Paul R. Jarrell
April 11, 1932 - January 10, 2011
Age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at his home on Monday, January 10, 2011.
Mr. Jarrell retired from the Wilmington Fire Department in 1977. He also retired from the Division of Motor Vehicles. He was a Korean War Veteran. On October 5th, 1952 he was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry-in-Action. He served with the US Army and the United States Marines. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen M. Jarrell in 1990, his sister, Dorothy Owens of Wilmington in 2006 and his brother Edward Jarrell of Lewes just last month.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Shank of Newark and her family; his brothers, James W. Jarrell of Florida and Ronald Jarrell of Milford; his sisters, Roberta Bendistis of Milford and Sandra Bates of Milford.
Friends and family are invited to visitation on Wednesday, January 19th between 2 PM and 2:20 PM at the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear where funeral services will begin at 2:20 PM. Squillace, Joseph M
Joseph M. Squillace, 78, of Wilmington, DE passed away on November 26, 2010 in Chadds Ford, PA after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Squillace was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Victor and Adele(Merrone) Squillace. He attended Temple University before being called to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was an entrepreneur owning several businesses, but was best known for his salon in Newark, Joseph & Jay.
He was a former member of St. Catherine of Siena and was involved in many aspects of CYO life, including Athletic Director, Gym Teacher and Coach. He coached CYO from 1969-1987. During this time he held office as President of the Basketball Coaches of Delaware and was named Outstanding Coach two years in a row. He moved on to coach basketball at McKean High School for 12 years which included winning a championship.
Joe is survived by his children(spouses), Victor Squillace (Chrissy), Gina Harrison(Jim), Lisa Casale(Bruno) and Joleen Grider, his 14 grandchildren; his 2 great-granddaughters and the mother of his children, Joy.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center with special thanks to Dr. Charles Schneider, Dr. Jon Strasser and family physician Dr. Joseph Loughran.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 10:30AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ninth and DuPont Streets, Wilmington, where friends may call after 9:30AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made on behalf of his granddaughter Alexa, to MECA (Mission for Educating Children with Autism), 115 Washington Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335.
Doris R. Commons
Age 83, formerly of Rochester, NY, passed away December 28, 2010 after a long illness. She is survived by her daughter, Jayne A. Terranova of Wilmington, with who she lived; two sons, Greg R. and Brian A., both of Rochester, NY; and three grandsons, Bradley, Andrew and Philip Lehman, all of Wilmington.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Compassionate Care for the kindness shown during this time. A special thanks to Gigi Cameron whose exceptional care will never be forgotten. Services will be private. Marian C. Bednarek
Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on her birthday, Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Foulk Manor South.
Born in Coatesville, PA, Marian was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Elizabeth (Scharek) Bednarek, her brother, John, and her sister Dorothy Bonk. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for Star Color Press and McHugh Electric until her retirement. She was a member of St. Hedwig's Church.
Marian is survived by her sister, Alma Leonard of Florida; and four nephews, Bob and Jack Pierce and Bernard and John Bonk.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 18th at 10 AM at St. Hedwig's Church, Linden and S. Harrison Streets, Wilmington. There will be no calling hours and interment will be private.
Lloyd "George" Hoilman
Age 79, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 surrounded by family and his fiancée.
Born in Bakersville, NC, George was the son of the late Fred and Ellie Mae Hoilman. He retired from Hoilman's Used Cars. Previously, he worked in delivery at Brandywine Auto Parts. His wife, Rutha (Wyatt) Hoilman, predeceased him.
He will be missed by his children, Wilma Jean Burgess of Spring Hill Florida, Betty Mae Mangini of Newark, DE, Rosemarie Manzi of Smyrna, DE, Roger Dale Hoilman of Avondale, PA and George Lee Hoilman of Spring Hill Florida; 8 grandchildren, Teresa, Krystina, Dustin, Melissa, Gina, Ren, Dillon and Carly; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Hoilman of North Carolina, Oscar Hoilman of North Carolina; a sister, Kate Schoran of Maryland; his fiancée Margaret Moore of New Castle, DE and numerous friends.
A Memorial Luncheon will be held on Saturday, January 22nd at the Elsmere Fire Hall in Elsmere Delaware from 12:00pm until 2:00pm. Friends and relatives are welcome to come and pay their respects.
Karl A. Schneider
Age 78, of Newark, DE, passed away at Christiana Hospital on Monday, December 27, 2010.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Karl was the son of the Arthur and Greta (Kellner) Schneider. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a baker for Steinley's and Sweeney's before he worked for Air Products as a truck driver for 21 years before his retirement in 1994. A member of the NRA, he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. His hobbies included a knife making business.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Florence C. (Frazer) Schneider; his daughter, Carol A. Krammes of Elkton, MD; his son, Karl "Bill" Schneider of Newark, DE; two grandchildren, Danielle and Kyle Krammes; a great grandson, Gavin Krammes; a brother, Gottlieb R. Schneider of Mountain Home, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 8th at 11 AM at Free Will Baptist Church, 4519 DuPont Parkway, Townsend, DE where friends are invited to visitation after 10 AM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association, 1021 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.
Louise A. (Rich) Pitrizzi
Louise A. Pitrizzi, age 79, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2010.
The daughter of Dominick and Ida (Vitelli) Rich, Louise was a lifelong resident of Wilmington. She was a 1949 graduate of P.S. DuPont High School, and worked in the payroll department of the Electric Hose & Rubber Company in Wilmington, until she left to start her family.
Louise was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, and a caring and giving friend to many. Her greatest joy was spending time with her beloved family. She also enjoyed regular lunch dates with her high school friends, affectionately known as "The 49-ers". She loved to cook for her family and friends, and enjoyed watching her daily soaps (which she called her "stories") and Wheel of Fortune.
Louise is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Paul; their daughters: Diane Graham (& husband Lew) of Newark, DE, Linda Smith (& husband Roger) of Elmer, NJ and Jeanie Blair (& husband Sam) of Newark, DE; her sisters: Lorraine Talmo (& husband Franny) and Mary Ann Morash (& husband Anthony), both of Wilmington; her brothers: Joseph Rich and Alfred Rich, both of Wilmington; her grandchildren: Austin Smith of Elmer, NJ and Renee Graham Epperson (& husband Chuck) of Newark; and great-grandchildren: Tyler and Nicole Epperson; and her many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Louise was predeceased by her brothers: Dominick Rich, Jr. and John Rich.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 26th at 11 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington, where friends are invited to visitation after 9 AM. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
George A. Adams, Jr.
Age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, November 19, 2010 at Manor Care Health Services on Foulk Road.
Born in Wilmington, George was the son of the late George A. and Cecilia (McMonigle) Adams. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. He worked as a sheet metal worker and later as a custodian for Claymont School. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary T. McClafferty and his brother, John Q. Adams.
He is survived by his son, George Adams of New Jersey; his granddaughter; and his brother-in-law and caregiver for the past 15 years, William J. McClafferty III of Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 24th at 12 noon at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 North Broom Street, Wilmington where friends are invited to visitation after 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
