Eugene Leroy Lovette, Jr.
1943 - 2006

Eugene Leroy Lovette, Jr., 63, of Springfield, MA, formerly of New Haven, departed this life on September 11, 2006.

Born in New Haven, CT, on January 22, 1943, he was the son of the late Eugene L. Lovette., Sr. and Thelma Taylor Brooks.

Mr. Lovette served as a police officer for the New Haven Police Department for 15 years and later went on to hold numerous other occupations.

He was a Marine Corps. veteran; past Worshipful Master of Widow's Son Masonic Lodge #1; a member of the New Haven Consistory #7 and a member of the New Haven Silver Shields.

Mr. Lovette is survived by his former spouse, Vinita Adams Lovette; sons, Eugene L. Lovette, III, Rodney Adams and David Lovette; a sister, Venita Brooks Sims (Milton); 3 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Joseph C. Brooks and a brother, Victor Brooks. A funeral service celebrating Eugene's life and legacy will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006, at 9 AM at Agape Christian Center, 90 Goffe St., New Haven. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Adriene C. Monteiro
1964 - 2006

Adriene Celeste Monteiro, 41, of Whalley Ave., New Haven, departed this life on August 8, 2006.

Ms. Monteiro was born in Providence, RI, on December 10, 1964. She was the daughter of the late Leslie Kelly and Marie Monteiro.

She was employed by Marrakech, Inc. and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Cierra Bellamy; a son, Wesley Bellamy, Jr.; siblings, Veronica Monteiro Harmon, Tina Fraizer, Felicia Gomes, Troy, Tarshia, Travis and Bernard Hie III, Leslie Kelly, Kelly and Donnel Freeman, Mark Smith and Maurice Hammond; a son in-law, Dawayne Daniels; her paternal grandparents, Johnny Pearl Kelly and J.D. Kelly; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by sisters, Tracy and Deborah Kelly and her stepfather, Bernard W. Hie, Sr.

A funeral service celebrating Adriene's life and legacy will be held Saturday, August 12, 2006, at 9 AM at Faith Baptist Church, 39 Emma St., West Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8-9 AM. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Marlene Hoff
1939 - 2009

Marlene Hoff, 69, of Hamden, departed this life August 6, 2009. She was the wife of Walter Hoff.

Born in New Haven, CT, November 28, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Elliott Dixon and Natalie Johnson Moore.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital for 40 years as a Pharmacy Technician. She was a member of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Kim R. Chapman (Lawrence) and Toni Foreman (Lorenzo); a sister, Rosalind Lobo (Alfred); grandchildren, Brandon Chapman, Tania Foreman, Lauren Chapman, Lorenzo Foreman, Jr., Jasmine Chapman and Logan Foreman; three great grandchildren, Avont Chapman, Najee Chapman and Breanna Morris; an expected great grandchild, Chase Adorno; an aunt, Margo Taylor; stepchildren, Walter, Kevin Sr., Patricia, Keith and Kenny Hoff; step-grandchildren, Janelle and Kevin Hoff, Jr;. and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Carole Richardson and Janice Price.

A celebration of Mrs. Hoff's life and legacy will be held Monday, August 10, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 449 Newhall St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Inez Bell
1915 - 2005

Inez Bell, age 90, of New Haven, CT, departed this life on Thursday, September 22, 2005, at Haven Health Care Center.

Inez was born in Newbern, NC, February 2, 1915, daughter of the late Nelson Collins and Carrie Carnegia.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Delores (Alphonse) Brito; 2 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Donna Brito.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at 11am at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 26 Edwards St., Hamden, CT. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Steven L. Johnson, Sr.
1954 - 2006

Steven L. Johnson, Sr., age 51, of Eastern St., New Haven, entered into eternal rest on February 24, 2006 at his home. He was the husband of Rev. Sylvia Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was born in Staunton, VA, on October 24, 1954, son of Thomas Johnson of Staunton, VA and the late Frances Louise Johnson.

Mr. Johnson received an A.S. in Human Services from Gateway Community College in New Haven and a B.S. in Human Services from Springfield College in Springfield, MA.

He was an assistant teacher at Benjamin Jepson School and was an assistant basketball coach at Wilbur Cross High School and Saint Francis School. Steven served on numerous committees which include association president and treasurer at Saint Francis School, youth league basketball coach for the New Haven Police Dept. and Board of Education Head Start Program.

He was a dedicated man to everyone who came in contact with him and was a positive role model to the children of our future.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by sons, Steven L. Johnson, Jr. and Marque Johnson of New Haven; a daughter, Sarah Johnson of New Haven; a grandchild, QuaJohn Johnson; brothers, Thomas Johnson II and Michael A. Johnson of Staunton, VA; sisters, Stephanie and Debra Johnson of Staunton, VA; his stepmother, Dolly Johnson of Staunton, VA; stepsisters, Glendora Gibson and Kim Brown of Staunton, VA; and many other beloved family members and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, David Johnson.

