Richard P. Conner
Age 66, of Wilmington, DE, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at home.
He worked as a clerk for over 30 years for Acme, and enjoyed going to Delaware Park.
He is survived by his sisters, Joan Dembkowski, of Bear, DE, and Doris Lee, of Glendore, NJ; a brother, William Conner, of Port Richie, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am, in Gracelawn cemetery, on Thursday, May 17.

Anne Gates Copley
Age 85, of Jennersville, PA, died on May 9, 2007.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 14, 1921, Anne was the daughter of Hoagland Gates and Margaret Mackey Gates. She attended Tower Hill School and graduated from Tucson High School in Arizona. She graduated from Ohio State University in 1943 and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. A Red Cross Driver in WWII, Anne volunteered most of her life for a number of organizations including Winterthur Museum and Wilmington Hospital (now Christiana Care). She also volunteered for 27 years at the Cecil County Historical Society, where she served as a Director. An avid genealogist, Anne did research for people on many local families, and wrote a genealogy book about her own family, the Mackeys. She was an active member of the Colonial Dames of DE and the Mayflower Society of DE. She was particularly interested in history and architectural preservation and did research on buildings for the National Historic Register in Maryland. Through the Jenner's Pond lecture series, she shared her extensive knowledge about the history of the Mason-Dixon line. She also enjoyed her love of horses, sailing and art with her family and friends. Anne lived at Broadlands, a Jersey farm in Cecil County, for 55 years and later at Merestone, an historic house divided by the Mason-Dixon line. Anne enjoyed being active at Jenner's Pond the last 3 years of her life.
Anne was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Harold E. Copley; and her sister, Elizabeth Gates Gibson in 2005. Anne is survived by her daughter, Phyllis C. Machledt and her husband, Dr. John Machledt of Easton, CT; her son, David H. Copley and his wife, Colleen of Pasadena, MD; granddaughter, Katherine Pelletier and her husband, Stan and 2 great-grandchildren, Madelaine and Sam, of Ellsworth, ME; grandson David Machledt of Tucson, AZ; granddaughter Lisa Copley of Roanoke, VA; grandson Benjamin Copley of Linthicum, MD.
A memorial service will be held at Jenner's Pond on Saturday, June 2, at 11 am.

Harry H. Corless
passed away at home after a courageous battle with lung disease on Thursday, May 10, 2007.
Harry was born on October 6, 1928, in the village of Coppull near Manchester in northern England. He graduated from Liverpool University in 1949 with a B.Sc. in Engineering. He completed a post-graduate apprenticeship at Leyland Motors from 1949 to 1950. After serving in the British Army, he answered a newspaper ad that turned into a job in the engineering department of Britain's Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). He was quickly promoted and moved up the ladder at ICI over the next two decades, and in 1976 was offered a job as Vice President of Strategic Planning for ICI Americas in Wilmington, Delaware. Though he was only supposed to stay three years, Harry convinced his wife to remain in America, and was promoted to President and CEO in 1982. Under his leadership at ICI, sales grew from $1 billion to $4 billion annually by the time he stepped down as Chairman in 1989. While his decision to retire took many by surprise, he offered that if President Reagan could finish his job in eight years, so could he. Despite declarations that he would pursue a second career in the arts, Harry's business success earned him a seat on numerous boards in the private sector and with philanthropic organizations throughout the US. He served on the boards of Winterthur Museum, the Grand Opera House, Chorale Delaware, the NALCO Chemical Company, Delaware Trust, Meridian Bank, Uniroyal, Inc., and the advisory boards of Centreville School and The Independence School. He spent 26 years as a trustee of Christiana Care, a tenure he recently recalled as his most rewarding professional experience. He served as Chairman of the Board of Christiana Care from 1989 to 1991 and Chairman of the Trustees from 1991 until 2006. He received a multitude of professional distinctions and awards including the award of the International Palladium Medal for outstanding contribution to the chemical industry in 1987 and an honorary Doctorate of Science from the University of Delaware in 1988. He and his wife, Jean became United States Citizens in 2002. While he was successful in his professional career, Harry loved his family above all else. His sharp intellect, inquisitive nature, personal charisma, and sense of humor truly made him a one-of-a-kind that no one will easily forget. He loved playing golf, spending time at the house he built with his wife in Chadds Ford, and bringing his extended family together as often as he could.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Jean of 54 years; a loving brother to his sisters, Dorothy, Mary and Jeannie; a wonderful father to his children, son, Tim and his wife, Ann, of Upper Saddle River, NJ; daughter, Vicky Yatzus and her husband, Andy, of Newark, DE, and son, James and his wife, Diana, of Oakland, CA; and an adoring grandfather to his 7 grandchildren, Katie, Alexander, Erin, Haley, Sophie, Viva and Harry.
Friends and colleagues are invited to a celebration of his life and legacy on Friday, May 18 at 3 pm, at the Wilmington Country Club, 4825 Kennet Pike, Wilmington, DE.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, that donations be sent to either Christiana Care Health System, 13 Reads Way, Suite 203, New Castle, DE 19720; or to the Harry H. Corless Memorial Scholarship Fund at Centreville School, payable to Centreville School, 6201 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807.

