Jason Garrity Morse,

Jason Garrity Morse, 22, of Millsboro died unexpectedly, along with his dearest and best friend, George Russell Benton Jr., Friday, March 24, 2006, near Gumboro.
Mr. Morse was born in Delaware County, Pa. He was a 2001 graduate of Sussex Central High School, Georgetown.
He was employed by Delaware Elevator Services, Salisbury, Md. An accomplished musician, he also gave drum lessons at B&B Music, Lewes, and played drums for the local band Shattered Senses.
Mr. Morse was a fun-loving, compassionate and caring young man who was loved by all. He had a passion for life and an equal passion for music. The Lord blessed Jason with a kind nature, and his beautiful spirit touched all.
He is survived by his parents, William Garrity Morse and Loretta Ann Farrell Morse, to whom he was a loving son; two brothers and a sister, William J. Morse, Ryan Alexander Morse and Kristin Lee Morse, to whom he was a loving brother; a daughter, Cadence Fiona Morse, to whom he was a loving and caring father; paternal grandparents, William H. and Josephine Morse of Millsboro; maternal grandparents, Joseph E. and Selma Farrell of Darby, Pa.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown.
Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, in the funeral chapel, where friends also may call one hour earlier.

James G. ‘Jim’ Hipp,
retired music teacher
James G. “Jim” Hipp, 94, of Lewes died Friday, March 17, 2006, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes.
Mr. Hipp grew up in Johnstown, Pa., and moved to Baltimore. He served his country in the U.S. Navy in World War II.
Mr. Hipp taught music in several Catholic high schools in Baltimore and in county elementary schools. He also was organist and choir director at 14 Holy Martyrs and St. Augustine’s Catholic churches in Baltimore. He retired to Delaware, where he remained until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Burns, whom he had married in Baltimore.
He is survived by his son, J.R. Hipp of Milton; and a daughter, Mary Jo Hipp of Boston.
Services and burial were held in Baltimore.
A Mass of remembrance will be held at 7:30 a.m., Monday, June 12 - his birthday - in St Jude’s Catholic Church, Lewes.

Clark Warren Smith,

Clark Warren Smith, 64, of Milton died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Milton, son of the late John and Betty Virtue Warren.
He worked as a security guard for The Plantations and also worked for Mid-Del, Callaway’s, IGA, Sherman Heating and I.G. Burton’s.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Spencer Smith of Milton; a daughter and a son-in-law, Sharon and Charles Clayville of Lincoln; a sister, Joann Willey of Milford; two brothers, Kevin Warren of Lusby, Md., and Wayne Robinson of Georgetown; two granddaughters, Tiffany Heinen and Victoria Heinen; 18 nieces and nephews; and 14 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Services will be at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 30, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call two hours earlier. A reception will be in First Baptist Church, Milford.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the funeral home to help defray funeral expenses.
Robert ‘Bob’ Beebe Sr.,
furniture refinisher
Robert Louis “Bob” Beebe Sr., 74, of Preston, Md., died Thursday, March 23, 2006, in Caroline Home for Hospice, Denton.
Mr. Beebe was born Oct. 17, 1931, in Ellendale, son of the late Raywood and Pauline Harris Beebe.
He served in the U.S. Army during both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Mr. Beebe, after retiring from military service, refinished furniture in his business called “Wood Doctors.”
He loved to watch his grandchildren play ball, and was a NASCAR fan. He was a lifetime resident of the area.
Mr. Beebe was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Hurlock, Md.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia A. “Pat” Beebe; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott D. and Joan Beebe of Marydel, and Steven J. Beebe of Preston; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane M. Harrill of Batcave, N.C., and Kathy and Dennis Plutschak of Preston; eight grandchildren, Michael Hicks, and his wife, Lori, of Federalsburg, Jesse Beebe and Beth Beebe, both of Marydel; Dustin Harrill and Brandy Harrill, both of Batcave; and Troy Plutschak, Heidi Kraegenbrink and Corey Beebe, all of Preston; three “very special grandsons,” Christopher Hall of the U.S. Navy, stationed at Bethesda, and Bryan Cheezum and Travis “Hot Dog” Cheezum, both of Preston; and two great-grandsons, Chad Hicks of Federalsburg and Dominic Beebe of Marydel.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Eastern Shore Veterans cemetery , Hurlock.