A funeral service in celebration of Steven's life will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at 11am at Church of God of Prophecy, 155 Grand Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Carolyn Butler
1926 - 2008

Caroline Butler, 82, of New Haven, departed this life July 9, 2008. She was the widow of Archie Lee Butler, Sr.

Born in Anniston, AL, January 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Plez and Caroline Quicksey.

Mrs. Butler leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter, Marilyn Butler; sons, Frank Rowe, Robert Lindsey and Archie Lee Butler, Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Butler; brothers, Plez and Jimmy Quicksey; and sisters, Rose Jones, Alberta Blake, Ova Lee Pize, Ann Howard and Lucille Quicksey Todd.

A celebration of Mrs. Butler's life and legacy will be held Monday, July 14, 2008, at 12:00 PM at Church of Christ, 16 Gem St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Willie Marie Norman
1933 - 2009

Willie Marie Norman, 75, of New Haven, departed this life August 6, 2009.

Born in Rocky Mount, NC, December 16, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Caesar Williams and Estelle Ross Williams.

Prior to retiring, she was employed at Sargent Manufacturing Co. as a Machine Operator.

She also served as a pianist and choir director at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church for numerous years.

Ms. Norman leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Garlyn Norman; a daughter, Verna Norman; grandchildren, Uriah, Marcus and Gerell Norman, Garland Hagwood, Spencer Gaskins and Shyanne Myers; four great grandchildren; cousins, Lillian Hill and Luther Avent; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Uriah Ervin Norman. A celebration of Ms. Norman's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Ray V. Richardson, Sr.
1924 - 2007

Ray Victor Richardson, Sr., 82, of Hamden, departed this life April 14, 2007. He was the husband of Agnes Richardson.

Born in Ansonville, NC, June 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Ed and Jennie Richardson.

Mr. Richardson retired from Armstrong Rubber Co. after 31 years of service and was a WWII Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Joyce Richardson; sons, Donald and Joseph Richardson; sisters, Sophia Richardson and Mattie Jackson; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by sons, Ray Richardson, Jr. and Wayne Richardson; brothers, Fleetwood, Joseph, Olean and Julian Richardson; and sisters, Monte Flake, Bernice Davis, Charlie Bell Bruton, Grace Dunlap and Eddie Crump.

A celebration of Mr. Richardson's life and legacy will be held Friday, April 20, 2007, at 11:00 am at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Clova Dorothy Mitchell
1933 - 2009

Clova Dorothy Mitchell, 76, of New Haven, departed this life August 23, 2009.

Born in Jamaica, July 30, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosetta Sterling Medley.

Ms. Mitchell leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Sandra Y. Mitchell-Wilson (Vernon Wilson) of East Haven, Zachary John Mitchell (Christine Mitchell) of Orlando, FL and Dr. Judith E. Mitchell of New York, NY; an adopted daughter, Pauline Novelette Walsh (Chris Walsh); eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four brothers (including Deacon David Medley); and numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A celebration of Ms. Mitchell's life and legacy will be held Friday, August 28, 2009, at 6:00 P.M at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be in Kingston, Jamaica.

Wiley Edward Farmer, Sr.
1960 - 2007

Wiley Edward Farmer, Sr., departed this life March 3, 2007 after a short battle with cancer.

Wiley was born February 22, 1960 in Bridgeton, NJ son of Wiley G. Farmer of New Jersey and Lilly Farmer of New Haven, CT.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1978 and was employed by Eagle Leasing Company in Orange, CT as a Tractor Trailer Driver at the time of his illness.

In addition to his parents, he leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife; Marilyn Farmer; a son, Wiley "EJ" Farmer, Jr.; a daughter, Rebecca Spears; two stepdaughters, Natalie Collier and Stephanie Collier; a stepson, Nathaniel Collier; a twin sister, Rebecca Hines (James); two brothers, Richard Farmer (Mary) and Dennis Farmer (Anita); a godson, Ernest Suggs, III.; a life-time friend, Ernest "Odie" Suggs, Jr.; two special aunts, Mattie Pierce and Sallie R. Farmer; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by a brother, Che Farmer; his maternal grandparents, Edward and Rosalee Brooks; and his paternal grandparents, Alexander "Flip" and Betty Farmer.

A funeral service to celebrate Wiley's life and legacy will be held Friday, March 9, 2007, at 11 AM at New Light Holy Church, 198 Howard Ave., New Haven, CT. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Burial in the State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown, CT.
