Curtis E. Harper,

Curtis E. Harper, 68, of Millsboro, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa.
Mr. Harper was born in Frankford, to the late George C. and Bessie Magee Harper on June 15, 1937.
He was the owner/operator of Harper’s Gun Supply in Millsboro for the past 35 years, retired from Delmarva Power & Light in 1993 as a relay technician after more than 28 years of service. He was a bus contractor for the Indian River School District from1969-1993. He held his private air pilot’s license from 1975-1985 and previously served in the Merchant Marines for four years.
Mr. Harper attended the Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro since 1991. He was past master of Doric Masonic Lodge 30, AF&AM, Millville, was Grand Tiler for the Masonic Grand Staff of Delaware in 1973, a member of Nur Temple Shrine, New Castle, a member and committee member of Ducks Unlimited, a life member of the NRA, a member of Delaware Wildlife Habitat, past president of the AFS, Sussex Central chapter; and was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Ian Harper in 1990, and a brother, Paul Harper.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley Ann McGabe Harper; three children, Jodie Daudt and her husband Paul of Seaford, Curtis E. Harper Jr, and his wife Stephanie of Georgetown; and Joni B. Harper of Millsboro; and five grandchildren, Joshua, Jordan and Jessica Harper and Christopher and Matthew Daudt.
Masonic services, followed by the funeral services, will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
Contributions are suggested to a charity of choice.

John C. Shade,
retired printer
John C. Shade, 88, of Bridgeville, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford.
Mr. Shade was born in Chester, Pa., the son of the late Franklin and Mary Campbell Shade.
Mr. Shade was a retired printer for the U.S. Senate Printing Office. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Word of Hope Church in Lewes.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gladys Turner Shade; two sons, John C. Shade Jr. and Franklin Shade; five daughters, Virginia McGill, Darlene Shade, Sandra Vadakin, Leila Green and Barbara Walsh; a sister, Elva Sherman; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck, with burial in the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
South in Millsboro.

Bjorn ‘Barney’ Kleveland, 75
retired merchant marine
Bjorn “Barney” Kleveland, 75, of Overbrook Shores, Lewes, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Kleveland was born in Norway and became a U.S. citizen Dec. 21, 1971.
He was a member of the Merchant Marine and retired in 1987 from Getty Oil Co. after 28 years at sea. He enjoyed waterfowl hunting and cooking. Mr. Kleveland was a member of the Lewes Yacht Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian; a daughter, Rebecca Elliott of Milton; a son and a daughter-in-law, Clark and Beverley Beck of Lewes; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Beck of Lewes.
Services will be private.

Anthony J. Lucajko Jr.,

Anthony J. Lucajko Jr., of Lewes, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005.
He was the son of Ann Lucajko and the late Anthony J. Lucajko Sr. and the husband of Arlene Robertson Lucajko.
Anthony was employed for many years by Penn Tackle & Reel before retiring.
He is survived by three daughters, Denise Burns, Dawn Cowley and Andrea Samulewicz and her husband, Phillip; he was the loving grandfather of Robert, Tyler, Kelsey, Kara, Andrew, Christian and Olivia.
A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, and 8:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at the Paul J. Karsch Funeral Home, 162-164 Cotton St., Philadelphia, Pa. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 11, at St. John the Baptist Church, 146 Rector St., Philadelphia. Burial will be in Westminster cemetery , Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

Sharyn L. Kleitz,

Sharyn L. Kleitz passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005 after battling a long illness.
Sharyn was born in Wilmington, where she met her soulmate and loving and devoted husband, John. When she was 14, Sharyn graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and then married in l973. After several moves her family settled in Lewes in l985.
Sharyn loved volunteering at school and working with kids, especially school sport teams. She was an avid Eagles and Jeff Gordon fan. Sharyn was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was loved by everyone and will be sorely missed.
Sharyn is survived by her devoted, loving husband John Kleitz of 32 years; daughter Kathryn Kleitz; and grandson John James Kleitz. Sharyn is also survived by her mother and step-father, Kathryn and Kenneth Seibert of Elkton, Md.; grandmother, Mabel L. Jones of Wilmington; her mother-in-law, Lois Kleitz of Rehoboth Beach; two brothers, Richard Gibbons and wife Donna of Elkton, Md. and Thomas Gibbons and wife Cheryl of Wilmington; three sisters, Karen Louth and husband Michael of Millsboro, Robin Roberts and husband Dick of Elkton; and Diane Bouchelle of Elkton; two brothers-in-law, Bill Kleitz and wife Diane and David Kleitz and wife Donna, all of Wilmington; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at Parsell Funeral Homes, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Pastor Jack Abel will be officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Bethel Methodist cemetery , Lewes.

