William John Conrad Amend
Died Tuesday, June 27, 2006.
He was born in Des Moines, IA on June 16, 1907 to Clara Voss Amend and William John Amend. Mr. Amend was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Property and Music committees and as a Sunday school teacher. He had the leadership role in establishing the first PTA at Shortlidge School in 1947. Mr. Amend was a graduate of Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He received his Chemical Engineering Professional Degree from Columbia University. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta social fraternity, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Mu Epsilon and Sigma Xi honorary societies and a member emeritus of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Mr. Amend was in the chorus of the Brandywiners for several plays during the 1930s. He was a member of the Breck's Mill Cronies. He had been a member of the DuPont Country Club since 1929 and was a former member of the Board of Governors serving as Chairman of Grounds and Golf committees. During his tenure, the Nemours course was constructed. He also served on the first Board of Governors of the Seaford Country Club as Chairman of Grounds. His compelling hobby of growing fruit trees made him a self-styled pomologist. The DuPont Company employed Mr. Amend in 1929 at the Experimental Station in the Central Chemical Department to make and test new organic compounds for possible commercialization using catalytic and high-pressure synthesis. With the Ammonia Department in 1934, he was part of a group effort that developed significant pioneering processes for the commercial production of nylon intermediates. In 1940, Mr. Amend headed an Engineering Technical Assistance group at the first nylon plant in Seaford, DE. In the Engineering Department as Design Project Manager, Mr. Amend was responsible for many nylon and Dacron facilities; the Cape Fear, North Carolina Dacron plant was the last one before his retirement in 1970 after 41 years of an exciting career with thanks to everyone who helped along the way.
His beloved wife, Catherine Broad Amend, predeceased him on February 17, 2004. He was also preceded in death by a grandson. He is survived by 3 children, Elizabeth A. Ashby of Longwood, FL, Catherine A. Slocum of Tucson, AZ and Dr. William J.C. Amend of Burlingame, CA; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren all dearly loved him.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at 2 pm in the Cokesbury Village Auditorium. Burial will be private.

James F. Beckley, Jr.
Mr. James F. Beckley Jr., age 78, of New Castle, DE, died on Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at his home.
Born in Chester, PA, Mr. Beckley was the son of the late James F. Beckley, Sr. and Laura Elizabeth Jones Beckley. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy Seabees during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. An operating engineer by profession, he was employed with Petrillo Brothers for 30 years before retiring in 1991. Mr. Beckley was an accomplished carpenter and shipwright throughout his life, and in his later years, greatly enjoyed crafting finely detailed model ships.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Beckley was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise, in 1949; and a grandson, Steven, in 1993. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Louise R. Emmertz Beckley; their son, James F. Beckley, III and wife, Beverly, of New Castle, DE; a brother, T. George Beckley and wife, Judith, of Port Deposit, MD; 2 sisters, Agnes G. Kleimann of Millsboro, DE and Geraldine P. Sachetta and husband, William, of Millsboro, DE; grandson, James F. Beckley, IV and wife, Kimberly, of New Castle, DE; and 3 great grandchildren, Brandon, Jordan and Michael Beckley.
The funeral service will be held privately.

Kevin P. Britt, Sr.
Of Wilmington, DE, age 41, departed this life suddenly on Saturday, June 24, 2006.
He was born July 1, 1964 in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late John S. Britt, Sr. and Ella E. Britt
He leaves to cherish fond memories 2 sons, Marlow Carter and Kevin P. Britt. Jr.; a stepdaughter, Marrain Carter, the mother of his children, Macheko (Marcie) Carter; stepmother, Beatrice Purnsley; 5 brothers, Arnold N. Service will be 9:30 am on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at The House of Wright Mortuary, 208 E. 35th Street, Wilmington, DE. Viewing will be Saturday from 8-9:30 am. Interment Silverbrook cemetery.

Nicholas Raymond Gochnour, 18, of Elkton, MD, died June 27, 2006.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Tami Gochnour and Paul Chevres; brothers, Christopher Gochnour, Josh and Devin Chevres; and his maternal grandmother, Michele Harris Gochnour, all of Elkton; his maternal grandfather and step grandmother, Jay and Charlotte Gochnour, Newark, DE; and uncles, Timothy Gochnour Bear, DE and Todd Gochnour, Elkton.
Visitation will be held 6-8 pm, Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at HICKS HOME FOR FUNERALS, 103 W. Stockton St., Elkton, MD 21921. Interment will be private.

Genevieve M. Jablonski
Age 82, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2006.
Her husband, Anthony J. Jablonski, died in 2003. She is survived by 2 children, Tristian M. Jablonski and his wife, Teresa, of Aston, PA, and Diane Magaw and her husband, Randall, with whom she lived; and 2 grandsons, Tristian and Matthew.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2006. at 11 am at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road, where family and friends may call after 10 am. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.

Lucy H. Barnes
Lucy Hazen Barnes, age 89, died July 1, 2006 at ManorCare, in Pike Creek.
She was born in Mystic, CT, daughter of Frederick A. and Eliza Chapman Barnes. She attended Northfield - Mt. Herman School, Connecticut College, and graduated with a degree in medical technology from Temple University.
Most of her working career was with the DuPont Company as an x-ray technician at various locations. An avid genealogist, she was a member of several lineage societies including Cooch's Bridge Chapter, NSDAR, The National Society Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America, and the National Society of New England Women.
Lucy is survived by several nieces and nephews, with whom she enjoyed a warm relationship.
There will be no viewing or memorial service. Interment will be in the family plot at Elm Grove cemetery, in Mystic, CT at the convenience of the family.

Theodore D. Boone "Ted"
Theodore D. "Ted" Boone, age 90, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Christiana Hospital, in the presence of his loving wife and loving family.
Ted was born May 2, 1916 in Wilmington, DE to Irvin J. Boone and Emma F. Stapes Boone. He was in the army during WWII, starting September 2, 1942. His military occupation specialty was a rifleman 745. His docorations and citations issued were the American Theatre Ribbon, the European African Medal ribbon, the Good Conduct medal, the Purple Heart ribbon and medal, and the Victory medal. Ted was wounded in May 1945. He saw combat in Germany, France, England and Belgium. Mr. Boone was discharged from the 83rd infantry in 1945. Ted worked for 14 years at Delaware Floor, in Wilmington, and then worked for NVF for 20 years, retiring in May 1981.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 6 years, Marie E. Harrison; his sons, Theodore W. Boone, and his wife, Maria, of San Jose, CA, and Ricky Boone, and his wife, Kim, of Wilmington; and his daughters, Linda Wright, of Wilmington, Renée Kenny, and her husband, Steve, of Wilmington, and Betty Schabla, and her husband, John, of Wilmington. Survivors also include his sister, Helen Naumann, of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Ted was predeceased by his first wife, Betty L. Boone, in September 1990, after 48 years of marriage; and his granddaughters, Lindsay S. Johnson and Tracey R. Foulker.
A celebration of Ted's life will be held at 11 am on Friday, July 7, in the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Kirkwood Hwy. & Duncan Rd., where family and friends may call after 10 am. Burial will follow the service, in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
The family of Mr. Boone would like their friends to take the time and express their gratitude to all the veterans that have served and defended this great country of ours.
