WILLIAM GUYTON WEBBER SR.
William Guyton Webber Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on June 8, 2000. He was the son of the late Fred R. and Winnie Manning Webber Sr. Born in Charlotte, N.C., on Sept. 4, 1927, and reared in Nashville, Tenn., Webber graduated from the Duncan Preparatory School for Boys and later from Vanderbilt University with a major in business administration. After several years in the banking business in Tennessee and Georgia, Webber owned and operated restaurants in Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama. Later he owned and operated a hardware business in Dothan, Ala. In 1982, Webber moved from Dothan to Panama City Beach. In 1983, he constructed Coconut Creek, a family entertainment park on Panama City Beach and has owned and operated it since. He has been quoted as saying that he "learned from his failures and is grateful to God, family, friends and co-workers for his successes." Webber served in the United States Marine Corps in World War II, where he was attached to the Sixth Marine Division and participated in the occupation of North China. He was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Webber is survived by his wife, Mildred Cummings Webber; daughter, Mildred Claire Triece and her husband Steve; sons, William Guyton Webber Jr., Henry C. Webber and his wife Laura, Frederick R. Webber II, Michael M. Webber and his wife Susan; brother, Fred R. Webber Jr. and his wife Anne; sister, Julie Bowring; grandsons, Oliver Webber, Taylor Triece; granddaughters, Courtney Triece and Anna Webber. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Woodlawn United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ronald T. Ball officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. BILL AKINS
Bill Akins, 1934 to 2000, outran us to our father's house on June 9, 2000. He was retired from the fields of education, law enforcement and the Methodist ministry. Bill was a veteran of the Korean Era and Vietnam Era. He had a strong love and loyalty for his country. He received degrees from Mercer and Emory Universities. Boll fulfilled his lifelong dream of living in Panama City Beach, moving here with his family after he retired from the Gordon County Georgia Sheriff's Department. His love for people naturally drew him into the real estate profession and inspired him to establish Century 21 Akins and Associates, as an avid saltwater fisherman, Bill enjoyed creating the television show, Livin My Dream, on WJHG, Sunday morning at 6 a.m. Bill's memory will always be alive in the heart of his best friend and wife of 24.5 years, Reba Akins, an educator with Bay District schools. Two daughters, Pepper Akins, a senior at Florida State University and the postal clerk at the Navy Coastal System Center; Pipper Akins, a real estate broker who worked along side her dad and her husband William Telker. Brothers, Randall Akins and his wife Deborah, and Rocky Akins and his wife Zehara. Nephews, Brian Bramlet, Jonathan Akins and Heath Hyde. Nieces, Brittany and Mary Beth Akins. Mother and father-in-law, David and Patsy Baker and sister-in-law, Debbie Hyde. Deenie Adams Johnson Altman, 38, of 1320 Luverne Ave., Panama City, died Friday, June 9, 2000, in her home. She had been a resident of Panama City since 1969 moving here from Jacksonville. She was a retired certified respiratory therapist at Gulf Coast Hospital. She is survived by five children, Amy Kristen Slay, Kenneth William Robert Johnson, Louis Lynn Altman Jr., Victoria Noel Johnson, Gatlin Anthony Johnson; two granddaughters, Emily Breanna Hobbs, Kourtney McKenzy Slay; father, Robert Edward Adams Jr.; brother, Bob Adams; four sisters, Judy Nelson, Jan Jones, Jeannie Resnikoff and Barbara Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews. Theo Smith Barker passed away Sunday, June 4, 2000, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Theo resided in Panama City from 1964 until 1991 when she moved to Fairfax County, Virginia. She was born April 26, 1913. She was involved in many activities in Bay County among them were the Woman's Club, Azalea Circle Panama City Garden Club and Saint Andrew Bay Yacht Club. She was also very active in the Wesley Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Troy A. Barker and a granddaughter. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara and retired Navy Capt. Jim Corn, of Annandale, Va., Jane and retired Army Col. John Hodges, of Bozeman, Mont.; son, Troy A. Barker Jr. and Heide of Germany; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services for Theo will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at the Arlington National Cemetery

Ms. Marie Mitchell Bonner, 80, of Southport, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at a local hospital. Born in Cullman, Ala., she is a lifelong resident of Bay County. Ms. Bonner was a cook at Tyndall Air Force Base and at Taco Tex on 15th Street. She was also a member of Southport Holiness Community Church. She is survived by one daughter, Faye Vickers and husband Ernie of Southport; two sisters, Mae Cling of Pell City, Ala., and Patricia Glass of Center Point, Ala.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Vickers, Jackie Vickers and Jessica Vickers all of Southport. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 12, 2000, at 10:30 a.m., in the Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with Nixon Riley officiating. Interment will follow in the New Southport Cemetery. GEORGE ALLEN 'BO' BURTON JR.
