John M. Zeigler

Age 89, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

Born in Red Lion, PA, Mr. Zeigler was the son of the late John M. and Anna May (Billinger) Zeigler. He served his country proudly in the US Navy during World War II, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Patrol. He was a graduate of Drexel University. Later, he worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware, and retired from the DuPont Company as an accountant after over 30 years of service.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 64 years, Theresa (Hughes) Zeigler; his sons, John M. of Wilmington and Peter H. of Newark; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and David Lindemer of Lewes; and two grandchildren, Christina and Matthew.

Zeh, Marian Elizabeth

Marian Elizabeth Zeh passed away Friday, February 13, 2009 at Bayhealth Medical Center in Dover, DE. She was 85.

Ms. Zeh was born March 19, 1923 in Calverton, NY, daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Zeh. She was preceded in death by her brothers Elmer, Roger, and Winfred Zeh. She is survived by her brother, Gerald Zeh and his family of Middletown, DE and Richard Zeh and his family of Calverton, NY.

Ms. Zeh was a 6th grade teacher for over 30 years in Uniondale, NY. She was a world traveler sometimes taking family members with her. She was a distinguished artist. She enjoyed painting watercolor pictures and attending art shows. She was very talented as an artist but she also loved to play the piano. She was a downhill ski racer, winning many medals and she also skied in many countries around the world. She enjoyed going down to the Long Island Sound to swim and spend time at the beach house. She returned home to the family farm in Calverton after retirement to help her brothers. She loved to work in her flower garden and take care of all of the cats that strayed onto the property. Ms. Zeh never married but she had many nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own. She later moved to State Street Assisted Living in Dover, DE. She made many friends during the short time she was there. She enjoyed sitting and chatting with them each day. Her wonderful sense of humor will be missed very much.

Services will be at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY, where viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Riverhead Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made in her name to your favorite organization.

Local arrangements are by Faries Funeral Directors and Crematorium, Inc. 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

Gordon B. Zdana, 71

Viola - Gordon B. Zdana of Viola passed away peacefully in his home on August 24, 2008.

He was born April 21, 1937 in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, to the late Jack and Marion (Bennett) Zdana. Gordon served his country proudly in the United States Air Force serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired as a Master Printer at SAC Headquarters in Omaha

Nebraska. Gordon was a paid up for life member of Walter L Fox Post #2 serving as Commander and various other offices. He was a life time member of the Camden-Wyoming VFW Post 3238. He served proudly on the Fox Post 2 Post Memorial Team and was Chef de Garre in the 40 et 8. He also held many positions in the 40 et 8 as well.

He is survived by his loving wife of many years Irene Zdana; daughters Cathy Snyder of Woodside and Cheryl Zdana of Felton; grandchildren Christopher Zdana of Morrisville, North Carolina and Mary Olson of Woodside.

Friends may call 6-8pm, Friday August 29th at Trader Funeral Home in Dover. Services will be held 11am Saturday August 30th at the funeral home.

Zeccola, Jr., Michael A.

Michael A. Zeccola, Jr., 56, of Wilmington, died at his residence on Friday, March 23, 2001.

Michael worked for the News Journal in the Information Technology Department for the past 34 years. He attended St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, MD prior to graduating from Salesianum School in 1962, where he received various religious awards. Michael was a member of the Delaware National Guard for several years in the mid 1960's. Michael taught CCD classes at St. Patrick's Church in Wilmington for the past 25 years and enjoyed working with many of the children in the parish. He enjoyed spending his leisure time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed travelling to Nevada and reading and studying history, particularly religious history. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite McDermott Zeccola in 1987.

He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Ruth Ann Zeccola; his sons, William D. Chrisco and Michael E. Zeccola, both of Wilmington, and Brad W. Murphy of West Chester, PA; two daughters, Karen E. Davis of Carson City, NV and Stephanie Kern of Honeybrook, PA; a sister, Marlene Pell of Cape May, NJ; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 27 at 10 am at St. Patrick's Church, 15th and King Sts., Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Monday evening between 6 pm and 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Patrick's Church, 1414 King Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Zawislak, Vivian B.