Margaret "Peg" Harney
Age 76, of Lewes, DE, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Lewes, where she was a resident for the past 12 years. Mrs. Harney passed with her husband by her side who went to care for her 3 times each day.
She was born September 20, 1930. She retired from the banking industry in 1994 as a training teller.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Pat Harney; sister-in-law, Eileen Leonard, of Falls Church, VA; 3 sister's-in-law in Ireland and 1 sister-in-law in England. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Fr. Peter Harney.
Patrick would like to thank everyone at Harbor Healthcare for their devotion and wonderful care.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 15, at 2:30 pm, at All Saints cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

Leonard F. Johnson
Age 105, passed away at his home in Wilmington, DE, on Saturday, May 12, 2007.
Born in Danbury, CT, on April 19, 1902, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of 72 years, Gertrude M. Gore Johnson. Mr. Johnson was retired in 1962 from his position as a Chief Engineer for the Department of Public Works for the City of New York. While working in NYC, he resided in Staten Island, NY with his wife and family. They enjoyed seeing Broadway shows and famous Big Bands. He and his wife lived many years in their retirement home, which he built in 1964 on S. Quaker Hill in Pawling, NY. They enjoyed organic gardening, bird watching, ballroom and square dancing, traveling, playing bridge and spending time with their family. Later in their retirement, the Johnsons moved to Wilmington, DE. Leonard was a life-long New York Yankees fan and shared with his family fond memories of watching Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio. Leonard loved eating ice cream and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. He was very devoted to his faith and spent many hours studying scripture.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Frances Johnson and his older brothers, Frederick, Albert and Robert Johnson, all of Danbury, CT. He is survived by his daughter, Lois M. and son-in-law, Gordon J. Rathbone, of Hockessin, DE; and his son, Elmer E. Johnson and his wife, Pat of Venice, FL. Survivors also include his grandchildren, Alan Johnson, of New Tripoli, PA, Donna J. Rathbone Jones and her husband, Fritz Jones, of Pike Creek, DE, Sally Johnson Dzamko, of Sandy Hook, CT, Gail Johnson Tobin and her husband, Stephen Tobin, of Ridgefield, CT, Barbara Rathbone-Frank and her husband, Michael E. Frank, of Strasburg, PA and Terry Johnson, of New Milford, CT. He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren, Marianne McKenney Zecher and her husband, Craig Zecher, of Wilmington, DE, John W. McKenney, III and his wife, Yvette McKenney, of Bear, DE, Amber Johnson Kemp and her husband, Chris Kemp, of Topton, PA, Josh Johnson, of Mertztown, PA, and Stephen and Dana Tobin, of Ridgefield, CT. Mr. Johnson will also be greatly missed by his 6 great-great grandchildren.

Joseph Gibboney Malone
Age 83, of Newark, DE, died on Saturday, May 12, 2007, with his wife of 59 years, Shirley by his side. After suffering a stroke in January while on vacation in FL, he returned to Delaware and was currently residing at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center.
Mr. Malone was born in Hollidaysburg, PA, on June 9, 1923 to the late Joseph E. Malone and Josephine Gibboney Malone. He graduated from Penn State University in 1952 and remained an avid football fan, having season tickets for many years. He served in the US Coast Guard during WW II and rode horseback guarding Ocracoke beach and then served in the Pacific Theatre from 1942 - 1946. He worked for DuPont as an Accountant in the Film Department for 22 years. He was a published poet as well as a great athlete. His poem "Alpha" was published in the Colors of Life poetry book. He was a semi-professional basketball player in the 1940's and was picked by the Brooklyn Dodgers as a pitcher, but entered WWII, and after developing malaria was unable to pitch. He later coached pony league baseball.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Malone, of Newark, DE; 2 daughters, Kathy Roff, of Newark, DE, and Bonnie Favero, of Collinsville, VA; a son, Michael Malone, of Fayetteville, NC; a sister, Betty Richwine, of Manchester, PA; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and many life-long friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert E. Malone and a sister, Janet E. Wineland.
Service will be held at 10 am, on Wednesday, May 16, at R. T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where friends may call after 9:30 am. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery in Bear, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvert Manor Resident Council Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o funeral home.
