Bert Ritter,

Bert Ritter, 73, of Lewes, passed peacefully Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Lewes Convalescent Center, surrounded by family and friends after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Bert was born Jan. 9, 1934. Bert owned and operated Ritter Farms Inc. with all his brothers and son.
Bert enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.
Bert loved rabbit hunting with his dogs, farming and auto racing, owning race cars, including a coupe that he drove in his younger days.
Bert was an honorary member of the Lewes Fire Department. Bert was also a 25-year member of the Improved Order of Redmen of Delaware and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 646 in Lewes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Ritter of Lewes. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Steele of Milford.
Bert is survived by his wife of 24 years, Etta Wells Ritter; son, Brad of Lewes, his wife Laura and their triplets Amanda, Adam and Aaron; three stepsons Robert McCabe of Harbeson and his wife Stephanie and three children, Willie, Justin and Leslie, Ralph McCabe of Millsboro and his wife Ronda and their four children, Amber, Brian, Chase and Kaitlyn, Randy McCabe of Frankford and his wife Melinda and children Allen and Natasha. He is also survived by three brothers, Frank of Lewes and wife Janet, Irvin of Milford and wife Eleanor and Howard “Bud” of Lewes and wife Jacqui; six sisters, Marie Savin of Milford, Ethel Lee of Harbeson and her husband Keith, June Simpson of Harbeson and her husband Danny, Joann Burton of Lewes and her husband John, Janice Mosley of Seaford and her husband Jim, and Pat Rust of Seaford and her husband Larry. He is also survived by several special nephews and nieces, and a very large and loving extended family and special group of treasured friends.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday July 14,, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, were friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 13. Burial will be in St. George’s Chapel cemetery
near Angola.

Geraldine L. Parker,

Geraldine L. Parker, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Parker was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., May 31, 1925. She moved to Rehoboth Beach 23 years ago with her husband from Woodbury, N. J. She had been employed as a seamstress in a dress manufacturing factory. Mrs. Parker was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in the Paulsboro, N.J. Lodge. She enjoyed antiquing.
Mrs. Parker is survived by her husband of 63 years, William E. Parker; two sons, Kevin G. Parker and Thomas Hubler, both of Lau rel; a daughter-in-law Joyce Parker of Mantua, N.J.; a brother, James Miller of Winona, N.J.; a granddaughter, Diane E. Parker; and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Grace Lillian Kent Parker; and a son, William W. Parker, who died in 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday July 13, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium. 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, with the Rev. Fred Duncan officiating. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery
in Millsboro, at 1 p.m., following the funeral services.
Evelyn B. Troise,

Evelyn B. Troise, 82, of Lewes and formerly of Dover, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at home, with her family by her side.
Born and raised in Foggia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Concetta Stella Barisani and moved to the United States in January 1946.
She had been a longtime member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover prior to moving to Lewes. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was especially fond of those moments she spent with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward J. Troise of Lewes; three sons, Edward J. Jr., Lawrence and Anthony, all of Lewes; a daughter, Evelyn T. Troise Bove of Lewes; nine grandchildren, Jeremy E. Troise and his wife Tara of Camden, Jerrad D. Troise and his wife Amanda of Hawaii, Justin A. Troise and his fiancée, Tracey Powell of Rehoboth Beach, Gene Aarons of Lewes, Jacquline N. Troise of Dover, Jheri J. Troise of Dover, Eleanor Roberto and her husband Louis of Philadelphia, Pa., Aimee E. Troise and her fiancé Brendan Bieker of Philadelphia and Elissa J. Troise of Dover; and nine great-grandchildren
A Mass of Christian Burial, along with entombment in the Troise family mausoleum was private.

Shirley G. MacArthur,

Shirley Gleason MacArthur, 76, of Seaford, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Seaford in 1931, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Gleason and Mabel Roberts Gleason Deakyne of Seaford. Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother and wife to her loving husband, Mac, for 53 years. A 1949 Seaford High School graduate, she also attended Goldey Beacom College, where she took courses for a banking career which lasted 36 years.
She worked at First National, Seaford Trust and Wilmington Trust in Seaford for 32 years where she was the well-known drive-in teller lady. She retired in 1993. She was devoted to her church, St. John’s United Methodist in Seaford, where she taught Sunday School for decades to young people and senior citizens. She loved to count the collection money on Mondays with a group of volunteers. She was a member of the Seaford High Alumni Association, a former member of the Red Hat Society and a cancer survivor. She proudly wore a purple wrist band and ribbon pendant every day of her life. She was a proficient needlepoint artist and her works are displayed in homes throughout the region.
She enjoyed playing games and cards, movies, music, lunch at PK and being with family and friends. Shirley also enjoyed family trips to Minnesota and Virginia and in later years to Florida. She loved being around her pet dachshund, Peanut.
She is survived by her loving husband, Maurice “Mac” MacArthur; a son, Ronald MacArthur of Lewes and Seaford; a daughter, Mary Jane MacArthur of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; a granddaughter, Bethany MacArthur, of Seaford; a sister, Patricia Charlton, of Summerville, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Pine and Poplar streets. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Seaford, following the service.

