Leonard James Smart, 57, of New Haven, departed this life June 13, 2008. He was the widower of Deborah Smart.
Born in Stratford, CT, April 28, 1951, he was the son of Laura McQueen Smart and the late Peter J. Smart.
He was employed as the Co-Director of the Greater New Haven Business and Professional Association.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memories sons, Leonard J. Smart, Jr. (Tanya) of Fairfield, OH and Robert J. Smart (Jermell) of New Haven; a daughter, Kimberly Smart of New Haven; brothers, Donald Smart of Atlanta, Roland Lee Smart of Bridgewater, MA and Kevin Smart of Enfield; sisters, Diane Greene of Enfield and Redonna Welcome of New Haven; seven grandchildren; a special friend, Brauna Gorin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Smart's life and legacy will be held Saturday, June 21, 2008, at 12:00 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM. Burial will be private.

Ruth R. Rand
1924 - 2008

Ruth R. Rand, 83, of New Haven, departed this life September 8, 2008. She was the widow of William Rand.
She was born in New Haven, CT, December 16, 1924.
She is survived by her friends at Bella Vista Housing.
A celebration of Mrs. Rand's life will be held Monday, September 15, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Centerville Cemetery.

Jesse R. Stewart
1938 - 2007

Jesse R. Stewart, 68, of West Haven, departed this life February 21, 2007. He was the husband of Linda Stewart.
Born in Ayden, NC, September 2, 1938, he was the son of the late John Garrett and Viola Stewart Lawson.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an inspector by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jesse Donnell Stewart, daughters, Shayla Stewart and Sharonda Andress; seven grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Stewart.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Stewart's life and legacy will be held Saturday, February 24, 2007, at 3 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 2-3 PM. Burial on Tuesday in Ayden, NC.

Angela A. Bryant Cote
1969 - 2009

Angela A. Bryant Cote, 39, of Branford, departed this life May 30, 2009. She was the wife of Michael T. Cote, Sr.
Born in Holly Hill, SC, October 22, 1969, she was the daughter of Clarence Bryant, Jr. and Yvonne Bryant.
Angela was employed at Vantage Corp.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her children, Michael T. Cote, Jr., Anthony Cote and Christina M. Cote; a brother, Clarence Bryant, III; sisters, Theresa and Deitrich Bryant; her grandfather, George Streets; six aunts; three uncles; nieces, Tiona Gary and Andre'a Bryant; brothers-in-law, Tiwan Gary, Sylvester Carney and Butch Cote; four sisters-in-law; a special cousin, Annette Reeves; and a host of cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Annie Boyd and Clarence and Safrone Bryant, Sr.
A celebration of Angela' life will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Faith Refuge Church, 70 West St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford.

Frank Evans
1942 - 2008

Frank Evans, 66, of West Haven, went home to be with the Lord on September 29, 2008.
Born in Brooklyn NY, April 27, 1942, he was the son of the late Frank and Ollie Mae Smith Evans.
Frank was a US Army veteran and was a member of New Growth COGIC for over 20 years.Prior to retiring, he was employed at A. Anastasio Trucking for over 19 years.
Frank leaves to mourn, sons, Frank "Tony" Evans and Shirrod Henderson; a daughter, Renee Evans; fourteen grandchildren; his fiancee, Bertha Burroughs; a nephew, Stephan Smith; his former wife, Pearly Evans; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Brothers, John Evans and Clarence "Bobby" Smith, preceded him in death.
A celebration of Frank's life and legacy will be held Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. at New Growth COGIC, 308 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Milton Johnny Norris
1922 - 2009

Milton Johnny Norris, 86, of New Haven, departed this life March 12, 2009. He was the widower of Pearl Virginia Norris.
Born in Greenville, SC, April 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Abraham and Ida Norris.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at U.S. Repeating Arms as a Machine Operator. Mr. Norris was also a WWII Army veteran.
He leaves to cherish his memories, daughters, Barbara Norris, Jeanette Menafee and Willamae McCabe; sons, Sherman Berry and John Burgos; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Norris; brothers, Willie and James Norris; sisters, Edith Jones, Annie Watley and Isabelle Copeland; and a son in-law, Marshall Menafee.
A celebration of Mr. Norris' life and legacy will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 449 Newhall St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Mikel "Mikey" Edmonds-Grant
1963 - 2007

