Clancy, Jr., William J.
William J. Clancy, Jr. Age 71, of Newark, DE, died Monday April 9, 2001 at the Christiana Hospital. Mr. Clancy grew up Newark, DE and as a teenager worked with his father at the State Theatre on Main Street in Newark. Mr. Clancy served in the US Navy during 1948-1952. After serving in the Navy he went to work for the DuPont Company and retired in 1986 after 33 years of service. Mr. Clancy then went to work for the National Elevators Inspection Services until he finally retired in 1994. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lifetime member of the Newark Historical Society. Mr. Clancy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy L. Clancy of Newark, a son and his wife William J. and Sharry Clancy, III also of Newark, a daughter, Frances Ann Clancy, of Newark, 3 brothers, John Daniel Clancy of Middletown, DE, James Francis Clancy of Christiana, DE, and Richard Michael Clancy, of Newark, DE, and 2 granchildren, Kelly E. and Andrew B. Clancy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am, Thursday April 12, 2001 at the St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Corner of Main and Chapel Streets, Newark, DE. Visitation will be held from 9-9:45am at the ROBERT T. JONES & FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE. Burial will be held immediately following the services at the All Saints Cemetery. Read, Jr., John H.
Army
John H. Read, Jr., 53, of Smyrna, died on Saturday June 9 at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover.
He was born in Delaware, and had served as an Army medic during the Vietnam War. After his tour of duty, he graduated from the University of Delaware, and then began a long career with the Delaware Dept. of Corrections. He served as a correctional officer, a drug/alcohol counselor, and for many years, as a probation and parole officer. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Post #14, Smyrna, and the Sudlersville Sportsman Club. John enjoyed competitive pistol shooting, painting, and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Donna L. Read; a son James William Read, of Smyrna; 2 step-children, Heather Halliday, and Jeff Rhin, both of Middletown; and his good friend, Mary Read, of Smyrna.
Services will be held 12:30 PM Thursday June 14 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 22 N. Union St., Smyrna. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9:00 PM at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Interment will be in the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Newark.
