Gillespie, Martha
Martha Gillespie, of Clayton, DE died on Wednesday December 22, 2010 at age 99.
She was born November 14, 1911 in New York City. Her parents, Emil Schrom and Martha Kandler Schrom, had emigrated in the early 1900's from Austria and Germany, respectively.
She found employment in business and medical fields in New York, Pennsylvania, and then in Delaware, in public health as a State of Delaware employee. Upon her retirement in 1977, she continued her interests in travel, gardening, the culinary arts, and homemaking.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Schrom, and a sister, Margaret New.
She is survived by her son and caregiver, Victor Soreny, of Clayton; her son Philip Gillespie, of Townsend; a grandson, Stephen Soreny, of Richmond, VA; a great-grandson, Matthew T. Soreny, of Richmond, VA; a brother, E. Randolph Schrom, of New Port Richey, FL; nephews, Gerard Schrom, of Drexel Hill, PA; and Joseph Schrom, of W. Babylon, NY; nieces, Mary Lou Pennington, of Maple Glen, PA; Kathryn Shaffer, of Camden-Wyoming, DE; and Linda O'Kelly, of South Burlington, VT; and several grand-nephews and grand-nieces.
Cremains will be buried in Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Peace Lutheran Church, 5048 Wheatleys Pond Rd., Smyrna, DE 19977.

Blades, Mildred A. (Tieman)
Mildred A. (Tieman) Blades, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at the age of 95. Her children, Margaret A. Larkin and N. Ralph Tieman were at her bedside at her home in Fox Pointe, Cheswold, Delaware. Mrs. Blades was born in Wilmington, Delaware on Novemeber 11, 1915 to Charles W. and Mary A. (Derrickson) Shannon. She lived in Smyrna, Delaware until retiring to Fenwick Island, Swan Keys, Delaware. In her later years, she returned to Kent County to be closer to her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson S. Tieman and her later spouse, M. Paul Blades. Mildred's brother, Charles Ralph Shannon, her sister, Frances Shannon McNeal, a niece, Mary A. Shannon and her beloved daughter-in-law Linda Tieman also preceded her in death.
Mildred is survived by her son and daughter; a brother, Donald D. Shannon and his wife Jeannette; grandsons: Roger L. Tieman, Wm. Barry Larkin and his wife Sandra, and David Scott Larkin and his wife, Victoria; grandaughters Carla A. Schwarz and her husband Douglas, Donna E. Brennan, Melissa D. Stansell and her husband Tom, and Erin M. Tieman. In addition she is survived by ten great grandchildren and four step great-grandchildren and their families, six great-great grandchildren, three nieces, and four nephews.
Mrs. Blades was director of Social Services for the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronic Ill for twenty-one years before retiring. She was then employed by the Fenwick Beach Shops for thirty-one years before retiring again at age 81. She loved to dance and give parties for her children. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends at her home at Swan Keys near Fenwick Island. Her greatest pleasure was living near the beach.
The family wishes to personally thank Ms. Lillian Curry for her absolute devotion to our beloved mother and grandmother as well as the wonderful services of Delaware Hospice for their compassionate care. In addition, she was cared for by her granddaughters Carla Schwarz and Erin Tieman.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, near Frederica, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901. Following the services and burial, any flower arrangements will be sent to the Delaware Home and Hospital for the Chronically Ill.

CORNELIA E. LAMBORN
(Aunt Connie)
Cornelia E. Lamborn (Connie), or Aunt Connie as she was known to so many, passed away peacefully at Manor Care, Wilmington, DE, on August 14, 2010. Connie was born in Cheyney, PA. She owned and operated Connie's Beauty Salon in the Rambelton Acres Shopping Center for many years before retiring. Throughout her long life, Connie loved traveling, Rehoboth Beach, fishing, crabbing and playing cards with family and friends. Connie was devoted to her husband, sons, grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She adored her faithful companion, Rocco.
In addition to her parents, Connie was predeceased in death by her husband, Edward Lamborn; her daughter-in-law, Rolena Pennington-Busby; and her sisters, Adeline, Anna, Caroline, Jenny, Mary, Philomena, Rose, and Theresa; and her brother, Joseph.
Connie is survived by her son, Lewis Busby; stepson, James Lamborn (Kathy); grandsons, Shannon and Zachary Busby and Stephen Heater; granddaughter, Jessica Charlton; and great-granddaughter, Tiffany Charlton. In addition, she leaves behind her long-time friends Rosemary Andervich, Mary Bernstein, Della Freeman, and Vera Mundell.
Friends may call on Friday, August 20th from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Rd., Bear, DE 19701. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered immediately thereafter. Burial will be held in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and doctors of Manor Care, Foulk Road and her niece, Frances Russo for the extraordinary care, kindness and compassion they showed to Aunt Connie during the final chapter of her life.