Mikel "Mikey" Edmonds-Grant, 44, of New Haven, died April 24, 2007 after a brief illness.
Born in New Haven, CT, April 7, 1963, she was the daughter of Barbara Wadley Edmonds James and the late G. Mitchell Edmonds.
Mikel was a graduate of Hillhouse High School Class of 1981 and later received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services from New Hampshire College (Springfield Chapter). She was a member of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Mikel was employed by Amtrak as a conductor and had also been employed for many years by the U.S. Postal Service and the Guidance Department at Hillhouse High School.
In addition to her mother she leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Shaun Daniels (Tawana); sisters, Alderwoman Michelle Edmonds-Sepulveda (Danny) and Mia Edmonds-Duff (Sgt. Anthony); a brother, Sebastian Edmonds (Evette); a granddaughter, Sanai Alysia Daniels; nieces and nephews, Kristen, Danny, Juan Sepulveda, Tristen Tate, Risa, Maya, Anthony, Martin, Marcus Duff, Amber and Coral Camacho Edmonds.
A celebration of Mikel's life and legacy will be held Saturday, April 28, 2007, at 9:00 am at Bethel AME Church, 255 Goffe St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:00-9:00 am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Ruth G. Smith
1937 - 2009

Ruth G. Smith, 71, of Hamden, departed this life June 18, 2009.
Born in Winterville, NC, June 27, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Thelbert and Mattie Mobley.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Machine Operator.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Sharon Butler (Charles), Sheila Smith and Monica Francis (Devon); brothers, Elworth and Elester Mobley; a sister, Mae Jolley; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her former spouse, Jasper Smith; and brothers, Benjamin and James Mobley.
A celebration of Ms. Smith's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Joy Temple Church of Christ in Prayer, 424 Howard Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

Andre Jones
1983 - 2006

Andre Jones, 22, of East Haven, departed this life on February 25, 2006 in New Haven.
He was born November 1, 1983, beloved son of Monique Jones and Samuel Dukes.
In addition to his parents, Andre leaves to cherish his memories, sisters, Tracey Jones of New Jersey and Samari Dukes of New Haven; brothers, Brendon Cohens and Rakeim Dukes; a stepbrother, James Shelton, Jr. all of Connecticut; his maternal grandmother, Lillian Dalambert; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Dukes; and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal great grandmother, Mildred Jones; paternal grandfather, Samuel Dukes; and an uncle, Tyrone Dukes.
A funeral service in celebration of Andre's life will be held TODAY, March 1, 2006, from 6pm-8pm at Christian Love Center, 154 Derby Ave., New Haven. Burial in Somerville, NJ.

Henry H. "Hank" Green, Jr.
1928 - 2007

Henry H. “Hank” Green Jr., 78 of New Haven, departed this life July 6, 2007.
Born in New Haven, CT, December 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Bishop Henry H. Green Sr. and Victoria Law Green.
Hank was a longtime resident of New Haven. He was a Korean War Veteran and the founder of B & L Record Store, well known as the Boss Soul Man. He was a former employee of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in NYC.
Hank taught at the Connecticut Technical Career Institute for 12 years and at H & R Block Tax Service. He was also licensed to pilot private aircraft.
He is survived by sons Henry H. Green III and Jerry R. Green both of New Haven; daughters, Rennay Green Johnson of Manassas, VA and Theresa Collins of Cheraw, SC; sisters Lily Mae Lowe, Lucille DeBerry (Frank), Bernice V. Heath (Adolphus) and Barbara A. Dozier; a brother, James C. Green; 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his former spouses Irene M. Green and Laura J. Green.
He was predeceased by a sister Anna Mae Doggans.
A celebration of Mr. Green’s life and legacy will be held Friday, July 13, 2007 at 11:00 AM. at Morning Star Freewill Holiness Church, 125 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