Catherine B. Flickinger,

Irene Corrigan Snell, 60, of The Villages in Florida, died Sunday, July 1, 2007, after a year-long battle with cancer.
She graduated from De La Warr High School in New Castle, where she was the drum majorette for the band and was elected the school’s homecoming queen. Irene enjoyed a diverse career in Delaware, working as a stenographer at the DuPont Experimental Station, as a secretary at the Xerox Corp., and for 20 years as an executive assistant to the editors and publishers of The News Journal Company. She also was an assistant to the president of Produce Marketing Association and social director for Stonegate Retirement Community, and was employed by the Cecil Whig. She moved to the Villages in 2000, where she enjoyed the weather, listening to music, dancing in the town square and the camaraderie with other retired “baby boomers.”
She was preceded in death by her husband E. Thomas Snell.
She is survived by her son, E. Corrigan Snell of Tampa, Fla.; stepdaughter, Cynthia Dmiterchik of Milton; her stepson, Steven Snell of Orlando, Fla.; and two (soon to be three) stepgrandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held for friends and family at a future date in Delaware.

Catherine B. Flickinger,

Catherine Burke Flickinger, of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, July 2, 2007, three days before her 89th birthday.
A lifelong resident of Delaware, Kay was a graduate of Wilmington Friends School and a 1940 graduate of the University of Delaware’s College of Education. She always had a keen interest in children and education, and spent her 32-year career as a teacher, first at Richardson Park Elementary, then at the former Foulk Road Elementary School. Combining her love of education with her love of the University of Delaware, Kay was appointed in 1976 by Gov. Sherman Tribbitt as a trustee, then in 1978 as vice-chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Delaware and served, with great enthusiasm, for many years. In recognition of her dedicated service to the board, she was named trustee emerita in 1995. In 2001, Kay was awarded the University’s Medal of Distinction - the highest award the University bestows. Mrs. Flickinger was involved in fundraising for the University’s Bob Carpenter Center, College of Nursing and the Brandywine Y.M.C.A.
Kay was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Wilmington Country Club, and the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. Mrs. Flickinger loved Christmas and for more than 40 years, the Flickingers hosted an annual Christmas Eve party at their home, a tradition enjoyed by generations of their friends.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Burke Jr., Cole and his wife Tonya, and Elizabeth; their mother, Sue T. Flickinger; a great-grandson, Thomas; her niece, Margaret Carlsen; her sister-in-law, Billie Burke; and her devoted cat, Sir Oliver.
Kay was preceded in death in 2005 by her husband of 62 years, Herbert H. Flickinger; in 2004 by their son, H. Burke Flickinger Sr.; and by her brother, Richard Burke.
The family wants to offer heartfelt appreciation to Kay’s caregivers, whom she embraced as her special friends, Raynee, Chandra, Zee, Pat, Bernice, Betty, and Shelby; and Dr. Montigney.
A funeral service was held at the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, Talleyville. Interment was in Lower Brandywine cemetery.

Franklin C. Schriver,

Franklin C. Schriver, 90, of Long Neck and formerly of Mifflinburg and Augustaville, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Shamokin, Pa. on December 13, 1916. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Schriver owned and operated Schriver’s Country Store and Service Station in Augustaville before retiring. Franklin was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, and Post 44 in Danville, Pa. He loved fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gertrude E. Schriver; a son, Gary Schriver and his wife Melanie of Long Neck; two grandchildren, Eric Schriver of Pennsylvania and Adrea Schriver of Long Neck; and one great-grandson, Landon.
A graveside service was held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery , Millsboro.