Douglas D. Hanwell,
master plumber, trucker
Douglas (Doug) Donovan Hanwell, 55, of Dagsboro and Ocean View, died at 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 in his home. His former wife, Janis, and sister, Ellen, were by his side.
Mr. Hanwell was born in Neptune, N.J., the son of the late Walter D. and Elvira Vazquez Hanwell.
His family moved to Denton, Md. some years later and he and his father founded the construction company Shore East, Inc. before relocating to Dagsboro and Ocean View. After the death of his father, Doug owned and operated Navanod Trucking. Doug also was an accomplished artist and impressed many observers with his drawings.
He is survived by his former wife, Janis P. Hanwell, and his loving daughter Elise “Lacey” Hanwell, both of Lewes; his brother Walter D. “J.R.” Hanwell Jr. and his wife Thelma of Baltimore, Md.; his sisters, Ellen E. Saether of Ocean View, Lynda S. Russell of Muskegon, Mich. and Cathy G. Meszaros of Sykesville, Md.; many of nieces and nephews and many close friends.
Funeral services and burial will be private.

Robert L. Heffelfinger,
retired police chief
Robert L. Heffelfinger, 61, of Seaford, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at Milford Memorial Hospital of a longtime illness.
Born in Wilmington, Mr. Heffelfinger served in the United States Air Force and the Marine Corps. After being discharged, he worked as a law enforcement officer for 23 years, during which time he served for 17 years as the chief of police of Dagsboro, where he received certifications for K-9, drug enforcement and also the Governor’s award for heroic in the line of duty, before retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 2 and American Legion Post 24.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul.
He leaves behind a son, Timothy W. Heffelfinger, of Ocean View; two sisters, Doris McLean and Mary Weikel; and a nephew Paul Roberts of Wilmington.
A memorial service will at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at Millsboro Wesleyan Church, 255 Wilson Highway, Millsboro.

Barbara A. McBroom, 55, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 31, 2005, at home.
Mrs. McBroom was born in Newark, Md., the daughter of the late Aubrey Dennis and Carrie Truitt Dennis.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris.
She is survived by two sons, Charles and William Willey; a daughter, Wendy Longfellow; two brothers, Thomas and William Dennis; five sisters, Charlotte Truitt, Brenda Quillen, Donna Rae Parker, Sharon Brittingham and Cindy Lowe; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Thatcher Street, Frankford, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Truitt family cemetery in Powellville, Md.

Thelma D. Dennis,
retired from Beebe
Thelma D. Dennis, 75, of Lewes, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Dennis was born May 10, 1930 in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Irving and Ella Mae (Free) Schaeffer.
Mrs. Dennis had worked for the Beebe Medical Center from 1944 to 1991 beginning as a dietary technician and retiring as a nursing assistant. She enjoyed cooking and crafts. In addition, she worked as a Funeral Hostess for Parsell Funeral Homes for over 20 years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by, and will be sorely missed by, her loving husband Ralton Dennis; her daughter Charlotte Fitzpatrick of Hubert, N.C.; her sons Milton “Butch” Archer of Lewes and Kenneth Archer of Millsboro; a granddaughter, Catherine Phillips of Hubert, N.C. whom she helped raise; and six additional grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes, with burial in Union cemetery , Georgetown.

Charles William Alfred Kenworthy Sr.,

Charles William Alfred Kenworthy Sr., 89, of Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 at Spa Creek Center, Genesis Healthcare, Annapolis, Md. He was born Feb. 24, 1916 in Shanghai, China son of the late Charles Randall and Marie (Horty) Kenworthy.
Mr. Kenworthy received his bachelor’s degree in 1937 from the University of Delaware where he played on the football team and was captain of the swimming team. In the mid 1930s, he was captain of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol. In 1968, he graduated from Augusta State University with a bachelor of arts in English. He retired as a training supervisor from the DuPont Company in 1978 after 41 years of service. He loved reading, traveling and he spoke French and Spanish. In addition, he was a former vestryman of All Saints Church where he was a member. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Janet Walls Kenworthy in 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Edith K. Rivers of Annapolis, Md.; two sons, Charles William Kenworthy Jr. and Irving Randall Kenworthy both of Rehoboth Beach; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 18 Olive Avenue, Rehoboth Beach. Father Max Wolf will be officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

Theodore A. Hastings,
retired truck driver
Theodore A. Hastings, 80, of Georgetown and formerly of Milton, died Sunday, Oct. 30. 2005, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Hastings was born in Milton, the son of the late Elmer and Sally Hastings, He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. Mr. Hastings was a self-employed truck driver, retiring in 1993.
He enjoyed bowling and playing cards. He was a member of Harbeson United Methodist Church, the Endeavor Lodge 17 A.F.&A.M. and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis McIlvaine Hastings; and his sister, Beatrice McIlvaine.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael A. and Nancy Hastings of Georgetown; and three grandchildren, Kyle, Amanda and Garrett Hastings.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. market St., Georgetown, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5. Burial will be in Harbeson cemetery.
