Mrs. Frances A. Tharpe of Bay Point, Fla., died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at a local hospital. She had been a resident of the area since 1983, coming here from Birmingham, Ala., and had lived in Port St. Joe for 15 years. Mrs. Tharpe was a member of Bay Point Ladies Club, Princess of The Krewe of Domnique Youx, and a member of LLL Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Panama City. She was the beloved wife of 56 years of William Tharpe, who passed away June 24, 2000. Mrs. Tharpe is survived by her sons, William Blaine Tharpe and his wife Lucy of Birmingham, Ala., and Arnold Craig Tharpe and his wife Kathie of Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren: William Blaine Tharpe Jr., Lee Bryan Tharpe, Sarah Virginia Tharpe, Catherine Ragan Tharpe Cantrelle and William Taylor Tharpe; great-grandchild, William Blaine Tharpe III; sisters, Mollie Arnold Weisbach and Kate Arnold Thomas, both of Phenix City, Ala., Ruth Arnold Smitheart of Blakely, Ga., and Ruby Arnold Malloy of Opelika, Ala.; and a brother, Charles Edward Arnold of Donaldsonville, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 12, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Kenny Arnold, Wayne Thompson, Blaine Tharpe Jr., Bryan Tharpe, Cord Cantrelle and Ed Weisbach. Honorary pallbearer will be Taylor Tharpe. Mrs. Summer Gayle Laurita, 21, of 404 Alpine Way, Panama City, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, July 9, 2000 while on her way to church. She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a medical assistant. She was a member of Callaway Assembly of God Church and graduated from Rutherford High School in 1997 and Tom P. Haney Vo-Tech in 1998. Mrs. Laurita is survived by her parents, Wayne and Elaine Chappel; her husband, Lucas R. Laurita; one son, Hunter Gauge Carthel Laurita; sister, Janet Pippin; maternal grandmother, Verniese Hall; paternal grandparents, Myra and Troy Chappel; nephew, Christopher Wayne Pippin all of Panama City; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maxine and Dan Laurita; brother-in-law, Christian Laurita; sister-in-law, Chassity Laurita all of Alaska; special cousin and friend, Thomas McGill. Mrs. Leila E. (Shields) Peckham, R.N., 89, of 1111 Georgia Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Sunday, July 9, 2000. Born in Utica, N.Y., to Thomas and Mary Shields, she had been a resident of Lynn Haven for the past 18 years. She graduated from St. Agnes Grammar School, Utica Free Academy and St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing all in Utica, N.Y. She retired from St. Elizabeth Hospital in 1973. Her mother and father, her husband, Fred. E. Peckham and five sisters precede her in death. Mrs. Peckham is survived by her son, Fred S. Peckham and wife Jeanne; one granddaughter, Kathleen Wright; three grandsons, Fredrick "Rick" Peckham, Joseph Hillje and Michael Peckham; six great-grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 12, at 10 a.m. with Father William Brown celebrating. She will be sent to Utica, N.Y., for burial in St. Agnes Cemetery
at a later date.

Mr. Kevin Michael Yriondo, 34, of Panama City Beach, died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at his home. Born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, he moved here in 1992 from Virginia. He was previously a copy editor for The News Herald. Tess Barker died on Wednesday, June 27, 2000, after a long and courageous fight against liver disease. With a larger pool of donors Tess probably would have made it. She is mourned by parents and family in the Philippines and in Hawaii. Here, she is especially mourned and remembered by Jesse Aguon, Nicole Walker, Helene and Cary Thompson, and the many co-workers, friends and patients at Glencove Nursing Pavilion. Mr. Alan L. Brown, age 57, of 180 N. Kimbrel Ave., Callaway, Fla., passed away Friday, July 7, 2000. He was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Callaway four years, moving here from West Palm Beach. He was an independent insurance adjuster and had worked as an agent for American General Insurance Company. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was of the Jewish faith. He is survived by his wife, Karen Brown of Callaway; two sons, Joshua Aaron Brown and Eric Michah Brown, both of Callaway; his "adopted son," Michael Hoff of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Robert H. Brown of Pensacola and Lawrence J. Brown of Staten Island, N.Y. Private graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 12, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Mr. Joel Margules officiating. Ms. Maria Regla Jones, age 50, of 8606 Deerpoint Drive, Youngstown, Fla., died Sunday, July 9, 2000, at Jackson County Hosptial. She had been a resident of the area since 1986, coming here from Italy. Ms. Jones was a longstanding member of the American Postal Workers Union and Protestant by faith. She had worked as a window postal clerk at several local post office locations. She is survived by her son, Shawn Barry Jones of Youngstown; mother, Onelia Cruz Valdez of Tampa; a sister, Helen B. Angell and her husband Stephen of Tampa; five brothers: Louis Valdez, Larry Valdez, Jesus Valdez, Angel Valdez, and Victor Valdez, all of Tampa; and her former husband: Mike Jones of Youngstown. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, July 13, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Aaron Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Anna Mae Kelley, age 67, of 1517 Blue Grass Lane, Lynn Haven, Fla., died Monday, July 10, 2000, at her home. She had been a resident of the area from 1958 until 1964, returning here in 1993 after the retirement of her husband. Mrs. Kelley was a former model for Velma's Ladies Shop and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was also a member of the Ladies Association of Panama City Scottish Rites. During the time from 1958 until 1964 she was a member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church and from 1993 until the present time she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Mrs. Kelley is survived by her husband, Paul Kelley of Lynn Haven; a son, Paul D. Kelley and his wife Kathy of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters, Cathy Ramirez and her husband Domingo of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kimberly Cisek and her husband Terry of Lancaster, Calif.; five brothers, Alvin Shaffer of Dallas, Penn., Kenneth Shaffer of Panama City, Donald Shaffer and William Shaffer, both of Dallas, Penn., and Richard Shaffer of Virginia; a sister, Carrie Purvin of Shavertown, Pa.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. James R. McCIuskey, 59, of Callaway, died Monday, July 10, 2000, ~ a local hospital. Mr. McCluskey was a native of Manhattan, NY, and had lived in Ft Lauderdale, FL for many years before moving to Callaway six years ago. Survivors include his wife, Annette McCluskey, Callaway, three sons, Robert and Ronald McCluskey of Callaway, and Thomas McCluskey of Warner Robins, GA, a daughter, Debbie Brown, Warner Robins, GA; a brother, George McCluskey, Baltimore, MD; a niece, Kimberly McCluskey, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, an aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Ben Passione, Delanco, NJ; six grandchildren, Curtis, Kristen, Elizabeth, Mat, Jonathan, and Deven.
