Dr. Herbert Larrimore, age 74, of 236 W. Baldwin Road, Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at his residence. Dr. Larrimore had been a resident of the area since 1962, moving here from Mobile, Ala. He had a Ph.D. in Physics and worked as a Physicist and chief scientist at the Naval Coastal Systems Station in Panama City Beach for 30 years and had operated Larrimore Enterprises for 21 years. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an accomplished inventor who had many patents in his name, loved machinery and enjoyed working on automobiles. He was multi-lingual, loved to travel, loved all sports and enjoyed bearfoot-water-skiing. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. Dr. Larrimore is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen Wilson Larrimore of Panama City; sons, John W. Larrimore of Southport, Kevin P. Larrimore and Michael Larrimore, both of Panama City; daughters, Deborah L. West of Sopchoppy, Fla., and Mary A. Larrimore of Panama City; sisters, Irma Carson and Cecile Day, both of Grovehill, Ala.; a brother, Dr. Roy Larrimore of Thomasville, Ala.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are Bill Gaddie, George B. Dowling, L. Frank Walker, Joe Horn, Erick Tuovila, Tom Cooper, Warren Biegler, John Lee and Ferrell Lawrence. Mr. Charles E. "Chuck" Lester, age 69, loving husband, father, grandfather and Christian, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at his residence. He has been a resident of the area since 1973, moving here from Mississippi. He was a retired instructor for Textron Marine Industries in Panama City and formerly worked in the Space Program for N.A.S.A. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Lester was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City and was a former member of the Men's Sunday School Class at St. Andrews Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and reading his bible. Mr. Lester is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia Lester of Panama City; daughters, Deborah L. Ferguson of Kingston, Tenn., Lynn Clayton of Panama City; a son, Charles "Robby" Lester of Panama City; grandchildren, Lynn and Ashlee Lenoir, both of Kingston, and Bryant, Micaylee, Everett and Ethan Clayton, all of Panama City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lester. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 31, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. MARY ANN HOPPER McCRARY
Mary Ann Hopper McCrary, of Marianna, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Jackson Hospital. She was born in Auburn, Ala., a resident of Marianna and had lived in this area for 46 years. Mrs. McCrary was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Altar Guide. She was a life member of National Council of State Graden Clubs, Inc. and a nationally-accredited flower show judge. Mrs. McCrary was also a board member of Marianna Symphony. She volunteered her time as a pink lady at Jackson Hospital and was a member of the Azalea Circle of Marianna Garden Club. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Dr. Ben McCrary of Mariannna; one daughter, Lynn Cartwright of Bonita Springs, Fla.; one son, Rick McCrary of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Dorothy Hopper McGrath and Emily Hopper Maltba both of Atlanta; one brother, Dr. Herbert W. Hopper of Pitts, Ga.; two granddaughters, Sarah and Cartherine Cartwright of Bonita Springs; nine nieces and two nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, in First United Methodist Church in Marianna with Dr. Frank Hyles officiating. The family will receive friends today, May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Phillip David Bass, age 72, of 2836 Avon Road, Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at his home. He loved to fish and was of the Pentecostal faith. Mr. Bass loved to make other people happy and was a wonderful Dad. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bass of Panama City; three daughters, Bonita Pope and her husband Randall, Sandra Holley and her husband Walter, and Donna Caudill and her husband Robert, all of Panama City; a son, Phillip Larry Bass and his wife Sheila of Panama City; four step-daughters, Terrie Swain and her husband John of Georgia, Pamela Williams and her husband Jimmy of Oklahoma, Donna Brashers and her husband Nathan and Alice Santos and her husband Jason, all of Georgia; sisters, Mattie Hawthorne of Jay, Fla., Alberta Windham of Milton, Fla., Louise Allen of Jay and Hazel Baldree of Orlando; brothers, Ed Bass of Orlando and H. Mrs. Carrie Dell Hammons, age 81, of 1108 Indiana
Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., went to be with Jesus Tuesday, May 30, 2000. She had been a resident of the area since 1955, coming here from Virginia. Mrs. Hammons was a great cook and enjoyed gardening. She was also a wonderful wife and mother. Mrs. Hammons is survived by a daughter, Faye W. Dennis and her husband David of Lynn Haven; three sons: Elton Williams and his wife Margaret of Goldsboro, N.C., Earl Williams of Williamston, N.C., and Leroy Bland and his wife Ann of Plymouth, N.C.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mattie Elizabeth Parker and her husband, Woodrow Hammons. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 2, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel.