DOVER - Vivian B. Zawislak of Dover died Monday, August 25, 2003 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 77.

She was born in Clarksburg, WV on January 11, 1926, daughter of the late Virgil and Mary (Slominski) Bork.

Mrs. Zawislak had worked at Playtex retiring in 1986.

She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Dover, Monday Nite Women's Bowl League of Brunswick Bowl and the Thursday Morning Mixed League of Dover Bowl.

She is preceded in death by her husband John S. Zawislak.

She is survived by five children John Zawislak of North Attleboro, MA, Ted Zawislak and his wife Carol of Mountainside, NJ, Valerie Kindel and her husband Roger of W. Orange, NJ; Tom Zawislak and his wife Priscilla of Landenberg, PA and Nancy Robinson and her husband Kevin of Dover, a brother Walter Bork of Felton and a sister Wanda Zimansky of Felton, 10 grandchildren Carrie Zawislak of Newton, MA, Jay Zawislak of Ridgefield Park, NJ, Amy Zawislak of Lewiston, ME, Jacob Zawislak Joshua Zawislak, Jamie Zawislak all of Mountainside, NJ, Christopher Zawislak and Jonathan Zawislak both of Landenberg, PA, Heidi Kindel of W. Orange, NJ and Daniel Robinson of Dover.

Friends may call 7 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Camden-Wyoming Lions Club Eyesight Fund, c/o Camden-Wyoming Lions Club, P.O. Box 246 Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934 or to the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, P.O. Box 186, Camden-Wyoming, DE 19934.

Zayack, Stanley

Stanley Zayack, 85, Parker Chapel Road, Marydel, passed away Thursday September 27, 2007 at his home with family Dover.

He was born on January 01, 1922 in Passaic, NJ to late John and Katie Volak Zayacz.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Marydel, MD He was a US Navy veteran of W W I I. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Zayack, Brother, Josephine Auerbach.

He is survived by Sisters, Florece Nemeth, Tessie Colombo, Sister in Law, Julieann Kadas, And Nieces & Nephews.

Remembrance Services will be held Thursday 10/04/2007 11:30 AM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE Burial will be at the Thomas Chapel Cem. Chapel town, DE

Friends may also call Thursday 10/04/2007 from 10:00 AM till time of the service at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

Oral R. Van Buskirk

Age 78 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Van Buskirk worked for the DuPont Company's Experimental Station as a research engineer for 44 years before his retirement in 1995. During World War II he served his country in the Army Air Force. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Legion, Post 4. His wife, Virginia (Nelles) Van Buskirk, predeceased him in 2003.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cory and JoAnne Van Buskirk of Loveland, OH; his grandchildren, Kate Zimmerman and her husband, Mike, and Mark and Eric Van Buskirk; and a great granddaughter, Paige Zimmerman.

Private funeral services were held for the family. They suggest contributions to a favorite charity in Mr. Van Buskirk's memory.

Van Aken, Jr., Arnold L.

Mr. Arnold L. Van Aken, Jr. age 58, of Hockessin, DE died suddenly Thursday, April 25, 2002 at home. The son of Agnes and the late Arnold Van Aken, Sr., he was born in Yonkers, NY on November 14, 1943. Mr. Van Aken was a graduate of New York University and Stevens Institute of Technology. He was a chemical engineer for 28 years with the Dupont Company prior to his retirement in 1993. Throughout his life, he was an avid angler, Civil War enthusiast, painter and music collector. He was active in Hockessin Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary Allan, a son, Tom and his wife, Deanne, daughters, Cindy, Susan, Sandy Sarah, and son, Adam, sister Alice Poyta and family of Albany, NY, as well as two grandsons, Matthew and Michael. He will be fondly remembered for his love of life and laughter and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Friends are invited to call Monday evening, April 29th between 6 and 8 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, DE. Funeral service will be held at Hockessin Baptist Church on Schoolhouse Road, Hockessin at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 30th. Immediately following services, internment will be at the Friends Cemetery in Hockessin, DE. Memorial contributions may be made to Hockessin Baptists Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Delaware, 2306 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19805.
