Mrs. Opal Canter, 83, of Panama City, passed away Saturday, May 27, at the home of her daughter in Bayou George. She was a native of Sneads, Fla., but had been a resident of Bay County since 1952. Mrs. Canter retired after 10 years with the Bay County School Board, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bayou George. She is survived by two daughters, Helen Harbuck and her husband Doyle of Bayou George, and Kathy Tew of Callaway; son, Arthur Collingsworth and his wife Beneva of Bayou George; stepdaughter, Edna O'Buck of Crawfordville, Fla.; sister, Tommie Burkett of Callaway, Fla.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Michael Weldon, Joey Collingsworth, Charles Register, William Skipper, Dessel Eldridge and Brian Edwards. Mr. Hoyt Thomas Chancey, 83, of 711 Pennsylvania Ave., in Lynn Haven, died Saturday, May 27, at a local nursing center. He had been a resident of the area since 1976 after coming here from Haleyville, Ala. Mr. Chancey was Methodist by faith. Mr. Chancey is survived by his wife, Mary Chancey of Lynn Haven; son, Terry Chancey of Lynn Haven; four daughters: Patricia Ann Barnes and her husband Rodney of Lynn Haven, Dorothy Jean Chancey of Lynn Haven, Ruth Amelia Bradley and her husband of Dewey of Panama City, and Elaine Willoughby of Callaway; sisters, Rose Mims of Fort Payne, Ala., and Geraldine Barefield of Abbeville, Ala.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Moore and the Rev. R.C. Warren officiating. Mrs. Irene Dean, 87, of 3120 Douglas Road in Panama City died on May 26. She had been a resident of the area since 1940 and was a past member of order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Irene Dean is survived by her husband of 63 years, Herbert Dean of Panama City; son, James C. Dean and wife Fleta of Panama City; daughter, Bettie Bailey and husband Don of Eustis, Fla.; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tom Douglas officiating. WANDA DARLENE DIEHL
Wanda Darlene Diehl, 55, of 8003 Beach Drive in Panama City Beach, passed away May 27 at the home of her family after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Darlene Diehl, the daughter of Frances Trawick of Panama City, was a graduate of Bay High School and had been employed by Pompano's Restaurant for the past nine years. Ms. Diehl is survived by three children: Toby Diehl of Panama City, Becky Diehl of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Tim Diehl of Panama City; brother, Charles Walruff and wife Anna; sister, Becky Boling; two nephews, Chris Boling and Matthew Boling; and niece, Brittany Boling, all of Panama City. The memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Edwards officiating. ELEANOR 'ROBBIE' DWYER
Mrs. Eleanor "Robbie" Dwyer, R.N., 87, of Summer's Landing in Lynn Haven, died Sunday, May 28, in Panama City. She was a native of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and moved to Lynn Haven from California in 1991. She graduated from the Wyoming Valley, Pa., Hospital as an R.N., did post-graduate courses at the Philadelphia General Hospital. Robbie also completed courses at the Margaret Hagen Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., and at Columbia University. She was a former administrator in three nursing homes and was a consultant R.N. for California Health Care Services, reviewing patients at nursing homes. She had been a private duty head nurse at several hospitals in Pennsylvania and California. She served as past president of Creekridge Villa Association in Santa Maria, Calif., and past president of the Coronary Club in Santa Maria. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothe McGhee of Panama City; a son, Robert Dwyer of California; a brother, Allan Roberts and his wife Elizabeth of Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Justin, Derrick and Jennifer Dwyer; and Seedra and John McGhee. Her husband, Frank R. Dwyer, preceded her in death. Graveside funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Rose Ann Billquist, 90, of Emporia, Kan., died Friday, May 26, 2000, in an Olathe, Kan., hospital. She had been a resident of Panama City from 1961 to 1967 before moving to Jacksonville then to Emporia. She was a member of the St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by two sons, Robert Arthur Billquist of Olathe, Kan., and Peter John Billquist of Illinois; two daughters, Sister Sylvia Marie Billquist of Plymouth, Wis., and Anita Louise Kick of Jacksonville; two sisters, Marie McDonald and Helen Wheeler, both of Panama City; and a brother, Louis L. Piper of Upland, Calif. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter Zalewski officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary to be held at 7 p.m.

Mr. Thomas Guy "Buck" Buchanan, 58, of Panama City Beach, died Saturday, May 27, 2000. Mr. Buchanan was born in Spalding, Colo., the son of the late Thomas Guy Buchanan. He was a lifelong musician. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Johnnie Copeland of Griffin, Ga.; stepmother, Louise Thomas, of Morrow, Ga.; brothers, Donald Buchanan of Morrow, Ga., Jimmy Buchanan, of McDonough, Ga., and Terry Buchanan of Forrest Park, Ga.; children, Kellie B. Martin of Piedmont, Ala., Maria Buchanan of Piedmont, Ala., Michael Sims of Hampton, Ga., Darrin Sims, of Anniston, Ala., Billy Joe Buchanan, Clayton Buchanan, and Tammie Schrock, all of Panama City; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Billy Don Burch Sr., 65, of Springfield, died earlier this week at his residence. Mr. Burch is a lifelong resident of Bay County and was an electrician for Gulf Power Co. He was also a member of the EEW Union. Billy Don is predeceased by one daughter, Diane Burch Sissom. He is survived by one son, Billy Don Burch Jr., of Callaway; one daughter, Charlotte Anderson of Callaway; two sisters, Wonda Galloway of Haynes City, Jean Bush of Marianna; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. CALVIN O. DECKER
Mr. Calvin O. Decker, 76, of Panama City, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at his residence. He had been a resident of the area since 1967, moving here from Eglin Air Force Base. Mr. Decker retired after a 22-year career in the Air Force during which time he served in the Korean Conflict. He went on to a second career in the civil service, retiring after 25 years. He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Decker is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carol Decker of Panama City; a brother, Gerald L. Decker of Stuttgart, Ark.; cousins, Catherine Keltner of Panama City and Thomas Decker and his wife Eda of Lynn Haven; and a number-one son, Maxie.
