WARD, NORMAN E.

Norman E. Ward, Age 82, of Georgetown passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, September 27, 2010.

Born in Georgetown, on April 13, 1928, he was the son of the late James and Viola Graff Ward.

He worked for 42 years in the oil delivery business for Nutter Marvel, and William Pepper. He loved rabbit and squirrel hunting.

He was devoted to his family, and was a very pleasant guy.

He was easy to get along with, good-hearted and very understanding.

He was a member of Mt. Olivet Brethren Church in Georgetown.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Kathleen V. Shockley Ward and three daughters: Debbie Ward, of Georgetown, DE; Carol Lund, and her husband Casey, of Virginia; and Patsy A. Mitchell and her husband, Wayne, of Georgetown, DE.

He is also survived by two grandsons: Chris A. Murray, and Randy R. Murray; and four great-grandsons: Colby Murray; Skylar Murray; Brock Murray; and Russell N. Murray.

There will be a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Carey's Church Cemetery on Wednesday, September 29, 2010.

Pastor Jerry Fike will officiate.

There are no public viewing or calling hours.

Flowers are welcomed, or in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice; 28467 DuPont Blvd., Suite 6; Millsboro, DE 19966.

Kelly, Jr., Michael W.

Michael W. Kelly, Jr., age 67, of Dagsboro, Delaware passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at his home. Mr. Kelly was born on April 2, 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee.

He graduated from Treadwell High School, Class of 1961, in Memphis, TN and from Louisiana State University School of Forestry, Class of 1965. Mr. Kelly retired from Perdue Farms in 2005. He had served as the Plant Manager in Salisbury, MD and Georgetown, DE and previously as a Human Resources Manager and H.R. Director. He had previously worked for International Paper in Georgia for 10 years.

Mike was happiest and at peace when on his boat on the Indian River with fishing rod in hand or just sitting in his yard feeding the birds.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Pepper Kelly, a granddaughter he raised as a daughter Savannah Rust, his mother Ruth Free Kelly of Sardis, MS, his daughter Rhonda Kemp and husband Tony of Germantown, TN, step daughter Penny Atkins of Seaford, DE, grandchildren Dede, Jennifer, Christian, and Julie, step granddaughter Cameron Morgan, and a great grandson Aidan. He was preceded by his father Michael Wm Kelly and step son Pepper Lee Rust, both in 2001.

Services will be private and at the discretion of the family.

BATCHELOR, YVONNE ELLEN

Yvonne B. Batchelor, 78, of Millsboro passed away on Sept. 25th at the Delaware Hospice Center, surrounded by her family.

Born in Salisbury, MD on July 16, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Harry S. and Mildred L. Taylor Banks.

She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where she had served as the Church Coordinator for St. Mark's Meals on Wheels Program and also was Chairperson of the United Thanks Offering.

She was a registered nurse graduating from the Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1952.

She served as a school nurse at Millsboro Public School, and the Frankford Elementary School.

In addition, she was a member of the Millsboro Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the Delaware State Volunteer Fire Association Auxiliary.

She was a member of the State Nurse's Association.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Norman F. Batchelor and three daughters: Betsy Bradley-Gilson, and her husband, Rev. Kim Gilson, of Chrisfield, MD; Norma B. Bergey, and husband Curtis, of Chesapeake, VA; and Teresa B. Osborn, and her husband, Lon, of Houston, TX. One brother: Thomas T. Banks, of Eden, MD; and a sister, Katharine B. Allen, of Mardella Springs, MD. Four Grand-children: William R. Bergey; Kristina E. Bergey; Megan Elizabeth Bradley and S. Elizabeth K. Osborn.

Services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 3rd, 2010 at 3:00 PM at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Millsboro, with the Rev. David Archibald and Rev. Kim Gilson officiating.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions either to St. Mark's Episcopal Church; PO Box 124; Millsboro, DE 19966 or to the Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriot's Lane; Milford, DE 19963.

Powell, Joan Pusey

Joan Pusey Powell, age 77, of Denver, CO, formerly of Georgetown, DE passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at the St Anthony North Hospital in Westminster, CO. Mrs. Powell was born on January 31, 1933 in Georgetown, Delaware to the late Harry and Rittie Atkins Pusey.