Janet D. (Boone) Ciafardo

Janet D. Ciafardo, 54, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2006, with her loving husband, Phil, at her side.
Janet was born Oct. 8, 1951, in Wilmington, to Janet and Irvin Boone. She was married to her beloved husband, Phil, for 37 years. Janet graduated from the Wilmington School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked for the past 22 years at Crozer Chester Hospital. Janet was a parishioner at St. Jude’s Apostle Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach. Janet enjoyed life to the fullest and cherished her times at the beach with her husband and many friends.
Janet will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Philip J. Ciafardo; sons, Philip and David Ciafardo and his wife, Megan; granddaughter, Adriana of Newport; brother, Irvin Boone of St. Petersburg, Fla.; sister, Sharon Rising of Sunberry, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 29. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery . Robert T. Bartley
retired veteran
Mr. Robert T. Bartley, Sr., 79, of Wilmington, fondly known to some as “Bob” and to others as “Bo,” passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006, at Christiana Hospital after a short illness.
He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Many of you may recall him from his radio handle “Bob from Newark,” as he regularly called in to the local radio talk shows. Son of the late Harry and Helen (Hamilton) Bartley, Bob was born Oct. 17, 1926, and raised in Worcester, Mass. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and served during the last year of World War II. After the war, as part of his naval training, he attended Dartmouth College for a short period of time and then went on to the Naval Academy Preparatory School at Bainbridge before attending the U.S. Naval Academy.
Upon graduation from the naval academy in 1952, he joined a number of his classmates and entered the Air Force, which had no academy at that time. Bob received a master’s degree in business administration from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology in 1959. He served for 20 years as a navigator in the Air Force, ultimately being stationed at the Dover Air Force Base in 1967, where he flew 80 supply missions to Vietnam before retiring in 1972.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bob was managing director of the Delaware Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals until 1975, and served as fiscal assistant to the president’s office at Delaware Technical & Community College from 1976 to 1977.
He retired as director of the Delaware Energy Office in 1991. Bob was one of the office’s first two employees when it was established in 1977. His work there yielded not only many millions of dollars in state energy savings, but more than $10 million dollars in oil overcharge funding to pay for energy projects in state facilities and low-income weatherization projects. After his second retirement, Bob remained active as a volunteer. On any given day, he could be found at the Greater Wilmington Convention Center and Visitors Bureau, giving directions and advice on local attractions.
He served on the board of the Fort Delaware Society, served as a library aid at St. Edmond’s Academy, and was a volunteer instructor for AARP’s defensive driving course. Bob drove the volunteer golf cart at Christiana Hospital and spent many years driving the care van for Ingleside Homes. In recognition of his outstanding community service, he received a Jefferson Award for Public Service, as well as the 1996 Happy Harry’s/Wilmington Trust Outstanding Senior Volunteer Service Award. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Anne (Leahy) Bartley; and his son, Michael John Bartley. Bob is survived by his sons, Robert P. Bartley Jr. and his wife, Sue, of Lewes and Vero Beach, Fla., Brian Bartley and his wife, Marilyn, of Wilmington, Timothy Bartley and his wife, Jennie Bucove, of New York, N.Y., and Terrence Bartley and his wife, Erin, of Lewes; his daughters, Maureen White and her husband, Larry, of Greenwood, Bridget Bartley of Rehoboth Beach, and Patricia Bartley Schwartz and her husband, Eric, of Wilmington; and his daughter-in-law, Yaneth Sariaslani and her husband, Morad, of Wilmington.
Bob is also survived by his 17 grandchildren: Michele Bartley, Vince White, Kimberly Petrucelli and her husband Dominick, Ryan Bartley, Michael Bartley, Theresa Bartley, Kevin Bartley, Robert J. Bartley, Sara Bartley, Margaret Bartley, Elizabeth Bartley, William Schwartz, Soraya Sariaslani, Anna Schwartz, Madeline Schwartz, Cyrus Sariaslani and Caroline Bartley.
Family and friends may call at the Doherty Funeral Home, 1900 Delaware Ave., Wilmington, from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 28. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, Gilpin Ave. and N. Union Street, at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 29. Interment will follow in All Saints cemetery.

