Barbara A. (Palmore) Bowen of Pensacola, FL, formerly of CT, passed on December 8, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 6, 1950 in Mobile, AL, she was the daughter of Doris Neal and the late Henry Neal.
Barbara graduated Eli Whitney High School in Hamden, CT and Pensacola Junior College in Pensacola, FL. She worked for The Naval Education and Training Command with the Navy ROTC Program.
She was a dedicated mother and Grandmother. Heaven has truly received an Angel.
In addition to her mother, Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Pamela Bowen of Pensacola, FL; Danielle (First Class E6 Jarriel) Gardner of Japan; sisters, Sheila Neal of New Haven, CT and Tara Neal of Hamden, CT; brothers, Ronny Neal and Avant Jones both of Philadelphia, PA; four grandchildren, Andre and Aaron Bowen of Pensacola, FL and Avanni and Reina Gardner of Japan; truly dear friends, Nate and Tina Dancy of Pensacola, FL; and host of dear family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by a sister Sandra Coleman.
A celebration of Ms. Bowen's life and legacy will be held Friday, December 18, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park. James Benson, III, 30, of New Haven, departed this life February 26, 2010.
Born in New Haven, CT, May 19, 1979, he was the son of the late James Benson, Jr. and Margaret Lowery.
He was employed at XPect Discount Stores.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his companion, Kamilah Hargett; a son, Tyrese Benson; a daughter, Kaveah Benson; brothers, Jonathan Benson and Darren Parker; sisters, Tynisha Lowery, Leak Parker and Shavonne Benson; nephews, Tyshawn and Tymaine Lowery; a goddaughter, Justice Lowery; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mr. Benson’s life will be held Friday, March 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Church of God of Prophecy, 155 Grand Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Amanda Rae Baker, 23, of Middletown, departed this life October 19, 2009.
Born in Charlotte, NC, September 18, 1986, she was the daughter of Jean Baker and the late Anthony R. Baker.
Amanda was a student at the Center for Culinary Arts.
In addition to her mother, she leaves to cherish her memory a son, Shamar T. Baker; a daughter, Shamiah N. Horne; brothers, Anthony S. Henley and Travis A. Baker; grandparents, Earl and Louise Sharpe, Clinton Spivey and June Eastland; uncles, Marshall D. and Mark R. Baker; aunts, Vanessa and Karen Sharpe; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arthur Lee Allen “Bo-Jay”, 86, of New Haven, departed this life February 9, 2010. He was the husband of Willie Mae Allen.
Born in Havana, FL, August 23, 1923, he was the son of the late Jim and Laura JenningsAllen.
Prior to retiring, he was employed as a Truck Driver for over 50 years.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Maudeen and Patricia Allen; a son, Samuel Lee Allen; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by sons, Donald L. Allen and Arthur L. Allen, Jr.; a daughter, Alicia Winns; brothers, Jimmy L. and Johnny L. Allen; and a sister, Brownie Mae Walker.

Willie James Council, 64, of West Haven, departed this life March 5, 2010. He was the husband of Evangelist Janie L. Council.
Born in Martin County, NC, June 21, 1945, he was the son of the late Zeno and Minnie D. Council.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by Leaseway as a Truck Driver for 35 years. He was currently employed at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home as a Funeral Director's Assistant.
Willie was a member of Pitts Chapel UFWB Church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Senior Choir and Usher Board. He was a Vietnam War Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Pastor Pamela Council-Hughes (Charles) and Carolyn Williams; a son, Curvin K. Council (Kelly); grandchildren, Danina Britto, Kamozie Williams and Sharrona Council; a brother, Zeno Council, Jr.; sisters, Dora Maxine Perkins (Ernest), Dollie Marie Albritton and Jeanette Council; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Hoggard and a brother, Milton Leon Council.

Louvernia C. Roundtree, 76, of New Haven, departed this life February 15, 2010. She was the wife of Charlie Roundtree.
Born in Cairo, GA, July 13, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John and Lela Brown Corker.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the V.A. Medical Center in West Haven.
In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Elizabeth Corker Rowland; a goddaughter, Brenda Campbell (David); and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.

Pearlie M. Jones, 73, of New Haven, departed this life May 6, 2010 with her family by her side. She was the widow of Leroy Jones, Sr.
Born in Deatsville, AL, January 29, 1937, she was a daughter of the late James Sr and Marcilla Allen.
Mrs. Jones was employed as a Private Duty Nurse for numerous years.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Loretta Jones Bolden (Charles Sr.) and Andrea and Lisa Jones; a son, Stephen Jones, Sr.; sisters, Ola Rountree, Velma Eaton and Joann Sutton; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Marie Jones; sons, Leroy Jones, Jr. and Darrell Jones; brothers, James Jr., Willie and Napolean Allen; and sisters, Rosie Stewart, Millie Williams and Beatrice Brantley.

Mary Otelia Pugh, 64, of New Haven, departed this life January 23, 2010. She was the beloved wife of Alonzo Pugh for 44 years.
Born in Littleton, NC, May 7, 1945, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Ellen Bert Brinkley.
Mrs. Pugh was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 43 years.
She was a faithful member of St. Matthew’s UFWB Church where she was a member of the 8AM Ensemble Choir.
In addition to her loving husband, she leaves to cherish her memory, sisters, Velma Celestine Brinkley and Viola Elizabeth Williams (Harvey); brothers, George Wilson Brinkley (Daisy), Frank Thomas Brinkley (Dorothy), Johnnie Lynwood Brinkley (Shirley), Robert Lewis Brinkley (Karen), Waverly Elijah Brinkley, Alonzo Rayfield Brinkley (Shelley) and Andrew Calvin Brinkley (Doris); her mother in-law, Lossie B. Pugh; sister in-law, Patricia Brinkley; five stepbrothers; a stepsister; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her stepmother, Celia Brinkley and a brother, William Henry Brinkley.

Mary M. Alston Lucky, 72, of New Haven, departed this life on October 31, 2009. She was the widow of Winston Lucky, Sr.
Mrs. Lucky was born in Danville, VA, September 17, 1937, daughter of the late James Alston and Taylor Young Alston. She lived in New Haven County for over 50 years.
She was a former employee of Yale New Haven and Saint Raphael’s Hospitals. Prior to retiring, she was employed in various areas of Allied Health. She was a member of Zoe Ministries in Manhattan, NY.
She leaves daughters, Aisha M. Ajayi of Ohio, Lisa Y. Neale (Anthony) of Arkansas, Janis E. Lucky-Otello (Philippe) of Hamden, and Ondria L. Lucky of West Haven; seven grandchildren, Mark A. Gaddy, II, Joshua E. Gaddy, Michael A. Neale, Taylor M. Lucky, Amaris L. Lucky, and Jordan E. Otello; One great-grandson, Madison A.G. Lucky. She was predeceased by a son Mark A. Gaddy, I; sisters Theresa Reeves, Landonia Mulrain, Eardie Lopes, and Ann Sewell; brothers, Percy, James Jr. and Howard Alston.