Mrs. Powell was a Special Needs Assistant for many years. She was born and raised in Georgetown moving to Colorado in 1977. She was a great, loving, giving woman who never asked for anything in return; she loved without fail and was totally unselfish.

She is survived by daughters Joyce A. White of Denver, CO and Rita J. Morris of Milton, DE,

son Kenneth H. White of Denver, CO, brother Paul A. Pusey of Georgetown, DE, two grandsons Christopher Harr and Kenneth White Jr., and three great granddaughters, son in law Thomas Morris of Millsboro, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends through the years.

In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband of 38 years Robert Powell in 1988, daughter Virginia A. Harr in 2000, brother Ray Pusey, sister Fayetta Jaroszewski, and three grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 24th at the Millsboro Cemetery, State Street, Millsboro, Delaware.

Jane E. Williams Barham

Jane Elizabeth Williams Barham, 61, of Hockessin, DE died suddenly at her home on April 20, 2010.

Born and raised in Dagsboro, DE, Mrs. Barham was a long-time resident of Wilmington and Hockessin. She was a graduate and valedictorian of her class at John M. Clayton High School. She also was a graduate of Goldey-Beacom College and worked as a benefits administrator for the DuPont Company before retiring in 2001 after 35 years of service. She enjoyed bowling in the DuPont leagues and once posted a team season high score of 267. She was an accomplished bumper pool player where mutual friends introduced her to her future husband Ted at Pete's Pub in 1979. As an avid sports fan, Mrs. Barham enjoyed discussing strategy with her husband and rooting for her favorite teams, especially her beloved Flyers. She enjoyed traveling with her husband while she was able and never let her infirmities dampen her spirit. Even after a knee replacement, she took pride in being able to climb unassisted the 259 steps at London's St Paul's Cathedral up to the Whispering Gallery.

Preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Hilda Hudson Williams, brother Gerald L. Williams, all of Dagsboro, DE, and her devoted canine companion, Dave, Mrs. Barham is survived by her husband of 29 years, Ted A. Barham III; step-children Ted A. Barham IV and Kristie E. Barham both of Seattle, WA; sister Linda C. Tingle of Georgetown, DE; sister- and brother-in-law, Betty Gail and William Timm of Wilmington, DE; nieces Jennifer A. (Thomas) Ford of Springfield, VA, Joanna G. Sullivan (Daniel) of Townsend, DE; and niece Angela Jane Hendricks (Nick), with whom she enjoyed an especially close and loving relationship. Mrs. Barham was also especially proud of her great-nephews Jadon Rosado, Trent and Bryce Hendricks, plus great-nieces, Samantha, Rachel, Veronica, Alexandra and Evangeline Ford, Charlotte Sullivan and great-nephews Bregan and Wyatt Sullivan.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 30 at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, DE, where visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Dagsboro Redmen's Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mrs. Barham's name to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE

Lynch, Elsie Mae

Mrs. Elsie Mae Lynch, age 102, of Gumboro, Delaware passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Atlantic Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Millsboro.

Mrs. Lynch passed just one month shy of her 103rd birthday. Mrs. Lynch was born on September 19, 1907 in Gumboro, Delaware to the late Silas and Martha Baker Wilkerson.

Mrs. Lynch was a poultry grower for Townsends, Inc. for most of her life before retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Gumboro United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lynch was a very independent businesswoman, hard working, always willing to lend a hand, and she put others needs before her own.

Mrs. Lynch was preceded in death by her two husbands George Blizzard and Clarence Oliver Lynch, four brothers, Roy, Silas, Jesse, and Manford Wilkerson, and one sister Virgie Long. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, August 24th at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior. Pastor Bob Hudson will officiate the service. Interment will follow at the Line Church Community Cemetery, Whitesville, Delaware.

Truitt, Ira R.

