Stephen Edgar Batzel

Age 54, of Middletown, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Scranton, PA, Stephen was the son of Edgar and Virginia (Morgan) Batzel. He was a self-employed civil engineer and owner of Lazy B Construction Company. He served his country in the US Army Reserves. In his leisure time, he was a private pilot and a scuba diver.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Edgar and Virginia Batzel of Middletown; three sisters, Brenda Lee Batzel of Middletown, Cynthia E. Chalfant of Newark, and Sharon Landry of Townsend; his fiancée, Jayne Terranova of Wilmington; three nieces, three nephews and a great niece.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Friday, December 17th from 5 to 7 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware SPCA, PO Box 6067, Stanton, DE 19804.

Judith M. Andrews

Age 69, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Born in Wilmington Judith was the daughter of the late John W. and Henrietta W. (Brown) Kendall. She worked as a unit clerk at Christiana Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Thomas M. Andrews; her children, Thomas J. Andrews and his wife Stacey of Newark, Jill Marie Ryan and her husband Andrew of Bear, and Robert W. Andrews and his wife Toni; her brother, John W. Kendall of New Castle; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 13th at 1 PM at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2225 DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the National Kidney Foundation of Delaware Valley, 111 S. Independence Mall East, Suite 411, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Shirley E. Walls

Age 74, of Frankford, DE, passed away at Beebe Medical Center on Thursday, January 6, 2011.

Born in Wilmington, Shirley was the daughter of the late Willard and Nellie Walls. She worked as a research technician for the DuPont Company, retiring from Chestnut Run at the age of 55.

She is survived by Abby and Penny and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 11 AM. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Lillian M. Flanigan

Age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at Wilmington Hospital on Friday, January 7, 2011.

Born in Wilmington, DE, Lillian was the daughter of the late John and Katherine (Hofferica) Kasak. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School where she was class secretary and a member of the Leader Corps. Other memberships included Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge. She enjoyed baking, especially her famous brownies, and sun worshipping. Her husband of 54 years, Felix J. F. Flanigan, predeceased her in 2001. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Anna McVeigh, Katherine Gary, Josephine DelCampo, Margaret McMahon, and Eleanor (Nepa) Daney.

She is survived by her son, Michael Flanigan and his wife, Beverly of Edgewood, MD; her daughters, Colleen Newcomb and her husband, John of St. George, ME, Patricia Flanigan of Wilmington, and Lisa Marconi and her husband, Thomas of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Joseph Flanigan, Christine Zinman (Jack), Johanna (John Clamme), Amanda and Luke Newcomb, Sam (Christine Kane), Joe, Adam and Haley Hirzel, and Michael, Peter, Twoey and Madeline Marconi; and three great grandchildren, Anna, Noah, and Charlie Zinman.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Arden Courts and Wilmington Hospital for their compassionate and dignified care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 10th at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Shipley and Weldin Roads, Wilmington where friends and family are invited to visitation after 9:30 AM. Entombment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.

James Joseph Beyel

Age 89, of Marshallton, Delaware passed away at Christiana Hospital on Friday, January 21, 2011.

Born in New York City, NY, Jim was the oldest son of the late Gertrude and Irving Beyer. Serving in the Army as a sergeant from 1939 to 1945 as a medic, he was stationed at Fort DuPont. After 25 years of service with the Chrysler Corporation, Jim enjoyed travel and theater.

Survived by his loving partner, Roy W. Tressler; brother, Harold and wife Tina; sister, Barbara and husband Gerry, both of Long Island; sisters, Cora Smith and Sadie Bockman of Wilmington. He was preceded in death by siblings, Gertrude Deideshemier, Joseph Beyel, Raymond Beyel, RoseMarie Schnittker.

A special thank you to Kenneth Corrin, MD and staff for their constant care and friendship.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28th at 1 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 12 noon. Interment will follow at Lower Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville, DE.

Joanne (Diego) Moore

"Babci"

Age 52, of Middletown, DE, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2011 at home with her husband by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. In the years and days preceding her death, she was always surrounded by family and friends.

Joanne graduated from Conrad High School and was co-owner of Moore's Cabinet Refinishing with her husband, John, for the past 35 years. She was very active in the M.O.T. Soccer League when her children were young, serving as secretary for several years. She and John formed the first all-girls soccer team (Manza) in the community. For the past 2 years, she was very active in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Middletown and was the top fundraiser both years. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, vacationing in St. Maarten with John, spending time at the beach and, most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren: Ella, Calise, Jake, and Nate.

Joanne was predeceased by her parents Stella and Anthony Diego. She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, John; her children: Jennifer (Wagner) and her husband Dan, Michael and his wife Emily; her beloved grandchildren; her sister Stella Desmond and her husband Michael, her brothers: Stan Kaczur and his wife Sally, Peter Diego and his fiancé Beth, Anthony Diego and his wife Darlene; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A special thanks to Michele Smith of Delaware Hospice for her compassion and support.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 29, at Mealey Funeral Home on Limestone Rd, Wilmington, DE. Visitation will be at 11 am followed by services at 1 pm.

"Dee"

Dee Grant, 51 of Newark, DE. passed away peacefully on December 13th, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.

Dee leaves behind her best friend and husband, Ralph, of Newark precious daughter Lacey (BJ) Smith of Philadelphia, PA and the light of her life, granddaughter Chloe as well as a host of other family and friends Services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, December 19th at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Rds Wilmington, DE.

Myers, Linn McDanel

Linn McDanel Myers, 68, a one-time steel marketing representative and most recently an electronic service representative, died of metastatic lung cancer November 7, 2010 at his home in Newark, Delaware.

Linn was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania to Fredrick Linn and Josephine Bausman Myers. He was the beloved husband of Becky Myers.

Linn received a degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Over the years, he enjoyed golf, personal training, dancing and cruising. Linn touched the lives of many with his infectious smile and helping hand. He maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way until the end.

He will be remembered by his wife, Becky of Newark, Delaware; his step-mother, Anna Mae Myers of Englewood, Florida; three children with his first wife, Cheryl; Todd Myers, of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Monica Jones, of Boulder, Colorado and Kyle Myers of Sellersville, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren Casey and Riley Myers, his sister, Beth Lins, and his step-brother John Stafford along with other family and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the Limestone Presbyterian Church located at 3201 Limestone Road in Wilmington, Delaware. The service will take place on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19810.
