Bertha Gulley
1942 - 2007
Bertha Gulley, 64, of West Haven, quietly and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2007.
Born in Selma, AL, September 20, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Deacon Phillip and Elder I.V. Gulley.
Ms. Gulley was a charter member of Joy Temple Church where she served faithfully for forty years. There, she served on numerous auxiliaries including the Missionary Board and as president of the Usher Board.
She was an employee of Nationwide Insurance Co. for many years.
She is survived by a brother, Willie Gulley (Gordell); an uncle, Willie Stall (Macie), two special goddaughters, Venus Shields and Shelise Simmons-Reid; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and her Joy Temple Church Family.
She was predeceased by a brother, J.C. Gulley.
A celebration of Ms. Gulley's life and legacy will be held Monday, July 9, 2007, at 10:00 AM at Joy Temple Church, 424 Howard Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.
Jorge B. Logan
1937 - 2007
Jorge B. Logan, 70, of New Haven, departed this life July 5, 2007. He was the husband of Olga A. Logan.
Born in Izabal, Guatemala, May 27, 1937, he was the son of the late William and Irene Logan.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by American Refractories and Crucible as a Kiln Operator.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jose A Logan of New Haven, George S. Logan of Ansonia, Hector D. Logan of Simsbury and Eric H. Logan of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Hector and Nevil Bernard and Junior, Lewis and Alexandrina Logan.
A celebration of Mr. Logan's life and legacy will be held Saturday, July 7, 2007, at 4:00 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 3:00-4:00 PM. Burial will be private.
Mattie P. Wilmot
1951 - 2008
Mattie P. Wilmot, 56, of New Haven, departed this life May 14, 2008.
Born in Baltimore City, MD, June 23, 1951, she was the daughter of the late William A. Duncan, Sr. and Rebecca T. Duncan.
She was employed as a Manager in the Seafood Dept. at Stop & Shop Supermarkets, Inc.
Ms. Wilmot is survived by a daughter, Angel Duncan-Byrd; sons, Michael Wilmot, Jr. and William Wilmot; grandchildren, Tyrell Duncan, Shanell Morrison and Mikera Wilmot; brothers, Ronald Scott, William Duncan, Jr., Thomas Duncan and Douglas Duncan; sisters, Ellen Moreno, Gloria Ballou and Rebecca Duncan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by brothers, Gordon Scott and Cleveland and Richard Duncan; and her loving stepmother, Mary Duncan.
A memorial service to celebrate Ms. Wilmot's life and legacy will be held Monday, May, 19, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Gideon Faith Fellowship Church, 363 Dixwell Ave., New Haven.
Charlie Mae Wilbon
1942 - 2006
Charlie Mae Wilbon, 64, of New Haven, CT, formerly of Orlando, FL, entered into rest on November 22, 2006 after a long illness.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Frennis Walden, Sr. (Darlene) and Keith Nelson; three dear daughters, Christine Wilbon, Williamenia Walden and Darlene D. Wilbon; five goddaughters, Belinda, Brenda and Barbara Johnson, Jacqueline Faison Elmandorf and Shikitta Tavares; a godson, Stacy Houston; a brother, Nathaniel Wilbon; sisters, Claudette Meyes, Emma Taylor, Marie Murphy and Bernestine, Sandra and Dora West; 18 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
A funeral service celebrating Ms. Wilbon's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11 AM at Thomas Chapel Church, 30 White St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Entombment in Beaverdale Mausoleum.
James E. “Jimmy” Lloyd
1944 - 2010
James E. “Jimmy” Lloyd, 65, of New Haven, departed this life February 26, 2010.
Born in Martin County, NC, June 15, 1944, he was the son of Evelyn Lloyd and the late Major Lloyd, Sr.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Machine Operator.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter, Cherisa Lloyd; brothers, Major, Jr., Carlton and Ricky Lloyd; sisters, Mabel Carroll, Evelyn McCray, Barbara Little, Carolyn Stancil, Kay Peele, Janice Hines and Maxine Pittman; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a son, James E. Lloyd, Jr. and a brother, Milton Lloyd.
A celebration of Mr. Lloyd’s life and legacy will be held Friday, March 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew’s UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Lillie Dell G. Daniels
1954 - 2008
Lillie Dell G. Daniels, 86, of New Haven, departed this life June 3, 2008. She was the widow of Willie Daniels.
Born in Wilson, NC, July 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Lee Gibson and Hattie Gibson.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the V.A. Medical Center as a Lead Person in the Laundry Services Dept.
She is survived by a host of dear friends.
Mrs. Daniels was predeceased by a brother, Walter Gibson.
A celebration of Mrs. Daniels' life will be held Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 5:00 PM at United House of Prayer, 100 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Burial will be held Monday at 9:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery.
Ethel Hicks
1933 - 2005
Ethel L. Hicks, 72, of Orchard St., New Haven, entered into peaceful rest on August 21, 2005. She was the widow of Lester Hicks, Jr.
Mrs. Hicks was born in Oriental, NC on February 16, 1933, daughter of the late Annie L. Bryant. She was a resident of New Haven for 19 years.
Mrs. Hicks had always been actively involved in church and was a member of New Bethlehem UFW Baptist Church in New Haven.
She was the beloved mother of Enola (James) McLean and Vernon (Colleena) Hicks; sister of Hattie Bryant and James (Esther) Bryant. Also survived by 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Bryant.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 25, 2005, at 11am at Union Temple Church, 54 Platt St. (corner of Platt and Elm St.) New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Gertrude M. Randall Ferrebee
1923 - 2008
Gertrude M. Randall Ferrebee, 85, of New Haven, departed this life October 3, 2008. She was the widow of Leonard Ferrebee.
Born in Deep River, CT, March 29, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Randall.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Sargent Manufacturing Co. as a Machine Operator.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Wayne Ferrebee (Rhonda); daughters, Lynn Woods (Lawrence Walters) and Valerie and Kathye Ferrebee; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A brother, Clinton Randall and a sister, Helen Robinson preceded her in death.

Priscilla C. Miller O'Neil, 82, of New Haven entered into eternal life on November 10, 2005.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at 7pm at Beulah Heights Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven.

Ellen Johnson, 85, of New Haven, departed this life February 16, 2009.
Born in Goldsboro, NC, December 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles Johnson and Geneva Smith Johnson Gibson.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Olin Matheson Corp. as a Machine Operator.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a brother, Thomas J. Johnson (Avis) of Columbia, MD and a sister, Ethel Baxter of Columbia, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Claretta Johnson.
A celebration of Ms. Johnson's life will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
