Patricia Ann Harris
1938 - 2005

Patricia Ann Harris, 67, of Roger White Dr., New Haven, died on September 17, 2005. She was the wife of Eddie L. Harris and the mother of Kim Cherie Harris of New Haven.
Patricia "Pat" was born September 6, 1938, in Greenville, SC to the late Ebb Sr. and Jessie Blackmon.
She was co-owner and director of Harris & Tucker School Inc., on the corner of Newhall and Goodrich St., Hamden, for over 35 years. Throughout the years, Pat Harris contributed greatly to the welfare and early development of countless children in the Greater New Haven area.
She was an active member of Mount Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
In addition to her husband and daughter, Pat is also survived by brothers, George Blackmon of New Haven and Jesse Blackmon of Florida; sisters, Mamie Kelley of New Jersey, Doris Blackmon of New Haven and Margaret (George) Tucker of Hamden; a godson, David L. Ellis of New Haven; three sisters in-law, Mary "Dee", Ramona and Virginia; an aunt, Mamie Reid of South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins and many friends. She was predeceased by brothers, Ebb Blackmon, Jr. and James Blackmon, Sr. and a sister, Catherine Dawson.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2005, at 5pm at Mount Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 64 Marlboro St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 3pm-5pm. Interment will be held Friday, September 23, 2005, at 9:30am in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Mabel Howard
1913- 2005

Mabel Howard, 92, of Gibbs St., New Haven, departed this life on December 26, 2005.
She was the widow of Whitmore Howard.
Mrs. Howard was born February 20, 1913, in Darlington, SC, daughter of the late Samuel and Carrie Jones.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Clomon; grandchildren, Lauren Edmondson, Steven, Dennis and Cathy Gambrell and George Clomon; foster children, Diane Heyward and Vincent Kilpatrick; 8 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be held Friday, December 30, 2005, at 10am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Lamont "Butch" Kiser
1956 - 2008

Lamont "Butch" Kiser, 52, of New Haven, entered into rest August 23, 2008 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a hard fight with a long illness. He was the husband of Rena Brown-Kiser.
Lamont was born in Norfolk, VA, July 25, 1956, son of the late Margaret Williams.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories a son, LeVar Lamont Brown and a daughter, Dr. LeMarra-Rena Brown, both of New Haven; a brother, Gordon "Mustang" Williams; sisters, Carrie Williams and Carmen Green; nephews, Taiwan, Marquis, Jovan and Coekhana Williams; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
His sister, Yvonne Williams, predeceased him.
A celebration of Lamont's life and legacy will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 9:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Evelyn Bloom

Evelyn Bloom, 96, of Salisbury, MD, formerly of New Haven, died on July 19, 2005.
Ms. Bloom was born in New Haven, CT and resided for the last 12 years with her niece, Tish Powell in Salisbury, MD.
She was a Registered Nurse and worked in New Jersey and Connecticut for over 45 years. Ms. Bloom was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Edgewood Congregation in New Haven.
Her survivors include two nieces, June Reed of Somers, NY and May Corley of Florida, formerly of West Haven, CT; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, John Moore and two sisters, Elizabeth Brinn and Mary Taylor.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2005, at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1123 Ella Grasso Blvd., New Haven. Friends may call at the Hall from 1pm-2pm. Interment Monday at 2pm in Hamden Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1123 Ella Grasso Blvd., New Haven, CT 06511.

David "King" Cogdell
1944 - 2006

David "King" Cogdell, 61, of New Haven, departed this life January 20, 2006.
Mr. Cogdell was born August 4, 1944, in Hookerton, NC.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 26, 2006, at 11am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10am-11am. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

William Brooks
1942 - 2006

William Brooks, 64, of New Haven, departed this life on September 3, 2006.
He was the husband of Hattie Long Brooks.
Born in Trenton, NJ, on January 1, 1942, he was the son of the late Robert and Marie Brooks.
Mr. Brooks had been employed as a supervisor in the shipping & receiving department at Sears Logistics.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Ralph, Roger, Russell and Ronald Roberson; daughters, Joanne Roberson Knight and Darshima Roberson; brothers, Robert Bruce Brooks II and Charles Brooks; sisters, Delores Brooks, Sharon Law, Carolyn Moore and Mary Jones; aunts, Shirley Daniels, Dorothy Watts and Margaret Howlett; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service celebrating William's life and legacy will be held Thursday, September 7, 2006, at 11 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 PM.

