Machulas, Linda L.

Linda L. Machulas 57, of Felton, formally of New Egypt and Philadelphia died Wednesday October 17, at Kent General in Dover, DE.

Linda was born and raised in Philadelphia. Later moved to Jackson and then New Egypt where she spent the most time.

In New Egypt, she dedicated her life to her family. She also worked at the school, was American Legion volunteer, and chapter President of Deborah Heart and Lung. Many may remember her at Scott's Market where she worked a while.

In Felton, Linda farmed mostly and spread her care and love for the people around her, and the animals she had. She was a manager at the Goose Creek store. There she had many friends like Rose Bradley to whom she would talk about her grandkids to.

Daughter of the late Warren and Emma Pennell. Surviving is her companion Harvey Baker of Felton, DE; sons Alan Pennell, Charles Machulas, and John Machulas, and grandkids Taylor and Dean Pennell. Linda has sisters Barbara, Doris, Sissy, and a brother Sonny. She will be missed by many.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. November 3, 2007 at Bible Baptist Church, 8 Magnolia Ave. New Egypt, NJ 08533. (609) 758-7667.

Maciejeski, Sr., John J.

John J. Maciejeski, Sr., 82, of Wilmington, died at his residence on Thursday, February 1, 2001.

Mr. Maciejeski was a machinist for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 18 years and later worked for Spitz-Space Systems for 28 years retiring in 1980. A Naval veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Maciejeski was a member of St. John the Beloved Church, and, as a hobby, he enjoyed making clocks. His brother, Chester Maciejeski, predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (Timko) Maciejeski; a son, John Jr., of New Castle; a daughter, Evelyn Shaver of Houston, TX; five sisters, Stella Kowalski of Wilmington, Helen Kowalski of Claymont, Theresa Kwiatkowski of Newark, Dorothy Sherbinko of Wilmington and Joanne Martone of Selbyville; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 am at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Saturday morning between 8:30 and 10:00 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Rds., Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington, DE 19808.

Maas, Lt. Col. Ret. Roy Francis

Lt. Col. Ret. Roy Francis Maas of Camden died at home on Saturday, April 28, 2007. He was 82.

Roy F. Maas was born on January 23, 1925 in Ishpeming, Michigan, son of the late Louis and Violet Irene Maas. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan as the oldest of seven children.

Lt. Col. Maas was a pilot for the United States Air Force and met Daphne` Ann Davis in a record store while stationed in San Antonio, Texas. They wed December 22, 1945.

Lt. Col. Maas was a pilot through many U.S. conflicts, most notably the Berlin Airlift and the Korean War. He holds the record for the most logged flying hours in a C-124. He was stationed around the U.S. until moving his family to Delaware in 1955. He raised his family here and retired after 22 years of service in 1965.

He and his wife owned and operated The Mud Palace, a local ceramic shop, from 1965-1975.

Roy joined the Ombudsman Program in 1995 after his wife of 49 years passed. He received several awards including 1998 Governor's Outstanding Volunteer Awards.

His family will miss his quick wit, charming smile and great laugh. He was known for his puns and his jokes (some cleaner than others!). He was strong, persistent and always "the Colonel".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Daphne` Ann Maas and his sisters Betty Jean and Maryland.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Pamela Ann and Edward N. Magee, his son Cameron Allen Maas, Sr., his granddaughter and her fiancé Dawn Dene` Mehaffey and Thomas W. Read, Jr., his grandson Cameron Allen Maas, Jr. and Cameron Jr.'s mother Gale Maas, his great granddaughter Noel Ilene Majka, three brothers Roger, Louis and Kenneth Maas and Violet Ilene, and his care giver Katina Freeman-Hallett.

Services to be private.

Arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

MacCartney, Frances Hurley

Frances A. Hurley MacCartney of Bridgeville died Wednesday January 1, 2003 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. She was 74.

Mrs. MacCartney was born December 7, 1928 in Chichester, Pennsylvania to the late Albert E. Austin and Susan Virginia Barto Austin.

She worked in the Comptroller Office of the Kent County Levy Court. She was also employed by General Foods as a keypunch operator, Suburban Propane, Delaware Department of Transportation and Playtex. She served as a Kent County Republican Committee Person.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Alden Hurley, 1985.

She is survived by her husband of 2 years Harry Paul MacCartney of Bridgeville; a daughter, Sharon Dee Reed and her husband Herman of Dover; a sister, Ruth Moore of Canterbury; 4 grandchildren, Melissa Brown of Clayton, Holly K. Rarrick and her husband Michael of Corning, NY, Michael L. Brown of Rehoboth, Jeffrey Brown of Elkton, MD; 2 great grandsons, Michael and Tanner Rarrick. She is also survived by; 2 step children and their spouses George and Elizabeth MacCartney of Aston, PA and Harry and Donna MacCartney of Barrington, IL.

Funeral Services will be 11 AM Saturday, January 4, 2003 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 South Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call 1 hour prior. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, North State Street, Dover, DE.

MacFarland, Freda Marie

Age 73

of Frederica, DE

Died at: Christiana Medical Center, Wilmington, DE.

Mrs. MacFarland was a housewife who enjoyed raising and caring for her family, and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Frederica. She loved flowers and animals, especially birds. She will be remembered as a very good mother and grandmother and a friend to all the neighborhood children.

Preceded in death by her parents - Harry S. and Marie Dodd.

Survivors: She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James M. MacFarland Sr. of Frederica, two daughters, Bonnie C. Keller and husband Larry of Frederica and Donna L. Cox and husband Allen of Frederica, two sons, James M. MacFarland Jr. and wife Sally of Frederica, and Charles E. MacFarland of Frederica. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Kevin MacFarland of Milford, Lisa MacFarland of Frederica, Sharon L. Wyatt of Newark, Amy M. Wyatt of Newark, Gary Humphrey Jr. of North Carolina, and Autumn Dill of Milford, and 3 great grandchildren, Brea Ann MacFarland, Ariel Dill, and Hunter Dill.

Services:

Tuesday, January 30, 2001 1:00 PM - Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington

There will be a viewing on Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.

Pastor Sam Ingram of Frederica First Baptist Church will officiate.

Internment will be at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.

Lafferty, Eugene M.

PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA-- Gene Lafferty, 43, of Palm Springs, CA, died October 2, 2006 at home with his parents and friends at his side.

Gene, loving son, brother, uncle, and friend, was born November 22, 1962 in Philadelphia, the second son of Frank and Pat Lafferty, now of Dover.

He attended St. Francis de Sales School in Philadelphia, Divine Word Seminary High School in Bordentown, NJ, and Divine Word Seminary in Epworth, IA. He worked many years in the Development Office at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL before moving to Palm Springs. His latest job was with Gunthy-Renker in Palm Desert, CA in the accounts receivable department.

Gene enjoyed the California sun, riding his motorcycle, and country music.

He is survived by three brothers: Frank, of Quinton, NJ; Kevin, of Swedesboro, NJ; and Stephen, of Fairbanks, AK; and four sisters: Patty, of Canmer, KY; Terry, of Dover; Merceda, of Aberdeen, MD; and Maureen, of Hershey, PA. Several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and too many friends to count also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover, where the family will receive friends one hour before services.

Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover followed by a reception in Holy Cross Hall.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions in Gene's name may be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, or Holy Cross Catholic Tuition Assistance Fund, 631 S. State St., Dover, DE 19901.

Local arrangements are by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.
