Clarence M. Bryant III, 30, of New Haven, departed this life January 27, 2010.
Born in Orangeburg, SC, December 6, 1979, he was the son of Clarence Bryant, Jr. and Yvonne Bryant.
In addition to his parents, he leaves to cherish his memory, sisters, Deitrich Bryant and Theresa Bryant Carney; three brothers in-law, Mike Cote Sr., Tiwan Gary and Sylvester Carney; nieces, Tiona Gary, Andre`a Bryant and Christina Cote; a nephew, Mike Cote Jr.; three uncles; six aunts; his grandfather; and other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a sister, Angela Bryant Cote.
A celebration of Mr. Bryant's life will be held Friday, February 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
Paula Renee' Sherard
1970 - 2007
Paula Renee' Sherard, 37, of New Haven, departed this life May 18, 2007.
She was the daughter of Bishop Paul Sherard and Elder Rosetta Sherard Johnson.
In addition to her parents she leaves to cherish her memories her children, Antjuan and LaShonda Sherard and LeVerne Brown (Donta'); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial celebration of Paula's life will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2007 from 7pm-9pm at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Webster St., New Haven. Burial will be in Goldsboro, NC.
Phyllis West White
1928 - 2010
Phyllis West White, 81, of Hamden, departed this life February 6, 2010.
Born in New Haven, CT, October 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Raymond C. West and Mary Carr Vaughn.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the University of New Haven as an Academic Advisor.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her former spouse, Edward T. White, Sr.; sons, Edward T. Jr., Keith D., Craig A. and Barry D. White; a daughter, Anita White Riddick; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda White-Epps and a sister, Natalie West Wall.
A celebration of Phyllis W. White's life and legacy will be held Friday, February 12, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Dixwell Avenue Congregational United Church of Christ, 217 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Catherine Middleton
1915- 2006
Catherine Middleton, 90, of Hamden, CT, departed this life on May 28, 2006. She was the widow of Gabriel Middleton.
Mrs. Middleton was born in Berkeley County, SC, on June 12, 1915. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Guest.
She was a member of Church of Christ in New Haven.
Mrs. Middleton is survived by sons, St. Julian Guest, Christopher, William, Peter, Samuel Jr., Charles and Henry Jenkins; daughters, Mary Prioleau Anderson, Ruth Williams and Naomi James; a brother, Arthur Guest; 34 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carrie Mae Jenkins; brothers, Henry and Kearney Guest; sisters, Ethel Mack, Robertsene Levine and Susan Guest; and 2 grandchildren.
A funeral service in celebration of Mrs. Middleton's life will be held Thursday, June 1, 2006 at 10 AM at Church of Christ, 16 Gem St., New Haven. Burial will be Monday in St. Stephen, SC.
James L. "Lee" Ponteau, Jr.
1963 - 2009
James L. "Lee" Ponteau, Jr., 45, of New Haven, departed this life April 13, 2009. He was the husband of Maria A. Ponteau.
Born in New Haven, CT, October 2, 1963, he was the son of James L. Ponteau, Sr. and Ruth Ponteau.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by his children, Kevin, Javon, and Alexis Ponteau; a brother, Milton Greene; sisters, Eva Branch (Kevin) and Gwendolyn Ponteau; a granddaughter, Suniyah Ponteau; his stepchildren, Michael Graves and Sheala Westley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Ponteau's life will be held Friday, April 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Agape Christian Center, 90 Goffe St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Essie M. Dawson
1940 - 2010
Essie M. Dawson, 70, of Fountain Terrace, New Haven, departed this life July 24, 2010. She was the widow of Abraham Dawson, Sr.
Born in Dermott, AR, February 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Cora Horn.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as an Inspector for 25 years.
