Angela D. Fortugno Antonio
Angela D. Fortugno Antonio, age 86, passed away on Thursday October 16, 2008 at Churchman's Village, with her family by her side.
Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, during WWII she was an inspector at Dravo shipyards. Later, she devoted her life to home and family. She enjoyed bowling and also became a golfer with some success. She also enjoyed travels to Europe, cruises, and winter trips to Florida. She was an avid Phillies fan and would never miss a game. She loved having her family around her for holiday celebrations. Her outlook on life was always positive and she never complained.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Antonia and Consolato Fortugno; her husband of 62 years A. Arthur Antonio; her daughter Susan Antonio Jolly; and her brother Phillip Fortugno. She is survived by her son, Arthur J. Antonio and his wife Trudy; her sister Jenny Maisano; and grandsons, Steven Antonio, Michael Antonio and William Jolly; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at 11:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th & duPont Sts, followed by burial in All Saints Cemetery. Calling hours for Mrs. Antonio are also Tuesday morning from 9:30-11am at the CORLETO LATINA FUNERAL HOME, 808 N. Union Street, Wilmington, DE.
David A. Thomas
Of New Castle, DE, age 57, passed away on Sunday June 29, 2008, in the Hillside Center in Wilmington.
Born in Wilmington, DE, the son of the late James R. Thomas who passed away in 1987. David was graduate of McKean High School and attended Delaware Technical Community College. Mr. Thomas had been employed with the Artesian Water Co., retiring after 30+ years of dedicated service.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted mother, Ruth C. (Lunt) Thomas; siblings, Paula Thomas, and her companion, Jackie Palmer, of New Castle, DE, James D. Thomas, and his wife, Lisa, of Felton, DE; uncle, Retired Major Ira Lunt, and his wife, Peg, of New Castle, DE.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 2, at 2 pm, at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 2, from 1-2 pm. Burial will be in the Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, DE.

Suzanne I. Baylis
passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008.
She was a Homemaker and part owner of The Wayside Inn and Sail Loft in Delaware. She was a loving mother, friend and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Larney and his wife Maureen; her daughter, Leslie; and by grandchildren, Cassie, Tommy, Marsha, Ryan and Brice. Her husband, Thomas passed away in 2001 and her son, Michael passed away this past March in 2008.
Services and interment will be private.

Joan Colleen Waters Smoot, 38, of Warrenton, VA died on October 9, 2008 at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, VA.
Joan was born in Wilmington, DE on March 10, 1970, the daughter of Timothy Waters of Lewes, DE and Carrie Barr of Martins-burg, WV. She had worked as a Contract Specialist for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
In addition to her parents she is survived by her husband, Mark Gideon Smoot and son, Garrett Gideon Smoot of Warrenton, VA; stepmother Helen Waters, Lewes, DE; stepfather, Gale Barr, Falls Church, VA; sister, Stephanie Waters, Alexandria, VA; brother, John Waters, Martinsburg, WV and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 13, 2008 from 3-5pm and 6-8pm at Moser Funeral Home, 233 Broadview Ave., Warrenton, VA where services will be held at 11am Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Interment will be private in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, VA.

Franklin W. Whaley, Sr.
Age 95, of Newark, DE, formerly of Claymont, DE, died at the Millcroft Nursing Home on Thursday, October 9, 2008.
He was born November 4, 1912 in Laurel, DE to Oliver and Bessie Whaley. He raised his family in Claymont, DE where he worked and retired from Phoenix Steel.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Virginia (Pyne) Whaley, a brother, Emery, and his sisters Ruth Pollett and Beulah Bryan. He is survived by a brother, Oliver Whaley. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Marylou Fearin and husband Tom, Gerry Burroughs and husband Jack, and Lee Majewski; his sons, Franklin, Jr. and wife, Phyllis, Kirk and wife Darlene and Dale and wife Bernice; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and his best friend Ralph Dove and friends of Churchmans Village.
Funeral services will be held at the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. Dupont Parkway, New Castle on Tuesday at 2 PM where friends are invited to visitation after 1 PM. Interment will follow in the cemetery.
