HAROLD LEE RUSSELL, D.D.S.
Harold Lee Russell, D.D.S, Commander Ret., U.S. Naval Dental Corps., age 69, of 3016 W. 30th Court, Panama City, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at a local hospital. He was born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif.; and served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years. He had been a resident of the area for 19 years. Dr. Russell was a graduate of University of Southern California Dental School. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Russell of Panama City; daughters, Catherine Gordon and her husband Chris of Ponte Vedra, Fla., Sarah Russell of Jacksonville; sons, Robert Russell of Seattle, Wash., David Russell of El Segundo, Calif.; a brother, J. Gordon Russell and his wife Rae of Camarillo, Calif.; stepsister, Phyllis Ryals and her husband Paul of Van Nuys. Calif.; a stepbrother, Robert Berg of Whittier, Calif.; grandchildren, Amanda Gordon, Christopher Gordon, Olivia Gordon; sister in law, Maureen Schickler of San Diego, Calif.; brothers, Sioux Falls, S.D., Bro. David Manahan, O.S.B. of Collegeville, Minn., and Martin Manahan and his wife Laurie of Walla Walla, Wash. He was preceded in death by a brother, K. Dale Russell. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 8 at Kent -Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Msgr. Norman Metsy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. A private interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Association of St. Jude, Inc., P.O. Box 16576, Panama City, Fla. 32405.

ADAM IAN SPIRES
Funeral services for Mr. Adam Ian Spires, 19, of Panama City Beach, Fla., who died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, in Bay Medical Center as the result of a motorcycle accident will be conducted on Friday, Sept. 8, in Southerland Family Funeral Home at noon with Pastor Robin Woodrum officiating. Burial will be held in Atlanta, Ga. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon before the service.

CAROLYN PAIGE GOOCH BROCK
Mrs. Carolyn Paige Gooch Brock, 56, of Lynn Haven, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at her home. Born in Henderson, N.C., she was raised in Greenville, N.C. She lived in Selma, Ala., for four years before moving to Panama City in 1976. She was Methodist by faith and loved to play bridge with the Panama City Bridge Club. Mrs. Brock is survived by her husband, Rommie H. Brock of Lynn Haven; her mother, Willie Gooch of Henderson, N.C.; one daughter, Catherine Brock of Panama City; two sons, Richard Brock of Panama City Beach and Chris Brock and wife Jean of Lynn Haven; one brother, Richard Gooch of Henderson and one grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted today, Sept. 8, at 10 a.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Steve Southerland II officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Stan Timmins, Millard Nixon, Jim Moore, Dr. Park Chittom, Mike Walsh and Dan McDonald. Bill Frazier will serve as honorary pallbearer.

A memorial service for Mr. William Lee Eubanks, 35, of Panama City, will be conducted today at 6 p.m. in Southerland Family Funeral Home Chapel with his brother, Mr. Woodford C. Eubanks, conducting the eulogy.

LORA ELLA VIRGINIA HALL
Mrs. Lora Ella Virginia Hall, age 87, of Altha, died Wednesday at her home. Mrs. Hall was born in Jackson County and had lived in Altha most of her life. She was a member of the Page Pond Assembly of God near Altha. Survivors include four sons: Brady Hall of Greensboro, Angus Hall of Carr, Wayne and Jeral Hall both of Altha; two daughters, Joyce Williams of Tallahassee, Thelma Sellars of Bainbridge, Ga.; one sister, Alma Hall of Cypress; 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CST today from Page Pond Assembly of God Church near Altha with the Rev. W.M. Walker and the Rev. Carlton Baggett officiating. Interment will follow in New Shiloh Cemetery near Altha.

GLORIANNA HOLT
Glorianna Holt, 75, of Brooksville, Fla., died Wednesday, Sept. 6 at her residence. She had lived in the area for 18 years coming from Miami, Fla. She was a retired bookkeeper with the Winn Dixie Stores. Glorianna attended Spring Lake United Methodist Church in Spring Lake, Fla., and was past Governor of Florida Optimist Club in Coral City, Fla. She is survived by four sons: William Holt Jr. of Panama City, Alex Richard Holt of Brooksville, Robert L. Holt of Fort Smith, Ark., Lyndell Holt of Cape Coral, Fla.; three sisters: Sauly Hall of Eccles, W. Va., Lee Barlow of Deland, Fla., Shirley Probus of Homosassa Springs; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakley Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m., in Spring Lake United Methodist in Spring Lake, Fla. Pallbearers include: William Holt, Lyndell Holt, Robert Holt, Alex Holt, Kieth Holt and Alex Holt Jr. In lieu of flowers, make donations to Spring Lake United Methodist Church.