Mr. George Allen "Bo" Burton Jr., 48 of North Fort Myers, formerly of Panama City, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, as a result of a helicopter crash. Mr. Burton was a firefighter/pilot with the Division of Forestry. He had lived in Fort Myers for a year, moving there from Tallahassee. He was a 1970 graduate of Rutherford High School and was retired from the U.S. Army. Mr. Burton is survived by his sons, Jorn Allen Burton of North Fort Myers, and Justin Dane Burton of Wolfersheim, Germany; his halfbrother, Larry Stuckey; two halfsisters, Kay Clark and Karen Mayes; his stepsister, Brenda Jo Mathis; a niece, Mary Ann Mathis of Panama City; and a nephew, Wilson B. JOE LEWIS HORNE
Joe Lewis Horne, 69, of 607 N. Star Ave., Panama City, died Friday, June 9, 2000, in Sand Lake Hospital, Orlando where he received excellent care. He is survived by his wife, Star Bright Horne; his children, Rita Miller, Joseph Horne and his wife, Wanda, Margaret Odom and her husband, Tim; Starlett Miller and 11 other grandchildren, all of Panama City; two brothers, Mickey Horne of Arkansas and John Edward Horne of Texas; sister-in-law, Helen King and her husband, Gordon, of Panama City; and two special friends, John R. Givens and Dick Lavigne. He was an electrical consulting engineer working throughout the world until 1980, after which he dedicated his life to the Masonic Orders. Joe began his Masonic Career in 1956 when he took his 3 symbolic degrees in Port Arthur, Texas Lodge No. 1264. He was a past master of Bay Lodge No. 337, past president of the Master and Wardens Association of the Blue Lodge and past district deputy grand master of district No. 4. Other Grand Lodge appointments include zone chairman for L.Y.P.M.G.C. and junior grand steward for the year 1999-2000. In the York Rite he was past illustrious master (1986), past high priest (1988), past commander (1988), past right illustrious district deputy grand master (1989-90), past right emminent district deputy grand high priest (1990-91) and right emminent district deputy grand commander (1991-92). He was a member of Allied Independent Bodies, such as, High 12, the Royal Order of Scotland, York Rite College, the Order of High Priesthood, Knights Crusaders of the Cross, the Order of Annointed Kings, Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests, the Red Cross of Constantine; as well as an Honorary Member of the Grand Chapter of R.A.M. of Mississippi and the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Mississippi; a Representative for the Grand Council of Royal Select Masters of the State of Wisconsin (for Florida); and committee man for the Grand Council, State of Florida. He was also awarded the "Ish Sodi" Award. As a member of Shaddai Shrine Temple, he was past president of Dramatic Cast, chairman of the Dramatic Cast Stage Crew, a member of the Past Masters Unit, Hot Rod Unit and Caravan Unit and an Ambassador from 1986 to 1992. He was a 32nd degree K.C.C.H. Scottish Rite Mason. Other offices include orator, Chapter of Rose Croix and Chairman of Paraphernalia Room; he was serving as Master Kadosh. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe O'Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites to be conducted by the Bay Lodge No. 337 at the graveside. The family is receiving friends at the family's home, 607 N. THOMAS WILLIAM JAMES
Mr. Thomas William James, 78, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at the home of his daughter after a short illness. Tom was born in Springfield, Ill., Oct. 6, 1922. Tom retired from the U.S. Navy with 24 years of honorable service, serving his country in the South Pacific during World War II and Korea. Upon retirement from Naval service, he was employed by the Navy Experimental Diving Unit as an equipment specialist, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Bay Masonic Lodge No. 337 and the Shaddai Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen C. James. He is survived by two sons, David William James of Brandywine, Md., and Edward Franklin James of Westminster, Md.; two daughters, Bette A. Bruhmuller of Panama City, and Christine M. Wolf, of Treasure Island; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted today, June 11, 2000, at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Full military honors will be accorded as well as Masonic rites being given by Bay Masonic Lodge No. 337. The lodge will open at noon today. MIKEY CEYLON JONES JR.
Mikey Ceylon Jones Jr., age 43, died May 25, 2000, from the results of an automobile accident. Mikey was the first student body president of the first graduating class of Mosley High School. He received a Masters of Theological Arts Degree from Vanderbilt University. He is survived by his wife, Deborah and two children, Heidi and Landon; his parents, Frances and Mikey Jones Sr., of Tampa; and loving relatives and friends. Herbert Lockey, 79, of Marianna, died at his residence Saturday, June 10, 2000. He was a native of Cypress, and of the Baptist faith. He was the Jackson County property appraiser for 17 years, a Jackson County commissioner for four years, worked for Jackson County Tax Collector Olin Brewer for one year, was VA officer for Jackson County for one year, was a veteran serving in the Navy for three years and the Air Force for 20 years, and also a member of Marianna Elks Lodge No. 1516. He is survived by his wife, Ada Lockey of Marianna; one sister and brother-in-law, Veda and Robert A. "Mack" McMillan of Charleston, S.C.; two step-daughters, Helen R. Smith, Deborah A. Baxley and husband Joseph D. Baxley; two stepsons, James R. Hansford and George A. Hansford, all of Marianna; godchild, Cindy Shipman and husband Trip Shipman of Panama City; seven stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
