Park H. Benedict, Jr.
Age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2006, at Heartland Hospice House.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Benedict was the son of the late Park H., Sr. and Catherine E. (Haynes) Benedict. During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne Division and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He retired from the Philadelphia Bulletin where he was a supervisor in the accounting department for 46 years. He also retired from Delaware County Community College, where he worked in the accounting department. Mr. Benedict was a member of the Clifton Heights United Methodist Church. He was an avid bowler and golfer and recorded a hole-in-one.
His wife of 50 years, Virginia Mae (Dreamer), predeceased him in 1992. Mr. Benedict is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen L. and James R. Gallagher of Hockessin, DE; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Rita Benedict of Springfield, PA; his grandchildren, Kimberly Moses, Michael and Dana Gallagher, Christine, Ronald, Jr. and Kimberly Benedict; and great grandchildren, Jordan, Michael, and Bailey Moses. Also surviving are his siblings, Kathryn Johnson, Mary Lange, Claire Jackson, and James Benedict.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 15th, at 6 pm at Clifton Heights United Methodist Church, 113 S. Springfield Rd., Clifton Heights, PA. Internment will be private.

Nathalie F. Cordes
Age 88 of Wilmington, DE, died Thursday, June 8, 2006, at home.
She was born December 1, 1917, daughter of the late Hedwig and Julian Podhajski. She was a graduate of Grand Rapids Diocese High School. She earned her associates degree from Catholic Junior College (now Aquinas College), her bachelors degree from Western Michigan Teacher's College (now Western Michigan University) and her masters degree in Library Sciences from Villanova University. Mrs. Cordes taught business courses at Grand Haven High School in MI. She served as a Girl Scout co-leader in the mid to late 1950s and a Cub Scout Den mother in the mid to late 1960s. She volunteered at the Wilmington Public Library for 20 years. She handled the training programs for libraries in the schools of the Wilmington Diocese. Mrs. Cordes organized and implemented the expansion of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) School library from a few hundred to over 10,000 books. She staffed the IHM library with volunteers with annual recruiting. She received certificates of appreciation from The Wilmington Library, Immaculate Heart of Mary Library and the Catholic Diocese Education Department. She married
her husband, Walter J. Cordes, on September 7, 1943.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Therese VanEenennaam Bou-man of Grand Rapids, MI; her daughter, Nathalie F. Schiller of Oregon, IL; her sons, John W. Cordes of Crofton, MD and Andy J. Cordes of Raleigh, NC; and her 2 grandchildren, Michael A. Cordes and Jaime A. Cordes. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Monsignor Joseph Podhajski; and her sister, Harriet Cordes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday morning, June 14, at 10:30 am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Liftwood. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, on Tuesday evening, June 13, from 6-8 pm and on Wednesday morning at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church from 9:30-10:30 am.

Lorell Elise Funke-Davies, 46, Oakton, VA, died Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Born in Elkton, MD on December 6, 1959, she was the daughter of Richard E. and Sandra Reynolds Funke, Elkton, MD. A 1977 graduate of Elkton High School, she was a history major at Franklin & Marshall College, receiving her degree in 1981. Mrs. Funke-Davies married
and moved to VA in 1984 where she had a successful career in banking and then dedicated herself to her children.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband of 21 years, Edward C. Davies; children, Ashley and Colbey, at home in Oakton, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Matthew G. and Nancy Funke, Elkton, MD and Barton and Andrea Funke, Earleville, MD; and grandmother, Ruth G. Funke, Elkton, MD.
Funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday, June 13, at Elkton United Methodist Church, 219 E. Main St., Elkton, where visitation will begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Cherry Hill Methodist cemetery, Cherry Hill, MD. Memorial service will be held 1 pm Wednesday, June 14, at Old Presbyterian Meeting House, 323 S. Fairfax St., Alexandria, VA.

