Julia A. Butkus

Mrs. Julia A. (Krupski) Butkus, 89 of Wilmington, DE, peacefully joined the Lord on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 surrounded by those who loved and cared for her.

The daughter of the late Achim and Martha (Eroshenko) Krupski, who were of Russian decent, Julia was born in Pittsburgh, PA. She was married to Vincent Butkus, who departed us in 1979. Together they raised their 3 children, 2 sons and 1 daughter, in Swarthmore, PA. Julia had many talents. She was a dress designer, an avid gardener and drove a school bus for special needs children. She was very active in her church, Notre Dame de Lourdes in Swarthmore, PA and spent many hours volunteering her time at the Mariners Center. She loved to vacation in Ocean City, MD, where she was well known and quite a fisherman. Julia was a very active and independent woman until she took ill in 2001. At that time she was taken into care by her only and loving daughter, Carole, who had dedicated every moment to making sure she had the best care. Julia was a humble person in life and never had the opportunity to enjoy the finer things in life. Carole strived and helped her mom to experience things in life she would have never allowed herself to do. Julia was a strong-minded individual who fought all the way to the day of her passing. For those who took the time to know and understand her, they loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by all that were active in her life. Also, we are thankful for the memories we have to share. Life has taken Julia through many hardships and now she will be taken by the hand of the Lord and enter the Gates of Heaven where she will now rest in peace. One of the greatest joys in death will be when she is greeted by Mary, the mother of Jesus, whom she worshipped and prayed to every day of her life.

Surviving her is her dedicated daughter, Carole Bothell, who cared for her, and her husband, John of Hockessin, DE; her 2 grandchildren, Julie Bothell of Newark, DE and Chris Bothell of San Diego, CA; and 2 great grandchildren, Ryan and Matthew Bothell, who were active in her life. Respectively, she had 2 sons; their 4 children; and 5 additional great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Greenville on Monday, November 12 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Monday from 9-10 am.

Donations in memory of Julia Butkus may be made to the Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilm., DE 19808.
