Mrs. Frances A. Tharpe of Bay Point, Fla., died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at a local hospital. She had been a resident of the area since 1983, coming here from Birmingham, Ala., and had lived in Port St. Joe for 15 years. Mrs. Tharpe was a member of Bay Point Ladies Club, Princess of The Krewe of Dominique Youx, and a member of LLL Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Panama City. She was the beloved wife of 56 years of William Tharpe, who passed away June 24, 2000. Mrs. Tharpe is survived by her sons, William Blaine Tharpe and his wife Lucy of Birmingham, Ala., and Arnold Craig Tharpe and his wife Kathie of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, William Blaine Tharpe Jr., Lee Bryan Tharpe, Sarah Virginia Tharpe, Catherine Ragan Tharpe Cantrelle and William Taylor Tharpe; great-grandchild, William Blaine Tharpe III; sisters, Mollie Arnold Weisbach and Kate Arnold Thomas, both of Phenix City, Ala., Ruth Arnold Smitheart of Blakely, Ga., and Ruby Arnold Malloy of Opelika, Ala.; and a brother, Charles Edward Arnold of Donalsonville, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 12, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Kenny Arnold, Wayne Thompson, Blaine Tharpe Jr., Bryan Tharpe, Cord Cantrelle and Ed Weisbach. Honorary pallbearer will be Taylor Tharpe. Mr. John Wesley Morgan, age 76, of 5733 Hwy. 73 S., Kinard, Fla., died Thursday morning, July 13, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Morgan was born in Calhoun County and was a life long resident. He was a pulpwood logger and also retired from Calhoun County Road Department. He was of the Holiness faith. Survivors include his wife, Laura Mae Morgan of Kinard; two daughters, Margaret Linton of Kinard, Delilah Pitts of Kinard; one brother, Monroe Morgan of Kinard; one sister, Elsie Mae Hughes of Marianna; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, July 15, at Cypress Creek Cemetery

EDDIE CURRY
Mr. Eddie Curry, 85, of 918 Church Ave., died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Bay Medical Center. He was a native of Caryville, Fla., but had been a long time resident of Panama City. On May 4, 1943, Eddie married Mary Ida Ponds, the love of his life. Seeking a better life for his wife and son, he moved them to Kansas City, Mo., in 1947, then to Milwaukee, Wis., in 1952. He worked for Crucible Steel Casting Company for 21 years. Upon retiring, Eddie and Mary moved back to Panama City where they lived until the Lord called him home. On July 7, Eddie left this world to rejoin his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Ida; his sisters, Ethel and Josephine and his brother, Joe. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving son, Eddie Rosselle Curry; daughter-in-law, Virgil; grandchildren: Angela, Austin, Darion; and three great-grandchildren, all of Phoenix, Ariz. He is also loved and will be remembered by his sister-in-law, Louella Wright; and brothers-in-law, James E. Ponds and Henry Wilkerson (Mildred); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention but not forgotten. Funeral services for Mr. Curry will be held Saturday, July 15, at 2 p.m. in Holy Temple Church of God In Christ with Elder W.C. Green officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin this afternoon at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. The remains will lie in state one hour prior to services to the church.

SANDOR KOVACS
Mr. Sandor Kovacs, age 61, of 4303 Legend Place, Panama City Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at his home. He had been a resident of the area for two years, coming here from San Diego, Calif. Mr. Kovacs served his country and retired as a First Sgt. in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed fishing and spending time on his boat. Mr. Kovacs is survived by his wife, Ingeborg Kovacs of Panama City Beach; a son, Riccardo Kovacs of San Francisco; a daughter, Gloria Deligiannis and her husband Tony of Norfolk, Va.; and a brother, Ferenc Kovacs and his family of Sobron, Hungary. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 26 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. C. Warren officiating. Mr. Joseph J. "Papa Joe" Russo, age 60, of 3114 A Lucas Lake Rd., Chipley, Fla., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at the UAB in Birmingham, Ala. He had been a resident of the area since 1981. Mr. Russo served his country in the U.S. Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star, and the Good Conduct Medal. He is survived by his wife, Ellie Russo of Chipley; his son, Tony Russo of Panama City; his parents, Rose and Ken Morgan of Middleville, MI; sisters and brothers: Joann, Judy, Wayne, Robin, Dan, Penny, and Steven; stepchildren: Gloria Feeney and her husband Tim, Tera Pippin-Brock and her husband Ken, Chester Fuller and his wife Vicki, and Donna Romano and her husband Tony, all of Panama City, Dean Fuller and his wife Laura of Albuquerque, N.M., David Fuller of Charleston, S.C., and Cindy Fuller of Atlanta, Ga.; and twelve grandchildren. Mr. Felix Williams Sr., 81, of 788 Cedar Ave. died Friday, July 7, 2000, at his home. Felix was born in Apalachicola, Fla., on June 25, 1919, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Williams. He married Leola Reed (who preceded him in death) on Feb. 16, 1946, and to this union was born seven children. A son, Felix Williams Jr. and a daughter, Elouise Hunter Porter, also preceded him in death. Felix was a loving husband and father. He was a cement finisher for over twenty-five years. He leaves to mourn his passing, three sons: Charlie Williams, Alvin (Fran) Williams and Henry Lee Williams; two daughters, Betty (Therdwell) Bellamy and Patty Patterson, all of Panama City; eight grandchildren: Evonne, Joan (Carlos), Pam (Lewis), Charlotte, Carlos (Shang), Kevin, Kenyatta, Kaleena; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren; one brother, CharlieWilliams of Long Island, N.Y.; three sisters: Beatrice (Len) Nelson of Panama City, Dorothy (Charlie T.) Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth Blackwell, age 92, of 1908 Palmetto Ave., Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at her home. She had been a resident of the area since 1957, moving here from California. Mrs. Blackwell is a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and Panama City Art Association. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Webb of Panama City; special friends,: Austin A. Woods and his wife Diane E. Reed of Panama City; nephews, Fred Webb and his wife Lynn of Panama City and Jesse Webb of Jacksonville, Fla.; great-nephew, Monty Webb and his wife Robin of Panama City; and several great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Newton Alvin Bishop, age 70, passed away July 12, 2000, at his home following an extended illness. Newton was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Harbison City, Fla. He grew up in Gulf County, with his beloved grandparents, John and Sophronia Bishop. Newton served in the Army in the Korean War in 1951 and 1952. He was a marine oiler for the Corps of Engineers on the Snagboat Montgomery along the Apalachicola River for 291/2 years, retiring in 1982. In 1978, he once again met and later married his childhood sweetheart, Sue Thomley. They lived in Florida, Texas, and Alabama, returning home to Gulf County in 1998. Newton was a member of New Harvest Fellowship Church. Newton was a hard-working man who enjoyed life, living everyday to its fullest. He loved to fish, garden, spend time with his family and the simple things in life. During his illness he held on to his sense of humor and his faith in God, and walked so courageously toward his heavenly home. Survivors include his wife, Sue Bishop of Wewahitchka; son, Wayne Bishop of Panama City; sister, Betty Melgoza of Atlanta; brother, Goober Dunlap of Port St. Joe; two grandchildren, Teresa Phillips of Tallahassee and Melissa Phillips of Panama City; three stepchildren: Steve Raley of Dothan, Sharon Jackson of Wewahitchka and Sonya Whitfield of Jacksonville; five stepchildren: Stephanie Raley, Kelli and Jacob Jackson, and Joslyn and Cambridge Whitefield; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today, July 15, at 11 a.m. in New Harvest Fellowship Church, conducted by the Rev. Claude McGill. Interment will follow in Roberts Cemetery.
