Odessa Morton, 55, of Hamden, departed this life October 21, 2008. She was the wife of Walter L. Morton III.
Born in Raeford, NC, August 23, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Lillie Mae Newton Shields.
Mrs. Morton was employed at Southern CT State University as an Office Assistant.
In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memories sons, Johnnie Cooper(Rufara) and Walter L. Morton IV; a daughter, Taylor O. Morton; brothers, Bishop Dozier C. Shields (Lena), Mack Shields, Leroy Shields and Tommie Shields (Sherry); sisters, Idell Shields Dickerson and Ruth Zackery (Larry); grandchildren, Saani J. and Rajahnae Cooper; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A brother, Joe Shields and a sister, Eva Shields Lealand, preceded her in death.
A celebration of Mrs. Morton's life and legacy will be held Monday, October 27, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Living Word Ministries, 225 Meloy Rd., West Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Cathy Ann Telford
1949 - 2005

Cathy Ann Telford, 56, of Spring St., New Haven, departed this life on June 29, 2005.
Ms. Telford was born in New London, NC, on February 9, 1949, daughter of Catherine Berger Lilly and the late Alfonso Lilly.
She was employed by Yale University.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughters, Tiffany and Bonita Guess, Tashan Lilly, Donnietta Rogers and Tasha Wormley; sons, Bromell, Barry, Kevin, Tony and Bam Guess; brothers, Alfonso Lilly, Jr., Willie Lee, Douglas and Bernard Lilly; sisters, Mary M. Goins, Florence Henderson, Barbara Jean Smith, Brenda Gramblin and Audrey Creeks; a grandson, Quincey Booker; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, George Lilly.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at 11am at Ebenezer Chapel Church, 50 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Minnie Lucille Carney
1945 - 2010

Minnie Lucille Carney, 65, of New Haven, departed this life January 20, 2010. She was the widow of Sylvester R. Carney.
Born in Darlington, SC, January 14, 1945, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Lincoln and Janie Wise Lincoln Riley.
She was employed at the Visiting Nurses Association as a Certified Nurse's Assistant for over 10 years and had been employed for over 40 years at U.S. Repeating Arms.
Mrs. Carney was a member of Pocohantas Temple #155.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Elaine Carney Gibbs and Erhonda and Leatha Carney; sons, Sylvester R. Carney, Jr. and Clayton Carney; brothers, Edward Lincoln, Herbert Riley, Jr. and Robert Leon Riley; sisters, Sarah McDuffie, Leola Reddick and Jean Riley; a special friend, Dempsey Woods; foster children, Dapriece Keys and Shaka and Elijah McKnight; thirteen grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her stepfather, Herbert Riley, Sr.; brothers, James, Henry and Jimmy Lincoln; and sisters, Pearlina Lincoln and Joan Riley.
A celebration of Mrs. Carney's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

David Warren Scudder, Sr.
1929 - 2008

David Warren Scudder, Sr., 79, of Hamden, departed this life September 11, 2008. He was the husband of Dr. Cornelia Leavitt-Scudder.
Born in Deep River, CT, January 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Henry M. and Esther Randell Scudder.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and later founded in 1968, along with is first wife, Sylvia, D&S Nameplate Manufacturers, which he operated for 40 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, David W. Scudder, Jr. (Cheryl) of West Haven, Jeffrey L. Scudder of Bristol, Rodney L. Scudder of Hartford, Philip D. Scudder (Kathy) of Boothwyn, PA, Daniel F. Scudder (Yvette M.) of Long Valley, NJ, and Millard C. Scudder (Jiyon L.) of Nagoya, Japan; a stepson, Sloan E. Williams, III of North Haven; eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
His first wife, Sylvia Scudder and his siblings, Henry, William, Mary, Dorothy, Laura and Alice, preceded him in death.
A celebration of Mr. Scudder's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Virginia Ann Pritchett
1949 - 2005

Virginia Ann Pritchett, age 56, of Hallock St., New Haven, departed this life on May 27, 2005.
She was the widow of Earnest W. Pritchett.
Mrs. Pritchett was born in Coolidge, GA, January 17, 1949, daughter of Martha A. James Tompkins and the late Jimmy C. Christian.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Schick Warner-Lambert as an inspector.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughters, Bridgett Sturdivant, Tonya Miller and Detria Pritchett; sons, Victor Kinsler and Earnest Pritchett, Jr.; a brother, Bobby Christian; a sister, Patricia Ann Christian; 9 grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a grandchild, Ashley Pritchett.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 3, 2005, at 7pm at Faith Refuge Church, 70 West St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 6pm-7pm. Burial Saturday at 9am in Evergreen Cemetery.