Peter J. Giunta
Age 81 years old, of Wilmington, DE, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at his home.
Born January 10, 1925 in West Chester, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph Giunta and the late Jeannie Lucchetti Giunta. He was a Quality Supervisor for Wyeth Labs of West Chester and Great Valley for 32 years. Peter attended West Chester High School then transferred to Malvern Preparatory School his senior year and was quarterback of the football team. He graduated from West Chester University with a B.S. in Health Sciences. Peter was a WWII Navy Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre and received the Purple Heart. He was an avid golfer, and was a member of Penn Oaks Club. He attended annual golf outings in Myrtle Beach and had a collection of golf balls. Peter was an amateur photographer, played in local tennis matches and enjoyed playing cards. He was a member of the Italian Social Club of West Chester, the Wilmington YMCA, and the Men of Malvern Retreat House. He was also a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Wilmington, DE.
Surviving are 2 brothers, Arkle J. Giunta of West Chester, PA and Frank P. Giunta of West Chester, PA; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great grandnieces, great grandnephews; and Mary Lach, his companion of 20 years, of Wilmington, DE. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Nicholas Giunta; and 1 sister, Rose Giunta Paparelli.
Relatives and Friends are invited to his Funeral Mass 10 am Thursday, June 15, 2006, at St. Agnes Church, 233 W. Gay St., West Chester, PA. Viewing Thursday from 9-10 am at the church. Interment will be in St. Agnes cemetery, West Chester, PA.

Gary J. Hagerty "Pud"
Age 52, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2006, with his loving wife by his side.
Gary was a heavy equipment operator for David P. Roser, Inc. for 32 years. He was a member of the Hockessin Fire Co. and the Hockessin VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and carpentry, was a Phillies and Flyers fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR with his family and friends. He was a loving and devoted father to Jack and Kevin and had many friends too numerous to mention. Anyone that has ever worked with Gary knows it was his way or no way, for he was truly a perfectionist in all he did when helping his friends and family. Gary will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Diane Brown Hagerty, his sons, Jack and Kevin; his brother, David Hagerty of New London, PA; his mother, Frances E. Hagerty of Hockessin, DE; his half sister, Iva Iovacchini of Dover, DE; and his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Frances Brown of Lewes DE.
The family would like to thank all of our friends and family for their kindness and generosity during his illness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the committal service at 11:30 am on Wednesday, June 14, at Hockessin Friends cemetery, Old Wilmington Rd., Hockessin. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 4 pm at the Hockessin Fire Hall, Lancaster Pike and Yorklyn Rd., where friends may call after 2 pm.

Staff Sgt. Darren P. Harmon, Sr.
Age 44 of Newark, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 3, 2006, in Haditha Iraq.
Darren was born on May 28, 1962 in Wilmington, DE to Fisher and Barbara Harmon. He received his education in Delaware public schools, graduating from William Penn High School in June 1980. Shortly after graduating from William Penn, Darren enlisted in the Unites States Army. Darren felt compelled to go back to the U.S. Army Reserves. The military was his true calling. He wanted to complete his service. Darren joined Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in 1997, where he sang along with his father on the Mass Choir.
Darren leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Crystal H. Harmon of Newark, DE, whom he affectionately called "My Baby"; his mother, Barbara May Harmon of Newark, DE; his father, Fisher Prattis Harmon and wife, Shirley, of New Castle, DE; 4 children, Darren Prattis Harmon, Jr. of Germany (U.S. Army), Devon A. D'Andre and Domonique C. Harmon, all of Erving, TX; a stepdaughter, Venus Holland of Philadelphia, PA; 2 sisters, Terese H. Roberts of Bear, DE and Portia L. Harmon of Wilmington, DE; a stepsister, Tamera Jones of MD; 1 brother, David Harmon of Wilmington, DE; a stepbrother, Christopher Partin of New Castle, DE; 1 grandson, Jayden A. Harmon of TX; 3 step-grandchildren, Gerelle, Taylor and Nasir Holland of Philadelphia, PA; 1 uncle; and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Russell Clyde Hastings
Age 59 of Laurel, DE, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Milford, DE to his father, the late Clyde D. Hastings, and his mother, Mildred R. of Laurel, DE. He was a grain and livestock farmer on his farm in Laurel, DE.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Ann Hastings of Laurel, DE; a son, John "Michael" Hastings and his wife, Susan, of Laurel, DE; a daughter, Krista Records and her husband, Chris, of Delmar, DE; a brother, Clarke Hastings of Laurel, DE; a sister, Virginia Hickman of Dover, DE; his grandchildren, Marcus Hastings and Erin Hastings of Laurel, DE and Holly Records and Jackson Records of Delmar, DE; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his pet bulldog, Lucy.