Edward F. Quinn III,
active in medical community
Edward F. “Terry” Quinn III, M.D., of Milford, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Milford Memorial Hospital, Bayhealth Medical Center. Dr. Quinn was born April 28, 1944, in Washington, D.C., to the late Edward F. Quinn Jr. and Louise Fenton Quinn.
Dr. Quinn graduated from the University of Maryland Medical School in 1969. He served his surgical internship at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, from 1969 to 1970. He served his residency in orthopaedics at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md., from 1971 to 1972. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. Dr. Quinn was the chief of surgery at Milford Memorial Hospital and founder of The Dickinson Medical Group in 1975. He also formerly served on the staff of Kent General Hospital in Dover and Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was a member of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, a fellow with the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Eastern Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, a past president of the Medical Society of Delaware, a member of the Quality Insights of Delaware board, a member of the American Legion Post 3 and Milford Elks Lodge 2401, and an active participant in many organizations.
Terry had a passion for life. He was devoted to the Delaware medical community and widely known for his dedication to the treatment and care of his patients. His skilled hands and strong mind served his many patients well. He adored his family and quietly helped with the missions of numerous charitable organizations. A lifelong student of learning, he was a voracious reader of books and a world traveler. He was well known for readily sharing his informed opinion and expertise in a wide variety of topics, including medicine, politics, language and history. He was a staunch proponent of education and personal development in himself and in those around him. Terry was fun loving and exceptionally proud of his Irish heritage. He always appreciated a good joke and knew life required not only an unfailing sense of personal responsibility, integrity and generosity but also humor and grace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura Sappington Quinn, and by his second wife, Audrey E. Dickinson Quinn, in 2002.
Dr. Quinn is survived by his fiancée, Judi Muir of Milford; a son, Edward F. “Ned” Quinn IV and his wife Kristin of Woodbridge, Va.; a granddaughter, Audrey Quinn; two stepsons, Matt Weller and his wife Carol, and Mark Weller, all of Maryland; a brother, Dr. Richard Quinn D.D.S. and his wife Patricia of Dover; a sister, Patricia Quinn Stote and her husband George of Balston Lake, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 6, and from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, July 7, at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford. A celebration of Dr. Quinn’s life will be at noon, Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Ellen Marie Wright,

Ellen Marie “Doll” Wright, 84, of Millsboro, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at her residence.
After many years of dedicated service with Townsend’s Inc. of Millsboro, she retired in 1982. Marie continued to work for numerous families in the Lewes and Rehoboth Beach area, where she made many lifetime friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William A. Wright and Lottie E. Street Wright; four brothers, Howard J. Wright Sr., William E. “Jimmie” Wright, Wilson S. Wright and Alden F. Wright; and two sisters, Viola Ayers and Estelle Davis. Also, a lifelong friend and companion, Lee Hitchens, preceded her in death this past March. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, with visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. The Rev. Larry Ganster will officiate the service. Interment will be at Indian Mission U.M. Church cemetery , Millsboro.

Leo Ades,

Leo Ades, 93, of Seaford, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2007, after a brief illness.
A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. Ades excelled as an athlete, receiving a basketball scholarship to the University of Alabama.
He was drafted by the U.S. Army during World War II and trained as a foreign interpreter.
During his military tour he met his loving wife Aline of 65 years. They resided for many years in Millsboro. Mr. Ades led a colorful life. He was in the automobile business for many years, owning dealerships in Georgetown and Easton, Md.
Mr. Ades worked for the state of Delaware as a budget analyst in Dover and later as business manager at Delaware Technical & Community College in Georgetown. He retired from state service in 1984.
Mr. Ades, known for his quick wit, was an avid reader and prided himself on staying current with financial matters and world events. He remained very active until becoming ill four months ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ida Ades; brother, Bob Ades; and sister, Jeanette Perler.
He is survived by his devoted wife Aline; daughters Edwina Ades of Easton and Sandra A. Grantham of Seaford; a sister, Helen Gorden of Warwick, R.I.; five grandchildren, Tanya Rak of Montvale, N.J., Mark Mayer of Baltimore, Md., Lisa Poras of Boston, Mass., Michael Harris of Wilmington, David Harris of Kennett Square, Pa.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 8, at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford. Graveside services will be private.

Granville F. Kunsman, 91, of Frankford and Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Lifecare at Lofland Park in Seaford.
He was a retired employee of DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford and was a lifetime member of Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company and Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth.
He was predeceased by his wife, Electa in 2000.
Granville is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Elma and Lewis Gray; a niece, Linda Muncy; two grandchildren, Dayna Aliberti and her husband Rocco, and David L. Gray and his wife, Donna; and three great-grandchildren, Dustin, Megan and Michael.
Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, July 7, at the Frankford chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be private in Epworth cemetery
in Rehoboth Beach.