She was a foster parent for over 40 years. Mrs. Dawson was a member of Community Baptist Church and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Douglas Dawson; daughters, Barbara Dawson, Michelle Dawson Ledbetter (Samuel Gene) and Mahogany Dawson; a foster son, Dennis Ward; a foster daughter, Sameyka Williams; brothers, Otis, William and Robert Horn; three granddaughters; eight great grandchildren, two step-grandsons; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, foster children; other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Abraham P. Dawson, Jr.; sisters, Elsie Jenkins and Sandra Horn Moore; mother-in-law, Lillie M. Dawson; and father-in-law, Booker T. Dawson.
A celebration of Mrs. Dawson's life and legacy will be held Friday, July 30, 2010, at 10:00 AM at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Barbara Prescott Boone

Barbara Prescott Boone, 62, of West Haven, departed this life on August 16, 2006.
Ms. Boone was born in Philadelphia, PA, on January 5, 1944. She was the daughter of Jacqueline Robinson Prescott and the late Prince L. Prescott, Sr.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by CT Transit as a Bus Operator.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by sons, Kevin Boone, Sr. and Eric M. Boone; a brother, Prince L. Prescott, Jr.; a sister, Jacqueline Prescott; 9 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Mitchell.
A funeral service celebrating Barbara's life and legacy will be held Monday, August 21, 2006 at 6 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 5-6 PM. Burial Tuesday in Pleasantville, NJ.
Trusslee Williams Blunt
1928 - 2005
Trusslee Williams Blunt, 77, of University Pl., New Haven, died November 1, 2005. She was the widow of Cecil Blunt.
Mrs. Blunt was born in Waynesboro, GA, January 3, 1928, daughter of the late George Farmer and Virginia Farmer Benjamin.
She was the owner of Blunt Family Day Care for 18 years.
Mrs. Blunt is survived by brothers, Frank Benjamin of South Carolina, Anthony Farmer and Charles Williams of New Jersey and Izell, Leroy and Dan Farmer of Ohio; sisters, Corrine Avery of Connecticut, Virginia Jackson of Georgia, Inez Wilson of Florida and Georgella Owens of Ohio; special nieces, Mozelle Avery-Owens, Bridget Draughn, Julia Towns and Minnie Dolberry of Connecticut and Yuatina Lewis of Kansas; special nephews, William Avery, Ocie Towns, Jr. and Leroy Leak of Connecticut and Robert Hagins of Georgia; and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by brothers, James, Inus, Dave and Peter Benjamin; and a sister, Leora Turner.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2005, at 9am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Entombment of cremated remains in Beaverdale Mausoleum.
Robert Pearson
1936- 2005
Robert Pearson, 69, of New Haven, died December 8, 2005.
He was the husband of Daisy M. McKnight Pearson.
Mr. Pearson was born in Canning, SC, March 7, 1936, son of the late John B. and Daisy Brand Pearson.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Marcus Paper Co. as a truck driver.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, William, Leroy and Ricky Pearson; daughters, Janie and Rosa Pearson; sisters, Bonnie Ruth (George) Furman, Lillie B. Cooper and Jettie (Kelly) McElveen; a sister in-law, Leola Pearson; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by brothers, John, Joe and Lucus Pearson and a sister, Emma Jane Miller.
Funeral service was held December 15, 2005, at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home.
Thelma Grace Joyner Lofton
1948 - 2006
Thelma Grace "Gracie"Joyner Lofton, 58, a resident of New Haven, departed this life on December 1, 2006.
Born in Greenville, NC on July 23, 1948, she was the daughter of Annie Mae Joyner of Greenville, NC and the late Julius Joyner, Sr.
She was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a machine operator for 38 years and for a short time, had been previously employed at Yale New Haven Hospital.
In addition to her mother, Gracie leaves to cherish many precious memories, her only child, Carolyn Michelle Lofton Boykin, a resident of New Haven, CT; three grandchildren, Tawana Lofton, Constanza "Stan" Boykin, Jr. and Tanika Boykin, all of New Haven, CT; three great-grandchildren, twins, Rianna & Ryan Luke and Zhanaysia Boykin; sisters, Julia Ann Wooten (Roy) and Debra Dixon (Kirk) both of Greenville, NC; a special and dear friend, Solomon McGee; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Julius Joyner, Jr.