Lane, Hackett William
William Lane Hackett, Sr., 66, of Wilmington and Port St. Lucie FL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Craig Steelman Hackett and Edith (Phillips) Hackett Wagner. He was a graduate of Olney High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and he was a member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Judith Stewart.
He was the founding member and head professional of the Delcastle Golf Club for over 38 years. Some of his many accomplishments include winning the Philadelphia City Golf Championship at age 16, 1972 Delaware Open Champion, President of The Delaware Golf Club Management Corporation, Numerous Philadelphia PGA Section Event Championships and Top Finishes, Competed and Excelled in the Nationwide (Nike) Golf Tour and Senior Series Golf Tour and his Legacy as one of the area's top instructors; mentoring many of the areas premier golfers, is unmatched. He was a Class A PGA Life member. Known as "Wild Bill" by his close friends and family, Bill will be remembered among his close circle for his passion for life, his open and loving heart, his determination, his great sense of humor and always being there for those closest to him. Most important to him in his life was the love that he showed to his wife, children and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret L. "Peggy" (Cummins) Hackett; his daughters and their husbands, Megan Louise Harris and Mark of Sykesville, MD and Mindy Lane Karahan and Volkan of Port St. Lucie, FL; his son, William Lane Hackett, Jr. of Wilmington; his grandsons, Hunter Stephen and Hogan William Harris; his brother, Craig Steelman Hackett, Jr. and his wife, Belva of Newtown, PA; his step-father, Edmund Wagner of Newtown, PA and numerous nieces and nephews

Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road at 12 Noon, where friends may call from 10 to 11:30 AM. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Paul R. Jarrell
April 11, 1932 - January 10, 2011
Age 78, of Wilmington, DE, passed away at his home on Monday, January 10, 2011.
Mr. Jarrell retired from the Wilmington Fire Department in 1977. He also retired from the Division of Motor Vehicles. He was a Korean War Veteran. On October 5th, 1952 he was awarded the Silver Star for Gallantry-in-Action. He served with the US Army and the United States Marines. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen M. Jarrell in 1990, his sister, Dorothy Owens of Wilmington in 2006 and his brother Edward Jarrell of Lewes just last month.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Shank of Newark and her family; his brothers, James W. Jarrell of Florida and Ronald Jarrell of Milford; his sisters, Roberta Bendistis of Milford and Sandra Bates of Milford.
Friends and family are invited to visitation on Wednesday, January 19th between 2 PM and 2:20 PM at the chapel at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear where funeral services will begin at 2:20 PM. Squillace, Joseph M.
Joseph M. Squillace, 78, of Wilmington, DE passed away on November 26, 2010 in Chadds Ford, PA after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Squillace was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late Victor and Adele(Merrone) Squillace. He attended Temple University before being called to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He was an entrepreneur owning several businesses, but was best known for his salon in Newark, Joseph & Jay.
He was a former member of St. Catherine of Siena and was involved in many aspects of CYO life, including Athletic Director, Gym Teacher and Coach. He coached CYO from 1969-1987. During this time he held office as President of the Basketball Coaches of Delaware and was named Outstanding Coach two years in a row. He moved on to coach basketball at McKean High School for 12 years which included winning a championship.
Joe is survived by his children(spouses), Victor Squillace (Chrissy), Gina Harrison(Jim), Lisa Casale(Bruno) and Joleen Grider, his 14 grandchildren; his 2 great-granddaughters and the mother of his children, Joy.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center with special thanks to Dr. Charles Schneider, Dr. Jon Strasser and family physician Dr. Joseph Loughran.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 10:30AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ninth and DuPont Streets, Wilmington, where friends may call after 9:30AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made on behalf of his granddaughter Alexa, to MECA (Mission for Educating Children with Autism), 115 Washington Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335.
Doris R. Commons
Age 83, formerly of Rochester, NY, passed away December 28, 2010 after a long illness. She is survived by her daughter, Jayne A. Terranova of Wilmington, with who she lived; two sons, Greg R. and Brian A., both of Rochester, NY; and three grandsons, Bradley, Andrew and Philip Lehman, all of Wilmington.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Compassionate Care for the kindness shown during this time. A special thanks to Gigi Cameron whose exceptional care will never be forgotten. Services will be private. Kathryn Ann Lawrence
(nee Bohner)
Passed away on July 2, 2010, attended by her family.
A life-long resident of Wilmington, "Kitty" received an Associates Degree in Secretarial Science from Penn Hall (now Wilson College) and retired as an executive secretary from DuPont. She met her husband William, a fellow Dupont employee, on the golf course, a sport they enjoyed together for many years.
She was preceded in death by William and her brother, Dr. Charles Henry Bohner. She is survived by her daughter Jane Silvetti of Morgan Hill, CA, her son John Lawrence of Cochranville, PA, her nieces Chris and Kate Bohner, her nephew Rev. Russell Bohner, grandchildren Brett and Brooke Silvetti, and grand-dogs Bella, Coco, Merle, Clifton, and Apollo.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720 or the ASPCA, PO Box 6067, Stanton, DE 19804 would be appreciated. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