ELMIRA L. KNIGHT
Mrs. Elmira L. Knight, 82, of 1209 East 11th St., passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Gwendolyn Knight. Born in Hosford, Fla., she had been a resident of Panama City for fifty-seven years. She attended the public schools of Lakewood and DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and was graduated from Tivoli High School. After high school, she entered the nursing program in Tallahassee, and graduated from the Licensed Practical Nursing program. She was employed as a nurse at the Tyndall Air Force Base Hospital for thirty-six years. Mrs. Knight was a kind and gentle person, and she served well in her church and community. She was a very faithful member of St. John Baptist Church; Supreme Treasurer of the Heroines of Jericho; Most Ancient Grand Matron of the United Grand Court, Heroines of Jericho of the State of Florida; and she held membership in the T.W. Morrison Chapter 147 Order of Eastern Star; Hickman Court No. 21 Heroines of Jericho; Assyrian Court No. 14 Daughter of Sphinx, the Dollie Douglas Lodge No. 185 of the Ladies Aid Missionary Society, and Annie Walker Golden Age Club. Mrs. Knight is survived by her son Henry Knight and his wife Gwendolyn of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, Cottrice Lindsey of Cocoa, Fla.; and Joe Lindsey of Tallahassee; one sister, Fannie Lavern Hill of Tallahassee; an aunt, Frankie Ray of Tampa, Fla.; a granddaughter, Karla Knight-Moore of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandsons, Grant Andre Williams and Gregory Knight and his wife Eileen; a nephew, Earnest Little and his wife Daisy of Detroit, Mich.; great-grand-daughters, Paige Moore, Lauren and Alecia Knight; special daughter and son, Darleen and Josh Scott; special granddaughter, Jennifer Scott; a very loving extended family, Charles and Doris Williams of Orlando, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services for Mrs. Knight will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Rufus L. Wood Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the funeral. Visitation will begin this afternoon from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Battle Memorial Funeral Home.

MARVIN L. MERRITT SR.
Mr. Marvin L. Merritt Sr., age 81, formerly of Rochester, N.Y., passed away after a brief illness, Friday, Sept. 1, 2000. He had worked for General Motors, Rochester Products Division, for 37 years as a Senior Engineer, after moving to Panama City, Fla. Mr. Merritt worked for Judge Elinor, Marine Institute, Haney Vocational School, and for the past twelve years at Life Management as a friend and teacher. He was a member of the Optimist Club, Elks Club of Rochester, N.Y., and was a league bowler, breaking 300 several times as well as having a 200-plus average. Mr. Merritt leaves behind his beloved wife and partner of 63 years, Janette A. Merritt of Panama City; sons: Marvin L. Merritt Jr., Barry S. Merritt, Terence K. Merritt, and Bradley A. Merritt; nine grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela A. Merritt. A private memorial service was held and officiated by the Rev. Charles Key. A graveside service will be held at a later date for family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Jean Chapman Roll, age 73, of 2141 Pittman Dr., Panama City, who died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 8, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. Lewis Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. ELSIE SWINDLER
Elsie Swindler, age 88, of Panama City, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at a local nursing home. She was born and raised in Reese, Kan., and lived many years in Truth or Consequences, N.M., and then in Elba, Ala., before moving here in 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norval; a sister, Tillie Ballard; a brother, Robert Schadt and another brother who died in infancy. Mrs. Swindler is survived by her sister, Ruby Sexton and family of Cheney, Kan.; a daughter, Carol Grooms Watson of Panama City; three grandchildren, Robert Watson and his wife Missy of Panama City and Eric and Jessica Watson of Wetumpka, Ala.; and one great-grandson, Zachary.