Idell P. Barrett
1931 - 2008

Idell P. Barrett, 77, of New Haven, departed this life July 27, 2008. She was the widow of Windsor Barrett.
Born in Greenville, NC, January 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Frederick Payton and Clara Streeter Hemby.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital as a Surgical Supply Technician.
She leaves to cherish her memories, nieces, Clara Hemby and Johnnie M. Moye; a special niece, Nina Woodard; a brother-in-law, Will Thorpe of Athens, GA; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Hazel Payton, and sisters, Lula Hemby, Lucy Thorpe and Beatrice Johnson, predeceased her.
A celebration of Mrs. Barrett’s life and legacy will be held Sunday, August 3, 2008, at 6:00 PM at Rock Tabernacle Ministries, 94 Webster St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 5:00-6:00 PM. Burial will be held Monday at 9:00 AM in Evergreen Cemetery.

Eleanor Johnson
1929 - 2005

Eleanor Johnson, 76, of Hamden, died November 7, 2005.
Ms. Johnson was born in Halifax County, NC, on October 29, 1929, daughter of the late Pegan and Fannie Smith-Johnson.
Prior to her retirement in 1992, she was employed by the VA Hospital in West Haven as a certified nursing assistant.
She is survived by her children; James Johnson, Ronnie Gambrell, Mitchell Johnson, Barbara Wells, Anita Horne, Detrica Stewart and Sabrina Breland; grandchildren; great grandchildren; siblings; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday, November 11, 2005, at 11am at Salvation and Deliverance Church, 127 Thompson St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

David Dolphin
1954 - 2008

David Dolphin, 54, of Massachusetts, formerly of New Haven, entered eternal rest of May 24, 2008.
Born in New Haven, CT, March 4, 1954, he was the son of Dolores Gormany Dolphin and the late William Paul Dolphin.
David was employed as a house painter and electrician.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memories four beloved children, David and Jessica King, Mary Cochran and Day-Ann Gillian; two wonderful grandchildren, Dante Conaway and D'Andre; brothers, William (Patricia), Dennis (Darlene), Gary (Cynthia) and Danny Dolphin; sisters, Paula Carmichael (Tony) and Gretchen Vaughn (John); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by two nephews, Jason and Jerry Dolphin.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life and legacy will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 1:00 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven.

Kent Lee Hilton
1956 - 2007

Kent Lee Hilton, 51, of New Haven, departed this life March 24, 2007.
Born in New Haven, CT, March 1, 1956, he was the son of Dolores Files.
Mr. Hilton was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital as an Environmental Engineer.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Kurtis Hilton; a brother, Linwood Files; sisters, Michelle Jones, Tracy Files and Neekal Cherry; his stepfather, James W. Files; a godson, Wesley Files; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Hilton's life and legacy will be held Friday, March 30, 2007, at 11 AM at Christ Chapel New Testament Church, 220 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Gladys Ray Jones
1941 - 2008

Gladys Ray Jones, 67, of Wallingford and formerly of New Haven, departed this life May 20, 2008.
Born in Oriental, NC, March 3, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James Earl Jones and Lela Steward Jones.
Ms. Jones was previously employed by the State of CT Dept. of Children and Families as a Home Health Aide.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Sandra Maxsine Dixon (William) of New Haven; sons, Maurice Armond and Calvin Jones (Stephanie), both of New Haven; brothers, James Jones (Mary) of New York, NY, William Mack Jones (Yvonne) and Robert Earl Jones (Sophia) both of Oriental, NC and Russell Jones (Marva) of Mesic, NC; a sister, Laula Armond of New Haven; a brother in-law, Rev. Billy Smith); six grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by sisters, Queenie Mae Smith and Martha Jane Jones; and a brother in-law, Rufus Armond.
A celebration of Ms. Jones' life and legacy will be held Friday, May 23, 2008, at 7:00 PM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
