James W. Holden, Sr.
1944 - 2007

James W. Holden, Sr., 62, of New Haven, departed this life June 29, 2007.

Born in Dothan, AL, September 10, 1944, he was the son of the late Rivers and Mattie Holden.

Prior to retiring, he was employed by Watson Foods as a Food Processing Technician.

Mr. Holden is survived by his children, Cathy Woods, Deborah, Tatiana, Delphine, Rudolph (Darlene) and James Holden, Jr., Sheila Borbua, Wesley Long and Torrance Rodriguez; 23 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a special aunt, Lucille Godwin; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Holden.

A celebration of Mr. Holden's life and legacy will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 12:00 PM at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Webster St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Burial will be Monday at 10:30 AM in Evergreen Cemetery.

Violet Frasier
1934 - 2009

Violet Frasier, age 74, of New Haven, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was the widow of Esaw Frasier.

Violet was born December 17, 1934, in Hemingway, SC, daughter of the late Sie and Lillie Mae Turner.

She was a resident of New Haven for the past 54 years. Violet retired from Yale University and spent her life as a devoted wife and mother.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Harry (Annie), Mark Anthony, Arthur and James Edward Frasier all of New Haven; a daughter, Priscilla Daluz (Larry) of Fresno, CA; sisters, Estelle Rice of New York and Elouise Sumpter and Lillie Ann McClary both of South Carolina; brothers, Thomas Lee, John, Roy Lee, Sie, Jr. and James Ernest Turner all of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by brothers, JC and Charles Turner; and sisters, Carrie Brutton and Diane Cooper.

A celebration of Mrs. Frasier's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Agape Christian Center, 90 Goffe St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Georgetown, SC on November 21, 2009.

Mildred Myrl Stewart
1916 - 2006

Mildred Myrl Stewart, 90, of New Haven, CT, departed this life on June 20, 2006.

Mrs. Stewart was born in the District of Mount Regale, Parish of St. Mary, Jamaica, on April 16, 1916. She was the daughter of the late Adrian and Albertha Hanchard.

Mrs. Stewart was the owner and operator of a grocery store in the Cayman Islands for numerous years. After arriving in the United States, she was employed as a geriatric nurse and care-giver.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Dawn Stewart; her former spouse, Renton J. Stewart; sisters, Fay Gordon and Vivette Wilks; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Winston Hanchard and ten brothers and sisters.

A funeral service in celebration of Mrs. Stewart's life will be held Friday, June 30, 2006, at 11 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeal Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10-11 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Dorothea Mitchell
1945 - 2006

Dorothea Mitchell, 61, of New Haven, departed this life on November 14, 2006. She was the wife of Henry Mitchell.

Born in New Haven, CT on February 6, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Carrie Coleman.

She had been employed as a nurse's aide.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons, Freddy Sesler, Joseph and Daniel Broadnax, Roosevelt and Rashad Bolden and Marcquel Mitchell; daughters, Grendette Grant and Tamiya Mitchell; brothers, Rev. Ronald and Donald Taylor; a God-sister, Eloise Bettye Reed; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Russell and Charles Coleman.

A funeral service celebrating Mrs. Mitchell's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at 11 AM at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Lemuel Erik Hamilton, Jr.
2008 - 2008

He was born on July 23, 2008 and died the same day.

Lemuel Erik Hamilton, Jr., entered into rest on July 23, 2008. He was the infant son of Lemuel and Angela Hamilton.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Daisy and Alicia Braddy and Corena Hamilton; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Deborah Gordneer; his paternal grandmother, Diane Hamilton; and a host of other relatives.

Graveside service will be held Monday, August 4, 2008, at 1:00 PM at Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella Grasso Blvd.

William Earl Edwards
1953 - 2006

William Earl Edwards, 53, of New Haven, departed this life December 5, 2006.

Born in New Haven, CT on March 8, 1953, he was the son of Arlease Edwards and the late Lee Edwards.

He had been employed by Simkins Industries.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by sons, Tyron Clemons and Darryl Edwards; daughters, Ty-east Taylor (Kwane), Linda Clemons and Anita Edwards; a brother, Jerry Edwards; sisters, Melissa Malloy and Christine and Shanta Edwards; 6 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by brothers, Bruce and Norman Edwards and a sister Ethel Lee Edwards.

A funeral service celebrating Mr. Edwards' life and legacy will be held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Agape Christian Center, 90 Goffe St., New Haven.

Iris May Cole
1913 - 2008

Iris May Cole, 94, of West Haven, departed this life June 10, 2008. She was the widow of Astor Cole.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica, September 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Decordeva and Ellen Ruby Beaumont.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Cole was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital in the Environmental Services Dept.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Winston Cole of West Haven, Leslie Cole (Dorreth) of New Haven and Roy Cole (Elizabeth) of Canada; a daughter, Tatline Schneider of Switzerland; a brother, Vincent Beaumont of New Jersey; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by sister, Vida Monahan.

A memorial service to celebrate Mrs. Cole's life and legacy will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008, at 5:00 PM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven.

Terry Louis Kendrick
1955 - 2008

Terry Louis Kendrick, 53, of West Haven, departed this life December 17, 2008.

Born in Greenville, NC, July 19, 1955, he was the son of Virgil and Mary Spell Kendrick.

Mr. Kendrick was employed by Interstate Container and Winchester Repeating Arms and also served in the US Army.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons, Christopher and Mark Kendrick of Hamden; sisters, Sylvia Waller (Ronald) of New Haven and Jacqueline Boyd (Scott) of West Haven; brothers, Jerry Kendrick and Victor Kendrick (Lucia) of West Haven and Glen Kendrick (Kathy) of Hamden; his longtime companion, Diane McGibony and her children, Shawn and Ryan McGibony; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pamela Kendrick and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A celebration of Mr. Kendrick's life and legacy will be held Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. at Pitts Chapel UFWB Church, 64 Brewster St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

David Jones
1954 - 2009

David Jones, 54, of Hamden, departed this life April 23, 2009.

Born in Leland, NC, October 8, 1954, he was the son of the late George W. and Bessie Mae Jones.

Mr. Jones was employed for numerous years at Burger King.

He leaves to cherish his memory, sisters, Luretha Brown and Edna McClendon (Rowan); brothers, Edwin Jones (Inez), Leon Jones (Michelle), Alton Lee Jones, Joe Henry Bryant (Connie) and Landon Bryant (Elizabeth); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lola Jones; a brother, Alexander Vereen; and his grandparents, Moses and Rachel Brown.

A celebration of Mr. Jones' life will be held Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
