Benson M. Allister, 62, of New Haven, departed this life on November 28, 2005.
He was the husband of Gladys James Allister.
Mr. Allister was born in Marigot, Dominica, November 16, 1943, son of Brinnette Mitchell and the late James Allister.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Wendy (Willie) Allister Ford; sons, Benny, Eunell and Lindon Allister and Melbert Matthews; brothers, Walston and Walford Allister and Eddie, Peter and Randolph Mitchell; sisters, Agnes and Florence Allister, Angelique Mitchell, Gwennie Mitchell Christmas, Seraphine Tyson and Mamie Graham; a stepson, Leroy Abraham; stepdaughters, Jennifer Abraham and Rena Abraham Williams; 8 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 1, 2005, at 7pm at Omega Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 278 Winthrop Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 5pm-7pm. Burial in Dominica.
Sean Lee Shaw
1968 - 2009
Sean Lee Shaw, 41, of Middletown (formerly of Hartford and Meriden), departed this life April 2, 2009. Born in Hartford, CT, February 17, 1968, he was the son of Henry Shaw and the late Mildred Shaw.
He was employed as a Counselor and was a member of Grace and Mercy Missionary Baptist Church in Middletown.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his daughters, Anisha Brown and Shakira and Cleopatra Dunlap; his stepmother, Delores Shaw; a stepbrother, Jerry Lee Hamilton; his fiance, Denise Privott; two grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Sean's life will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Grace and Mercy Missionary Baptist Church, 120 Washington Street, Middletown.
Tyler R. Coward
1988 - 2007
Tyler R. Coward, 18, of New Haven, departed this life June 12, 2007.
Born in New Haven, CT, October 23, 1988, he was the son of Victoria Coward Levine and Winston D. Levine.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Marquese Prescott; sisters, Tai'la, Tai'ronda and Sade' Levine; his maternal grandfather, General Bishop Arlester Coward; his maternal step-grandmother, Lillie M. Coward; paternal grandparents, Gloria G. Johnson and Robert Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mildred Coward.
A celebration of Tyler's life will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at 11:00 am at St. James Unity Holiness Church, 79 Lawrence St., New Haven. Burial in Beaverdale Cemetery. Visitation and viewing will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 am.
Mattie P. Jones
1947- 2006
Mattie P. Jones, 59, of New Haven, departed this life October 28, 2006 with her loving daughter by her side.
Born in Winnabow, NC on February 3, 1947, she was the beloved daughter of the late James Calvin Jones and Fannie Bell Jones.
For the past twenty-seven years she worked first as a teacher's aide and then as a teacher's assistant for the West Haven Child Development Center. During this time she took several college courses through which she earned her Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate and most recently an Early Childhood Education certificate.
Mattie is survived by a daughter, Janice Jones of New Haven; two sisters, Frances Sanders of New Haven and Bertha Wilson of North Carolina; a brother, Thomas Jones of North Carolina as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
A funeral service celebrating Ms. Jones' life and legacy will be held Friday, November 3, 2006, at 11 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. There will be no calling hours. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
James Arthur Wright, Sr.
1929 - 2007
James Arthur Wright, Sr., 77, of New Haven, departed this life February 22, 2007.
Born in Bennettsville, SC, April 23, 1929, he was the son of Hester Wright and the late Andrew Thomas.
Prior to retiring he was employed by Hershey Metals as a supervisor. He was also a self-employed carpenter and real estate entrepreneur.
Mr. Wright was an Army veteran and the recipient of a Purple Heart Award during his service in the Korean War.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his spouse, Barbara C. Wright; a son, James A. Wright, Jr.; daughters, Jacalyn A. Wright, Janarleen Boria and Jayne Wright Cypress; brothers, Hoover and Willie Wright and John Harrington; sisters, Ethel Lee Perkins and Claire Franklin; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate Mr. Wright's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at 12 pm at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 11am-12pm. Burial will be private.
Karen L. Fleming
1952 - 2007
Karen L. Fleming, 54, of New Haven, departed this life January 2, 2007. She was the wife of James A. Fleming.
Born in New Haven, CT on August 4, 1952, she was the daughter of Ruby Moore and the late Ralph Moore, Sr.
She was employed by the State of Connecticut as a social worker.
Mrs. Fleming was a member of Bible Gospel Center in Hamden.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Brandon J. Fleming; a daughter, Nicole L. Fleming; brothers, Ralph Moore, Jr. and Edward M. and Keith Moore; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Kenneth Wesley Lowry

Kenneth Wesley Lowry, 60, of New Haven, departed this life January 16, 2009.
Born in New Haven, CT, February 9, 1948, he was the son of Marjorie Parris Fowler and Theodore A. Lowry.
He was an entrepreneur and served in the U.S. Coast Guard.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Wayne N. Lowry (Madelyn), Theodore K. Lowry (Robin), David E. Fowler (Janet) and Wayne Miggins (Geraldine); a sister, Pamela M. Fowler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Mr. Lowry's life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 111 Whalley Ave., New Haven.

Evelyn E. Robinson, of New Haven, departed this life on April 21, 2006.
Ms. Robinson was born in Parmele, NC, daughter of the late Samuel and Maggie Highsmith Robinson.
She was employed as a private duty nurse for numerous years.
Ms. Robinson is survived by daughters, Carolyn Banks Lloyd and Joyce Banks; a son, Diego Bernard Roberson; a sister, Bernice Lewis; 7 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; goddaughter, Kim Turner; best friend, Minnie Carr; and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Jasper Roberson and sisters, Louise Stancil and Margie Andrews.

Mildred M. Chambers, 69, of Osborn Ave., New Haven, departed this life on July 22, 2006.
She was the wife of Colon Chambers.
Mrs. Chambers was born in Natchez, AL on October 19, 1936, daughter of the late Lee and Odell McFadden Watts.
She was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital as a lab technician and was an evangelist at Macedonia Pentecostal Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard Heyward; a daughter, Sharon Heyward; brothers, Lawrence and Robert E. Watts; sisters, Arthelia Vaughn, Eunice W. Johnson, Elois Sullivan, Dorthea Bailey, Dorothy Burns and Helen M. Watts; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Oliver L. Watts and a sister, Levia O. Rayson.

James Manning, Jr.
1928 - 2008
James Manning, Jr., 80, of New Haven, CT, departed this life August 21, 2008. He was the husband of Hilda Crumble Manning for 53 years.
Born in Bethel, NC, April 1, 1928, he was the son of the late James Sr. and Mary Brown Manning.
Prior to retiring, James Manning Jr., was employed as a Laborer at HB Ives and Yale University.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Hilda Janice Manning, Pastor Ophelia M. Smith (Samuel) and Carolyn Barrett (William) all of New Haven, CT; a son, James Kelvin Manning of Hamden, CT; two sisters, Hannah Hinton of Virginia Beach, VA and Bertha Lee Manning of Bethel, NC; eight grandchildren; a great grandchild, a goddaughter, Yvonne Smith; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Everett.

Lizzie Mae "Nanny" Thompson

Lizzie Mae "Nanny" Thompson, 97, of Middletown, departed this life February 12, 2009.
Born in Fostoria, AL, October 15, 1911, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Maltilda Crumpton.
She was a member of Prayer Mission Church of God in Christ.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her daughter, Lena Bryant; a sister, Annie Bell Giles; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jessie Mae McFarlane; brothers, James Crumpton and Wilbert Carter; and sisters, Jessie Williams and Beatrice Small.
A celebration of Mrs. Thompson's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion First Baptist Church, 16 James A. Moses Ave, Middletown. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