Leroy McQueen
1950 - 2009

Leroy McQueen, 58, of New Haven, departed this life April 4, 2009. He was the husband of Emma McQueen.
Born in Patrick, SC, December 17, 1950, he was the son of the late Freddie Harris and Marion McQueen.
Mr. McQueen was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a Specialist and Machinist.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Chris and Travis McQueen; brothers, Nathaniel, Otis and Lexco McQueen; sisters, Etta Mae Sanders and Patricia Marshall; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother, John Williams McQueen and Marie McQueen.
A celebration of Mr. McQueen's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at God's Miracles Unlimited Outreach, 1441 Dixwell Ave., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Edna M. Knox Hawley Jaynes
1921 - 2008

Edna M. Knox Hawley Jaynes, 87, of New Haven, went home to be with her heavenly Father on December 25, 2008.
Born in Chattanooga, TN, February 8, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Lee Eady Burton.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by Picker International as an Assembler.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Lester Hawley of West Haven, Ednora Knox Valentine-Guimares of West Haven, Charles Hawley (Audrey) of Silver Springs, MD, David Hawley (Barbara) of Hamden, Carolyn Suggs of North Haven and James Hawley of West Haven; six grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, George A. Knox, Jr. and David W. Hawley, Sr.
A celebration of Mrs. Jaynes' life and legacy will be held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ollie Marie Butler
1948 - 2005

Ollie Marie Butler, 56, of Tuthill St., West Haven, died on September 19, 2005.
Ms. Butler was born in Whitesville, NC, on December 30, 1948, daughter of the late Ulish I. and Marie Butler.
She was an associate minister at New Bethlehem Church in New Haven.
Ms. Butler is survived by sons, Jeremiah and Frederick Pickett; a daughter, Jessie Pickett; brothers, Ulish I., Ellis, Thomas, Sam, John and Caston Butler; sisters, Mary Lewis, Lisa Green, Elizabeth Daniels and Lottie Butler; 10 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Elsie Pickett Griffin and a brother, Charles Butler.
Funeral service will be held Friday, September 23, 2005, at 11am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10am-11am. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Paul Allbrooks
1944 - 2007

Paul Allbrooks, 62, of New Haven, departed this life February 12, 2007. He was the husband of Betty Sherard Allbrooks.
Born in Aberdeen, NC, June 14, 1944, he was the son of the late Paul and Sarah Allbrooks.
He was most recently employed by Winchester Repeating Arms and was a member of Unity Temple Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Paul Allbrooks, Jr., Terrence and Maurice Sherard, and Bryant Roundtree; a daughter, Sheila Roundtree; brothers, John and Willie Allbrooks; sisters, Margaret, Betty and Pearlie Mae Allbrooks; six grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Tyshan Allbrooks.
Funeral services celebrating Mr. Allbrooks' life and legacy will be held Friday, February 16, 2007, at 11 am at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10-11 am. Burial in Southern Pines, NC.

Gladys Smith
1931 - 2007

Gladys Smith, 76, of New Haven, departed this life August 20, 2007. She was the wife of Bennie Smith.
Born in Andrew, SC, July 13, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Agnes Williams.
Mrs. Smith had been employed by the Visiting Nurse Association as a Nurse's Assistant.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughters, Theresa Scott (Alex) and Marietta Smith-Evans (Ronald); a son, Ralph Smith; sisters, Eva Mae Curry and Shirley McMillian; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Kennie Smith and two brothers, Eugene and Ulysses Williams.
A celebration of Mrs. Smith's life and legacy will be held Monday, August 27, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Morning Star Church, 125 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
