., at Lord Funeral Home Wednesday, Aug. 24. Lord Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ann Lipford, 61, of Marianna, Fla., passed away Friday, July 22, 2005 at her residence following a brief illness.

She was born in Bonifay Sept. 12, 1943, to the late Alvin and Lila Hinson Brett. She was a member of Live Oak Assembly of God Church in Bonifay and she attended Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge.

Survivors include her husband, Doise of Marianna; son David Lipford and wife Tracy of Marianna; sisters, Wynell Whitehead of Nederland, Texas , Yvonne Evans of Vernon, and Fay Sallas and Mary Brett, both of Bonifay; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 10a.m., Tuesday, July 26, at Live Oak Assembly of God Church in Bonifay with the Revs. Willie Butler and Kenneth Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

The family will receive friends from 6-8p.m., Monday at James and Sikes Maddox Chapel.

Roger Dale Bennett, 62, of Grand Ridge, son of the late George and Freda Bennett, passed away Friday, July 23, 2005, in Marianna after a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his wife, sisters, brother, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2p.m., Monday, July 25, at Maddox Chapel, with the Rev. William Hooppell officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends 5-7p.m.(CST), today, July 24, at Maddox Chapel.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice of Marianna or Chipola Christian Ministry.

John Ralph Cloud, 85 of Blountstown, passed away Thursday, July 21, in Panama City after a short illness.

He was born in Jackson County and had lived most of his life in Calhoun County. He was retired from the county after 20 years as a road grader and also ran Cloud Grocery in Blountstown for eight years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. During his time of service he spent two and a half years in the South Pacific, where he was awarded two Bronze medals, one silver medal and a good conduct medal.

He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish and was a master gardener. He always had a happy and jolly demeanor and loved people. He was a member of the Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church in Blountstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary Brinson Bailey Cloud, as well as his brothers, Charlie, Ellis, Chester, and Hugh.

Survivors include several sisters-in-law, Willie Clyde Cloud of Sebring, Doris Cloud of Avon Park, Sally R. Cloud of Shady Grove, Doris Bailey Spears of Havana, and Wilma Bailey of Blountstown; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a special great-great-nephew, John Plummer.

Funeral services will be held 2p.m., today, July 24, at the Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church in Blountstown with the Rev. Chad Corbin and Rev. William Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Nettle Ridge Cemetery with full military honors. Flowers will be accepted or you may make contributions to the Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church, 19280 NE SR 69 Blountstown, Fla. ,32424. Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services for Mattie Lee Comerford Thornton, 82, of Marianna, will be held today, Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m., in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dykes Cemetery. Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Madonna Jean Velez, 50, of Marianna, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City. Services will be conducted today, Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 3 p.m., at Maddox Chapel. Cremation will follow with James and Sikes Maddox Chapel directing.

C.J. Peacock, 77, of Sneads died Monday, Aug. 29, at Jackson Hospital in Marianna.

He was a native of Jackson County, where he had lived most of his life. He retired from the Olkaloosa County School System with 20 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Trudy Oliver Peacock of Sneads; brothers, Hubert Peacock of Titusville and Levie Peacock of Sneads; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, at James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel, with the Revs. Jack Howell and Sam Sweeney officiating. Burial will follow in Dykes Cemetery, with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m., today, Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Maddox Chapel.

Margaret C. Gargis, 77, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005 at a nursing facility.

She had been a resident of the Panama City area for 30 years, coming from Marianna.

She was raised Baptist and graduated Valedictorian from Marianna High School in 1946 and attended Chipola Junior College. She spent her entire career in government and public service and retired from the State Department of Juvenile Justice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Josie Mae and Samuel Arthur Clark.

Survivors include her son, John T. Bell and wife Lisa A. of Houston, Texas ; brothers, Robert "Sonny" Clark, David E. Clark and Fred M. Clark; sister, Betty Sauls; and grandchildren, John L. Bell, Lauren E. Bell, and Charles P. Bell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Craig Brannon officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, Sept. 2, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Contributions may be made in Ms. Gargis' name to Covenant Hospice, 107 W. 19th St., Panama City, Fla., 32405.