Charles E. Thompson Jr.
World War II veteran
Charles E. Thompson Jr., 93, of Newark, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2006, at Union Hospital, Elkton, Md., after a brief illness.
Charles was born and raised in Northeast, Md., the son of the late Charles and Mary Ellen Thompson, graduating from Northeast High School, and has made Newark his home for the past 42 years. He was a longtime member of Union United Methodist Church. Charles served his country proudly as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was wounded in combat in France and awarded the Purple Heart. Charles worked in maintenance at General Motors Boxwood Road retiring in 1974.
Charles’ beloved wife of 47 years, Mildred T. Thompson, passed away in 1997. He was loved and will be dearly missed by his sons, Charles E. Thompson III and his wife, Beverly, of Lewes, and Kenneth A. Thompson of Newark; his six grandchildren, Mark and his wife, Heather, Michael and his wife, Megan, Jason, Shannon, Lindsay and Daniel; and his three great grandchildren, Preston, Sierra and Saige.
Family and friends are invited to Charles’ life celebration and viewing from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, at the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, North Dupont Highway at I-295, New Castle, where the funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the adjoining memorial park.

Ruth M. Duckworth,
retired waitress
Ruth M. Duckworth, 79, of Georgetown, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, in Lewes.
Mrs. Duckworth was born in Willow Grove, Pa. Aug. 10, 1926.
Mrs. Duckworth had worked as a waitress for 30 years at Anglers Restaurant in Lewes, 10 years at the Blue Gold Inn of Georgetown, and she was a secretary for Cooper Bearings in Georgetown for several years.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Denise Pond and Bernice Murray and her husband Britt, all of Georgetown; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; one sister Jane Leonard and her husband Leon of Warminster, Pa.; one niece and her husband and their two children.
All services are private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

Mildred Marshall Mumford,
hosiery examiner
Mildred Marshall Mumford, 90, of Lewes, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Mumford was born Sept. 6, 1915 in Lewes to the late George C. and Maude E. Tracy Marshall.
Mrs. Marshall had worked as a hosiery examiner at the former Papsiac Hosiery Mill in Lewes and as a clerk at the former Silco store in Lewes.
During World War II, she had worked as a cashier at Ft. Miles where she met her husband.
Mrs. Mumford was preceded in death by her husband Charles V. Mumford in 1976; she leaves no immediate survivors.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 11 a.m., at Bethel Methodist cemetery
with Pastor Roderick Dufour officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

James Carlton Wells Sr.
lifelong Milton farmer
James Carlton Wells Sr., 79, a lifelong Milton resident, passed away Monday, March 27, 2006, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Wells was born in Milton, son of the late Joseph S. and Lillian Nailor Wells. He was a dairy and grain farmer and had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and taking his rat terrier, Missy, for rides in his pickup truck and check the fields and farms he owned and operated in the area.
He was a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau and attended Whites Chapel Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Wells is preceded in death by two sisters, one of whom passed away at birth, and Gladys Schirmer; and two brothers, J. Nailor Wells and Paul Wells.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years,, Betsy White Wells; five sons, James C. Jr. and Dawn Wells of Milford, Gene R. and Linda Wells of Bridgeville, Gerald R. and companion Renee Dobson, Glen R. and Mila Wells and Jeffrey C. and Patsy Wells, all of Milton; a sister, Madeline Moore of Harrington; 11 grandchildren, Craig Wells, Mark Wells, Stacy Haas, Gina Anger, Jerry Wells, Lisa Fitler, Michael Wells, Michele Bailey, Matthew Wells, Kristin Wells and Derek Wells; and eight great-grandchildren, Ryan Wells, Garrett Whitney, Hunter Whitney, Sam Wells, Jenna Anger, Wyatt Wells, Sophia Fitler, Sierra Bailey and Delaney Bailey.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 30, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Whites Chapel cemetery , Milton.

Thelma Mae Winchester,
retired waitress
Thelma Mae Winchester, 72, of Rehoboth Beach and formerly of Mt. Airy, Md., died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was a retired waitress and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Avery James “Buddy” Winchester, in 2004.
She is survived by four sons, Robert James Winchester and his wife, Betty, William Wayne Winchester and his wife, Sonja, David Allen Winchester and his wife, Dana, and Jamie Calvin Winchester; two daughters, Anne Laurel Kubit and her husband, Clifford, and Rebecca Addison Fauble and her husband, James Allen; and seven grandchildren, Cassandra Mae and Michael Remsburg, Bradley James and Danneille Nicole Harrison, Elizabeth Winchester, Becky Elizabeth and Christina Mae Fauble.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be private.