Ira R. Truitt, 89, of Milton passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at his home in Milton, DE. Ira was a beloved Sussex Countian with an astonishing career of having served nearly 40 years as a rifleman in the Combined Region 4, VFW Honor Guard, participating as a volunteer in hundreds and hundreds of funerals of veterans receiving Military Honors. Ira was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Phillipines and nearly lost his life in Okinawa when a 600 lb. boulder smashed his foxhole after an artillery hit. Ira had sneaked out of the foxhole to get a cup of coffee, when suddenly the shell hit, triggering a massive rockslide. Ira received several medals, including American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and most importantly the Phillipine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars. He enlisted and served in the Army from 1939 until 1945 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He never forgot his obligation to his fellow soldiers, and served in the VFW Honor Guard unit, as a Charter Member, only missing 4 funerals he was called to serve in. Despite battling prostate cancer, bone cancer and diabetes, and living on a fixed income - he continued to show up. On one occasion, Ira collapsed with low blood sugar and an ambulance was called just prior to a funeral. Ira was revived, and refused transport to the hospital so he could perform his duty, which he did. He continued to serve, wielding his WW II era rifle up to his death. Ira will be featured in a chapter of a book to be released in July, 2011.

He was born on Feb. 6, 1921 to the late James and Mildred Bradford Truitt in Willards, MD. He was married to the love of his life, Margaret Peterson who preceded him in death in 1994, after 54 years of married bliss. Together they had run a chicken farm for Townsend's for 50 years, and Ira was their oldest farmer when he retired. He was a member of the VFW Posts in Millsboro, and Milton and had served as a fundraiser for the VFW Ambulance Squad. He was a member of both Grace United Methodist Church and Zoar United Methodist Church. He was an honorary member of the Indian River Senior Center.

He is survived by his daughter, Darlene "Joy" Smith, and her husband Leslie. He is also survived by his brother Melvin, and sisters, Mary Alice Mumford, Janet K. Ketterman, and Loretta. Four grand-children: Tammy, Luray, Kim and Mike; Six great-grand-children: Heather, Tommy, Tina, Timmy, Kyle and Robert; Nine great-great-grand-children: Stacy, Amanda, Mikey, Dominic, Lianna, Matthew, Nathan, Chance and Morgan. He is also survived by many extended family members, and friends and neighbors and all those who he claimed as his fellow comrades in the VFW.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded by his son Marvis, and 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

A Celebration of Ira's Life will be held on Thursday, August 19 at 11:00 AM at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, where friends may call for one hour prior. Interment will be in Carey's Cemetery, where Ira will receive full military honors by his colleagues from Region 4 Honor Guard.

Yvonne Violet Lee Garrison Parker

Yvonne Violet Lee Garrison Parker, daughter of the late Norman and Ruth Garrison departed this life on July 28, 2010 at the age of 74. She was born in Pungoteague, Virginia on April 29, 1936.

"Vilee" received her education in the public schools of Accomack County Virginia, and later attended Del-Tech Community College in Georgetown, De. She was employed by the NCR Company in Millsboro, De for many years, later becoming a homemaker.

"Vilee" accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Selbyville, DE attending for a number of years.

"Vilee" was a well-known lady for love, her beauty, her style, her cooking, her shopping at thrift stores, and more, not to mention her joyful and outspoken manner.

"Vilee" loved her grandchildren, watching them and yelling, watching….and yelling at they continued to call "Granny Granny!" She had a passion for helping the well being of others.

"Vilee" later met Terry Parker and they were united in marriage. The two enjoyed their life together and were inseparable.

Preceeded in death by one brother Francis Garrison, one Great Granddaughter Carneisha Garrison, two Great-Grandsons, Trey J. Goodman Jr. and Markez J. Garrison Jr.

"Many fond memories of Vile" will remain with her husband Terry Parker, four brothers, and one sister; Norman Garrison Jr. of Dover Delaware, Gene Garrison (Glenda) Salisbury, Maryland, Charles Garrison (Ruby), Brooks Garrison (Grace), and Ann Williams all of Frankford, Delaware.

Three sons and six daughters, Donald Garrison (Mat) Wendy Bowen, of Seaford, Delaware, Connie Garrison, Robbin Thompson (Doug) of Bridgeville, De. Violet Handy of Selbyville, Delaware, Joseph Garrison (Van) of Frankford, Delaware Earl Garrison of Georgetown, Delaware Valerie Garrison of Wilmington, Delaware, Kim Peed (Lamaine) of Newport News, Virginia, two step daughters Diana Anderson and Terri Dent of Gates, North Carolina, twenty-eight grandchildren, fifty-four great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday August 6, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Calvary Pentecostal Church Rt 113 Bishopville, Maryland, where friends may call from 11-1. Interment will be in the Church Cemetery. Bishop James Johnson will officiate. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to: Select Hospital 701 North Clayton Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19801.
