Donald Ray Hines, 77, of New Haven, departed this life January 24, 2010. He was the husband of Blanche Hundley Hines.
Born in Garland, NC, May 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Moses and Eunice Hines.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Armstrong Rubber Co. as a Machine Operator.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Kris Hines of Hamden, April Cooper and Lynn Campbell of New Haven and Donna Odom of West Haven; a sister, Marthel Parker of Chicago; grandchildren, Jovan Cooper, Kellie Odom, Michelle and Kyle Campbell, Ryan Grant and Kayla Wade; great grandchildren, Toni and Troi Odom-Kelly; a brother-at-heart, Tracey Lamb; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a sister, Ossie Fox.
A celebration of Mr. Hines' life and legacy will be held Friday, January 29, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be private.
Mattie D. "Baby Sis" Hudson
1932 - 2010
Mattie D. "Baby Sis" Hudson, 77, of Meriden, departed this life May 25, 2010.
Born in Baltimore, MD, June 6, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Perry Buie and Ida Banks.
She was employed for numerous years as a Certified Nurse's Assistant and was a member of Parker AME Zion Church in Meriden.
Ms. Hudson is survived by a son, Maurice Hudson; daughters, Cynthia, Nadine and Orstine Hudson and Beverly Hudson Inman (Rudolph); several grandchildren; great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Michael Hudson; a daughter, Laverne Hudson; a grandson, Corey Inman; and several sisters.
A celebration of Ms. Hudson's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 12:00 PM at Parker AME Zion Church, 1280 N. Broad St., Meriden. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 11:00-12:00. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden.
Mozelle L. Carter
1947 - 2010
Mozelle L. Carter, 62, of Bridgeport, departed this life August 6, 2010.
Born in Gastonia, NC, October 8, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille Carter.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Winchester Repeating Arms as a Fork Lift Operator.
She was a member of Messiah Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
Ms. Carter leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Rosetta Carter and Regina A. Carter Browning; a son, Harry L. Carter; a brother, Arthur Carter (Carolyn); sisters, Almatha Carter, Annette Sanders (Alphonso) and Mamie Wilson (Charles); nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Johnsie L., Prudence and Barbara Doris Carter.
A celebration of Ms. Carter's life and legacy will be held Friday, August 13, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Messiah Baptist Church, 210 Congress St., Bridgeport. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Park Cemetery.
Gary Jerome Chambers
1954 - 2010
Gary Jerome Chambers, 55, of Hamden, departed this life April 3, 2010. He was the husband of Velvet Claud.
Born in New Haven, CT, April 8, 1954, he was the son of Fletcher Chambers and Violet Gibson Newton.
Gary was employed at Connecticut Business Systems as a Copy Repair Technician. He served as a Coach, member of the Board of Directors and President of the Walter Pop Smith Little League for many years.
In addition to his wife and parents, he leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Brian Chambers; brothers, Glen, Randy (Gloria) and Stanley (Kathy) Chambers; sisters, Gail and Loretta Chambers and Joyce (Gary) Hyman; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Chambers; and his stepfather, Bishop James Newton.
A celebration of Mr. Chambers' life and legacy will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Living Word Ministries, 225 Meloy Rd., West Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Louisa Forbes
1936 - 2010
Louisa Forbes, 73, of West Haven, departed this life February 2, 2010.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, April 9, 1936, she was the daughter of Sallie Foster and the late Percy Foster.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at AT&T.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Robb Forbes; a daughter, Lynn Johnson (Timothy); her former spouse, Robert Forbes, Sr.; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010, at 11:00 AM at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
Frances M. Wilson
1927 - 2010
Frances M. Wilson passed away on Friday June 18, 2010 at CT Hospice in Branford. She was a loving and devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
Born on February 23, 1927 in New Haven, Frances was the daughter of late Jack Perry and Mary Davis Perry.
A life-long resident of New Haven, Frances worked for the Board of Education as a Teacher’s Assistant with the Head Start Program. In those twenty yeas she was a positive influence on the many children that entered her classrooms.
Frances is survived by a sister, Dorothy Perry Freeman; a son, Mustafa (Earl) Abdul-salaam, and daughters, JoAnn Wilson and Diane Wilson; five grandchildren, Aquil, Kamal (Nakia), Tara (Milford), Hafeeza (Sundiata), and Nadir; five great grandchildren; and a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her sisters Helen Perry Bosley and Marjorie Burns.
A private funeral and burial was held on Wednesday June 23 2010 at Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Anne L. Davis
1925 - 2010
Anne L. Davis, 84, of West Haven, departed this life March 18, 2010. She was the widow of Brazil Davis.
Born in Weldon, NC, August 25, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Maryland and Annie Newsome Ghee.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Bamburger’s in the Business Office.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Larry Davis; daughters, Shirley Dumas, Arnell Wilson and Anita and Roslyn McAuley; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a son, Maryland Davis.

Effie Mae Bryant

Effie Mae Bryant, 74, of New Haven, departed this life May 28, 2010.
Born in Roanoke, AL, February 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Effie Mae McPherson Clark.
She was employed at the former American Linen Co. for numerous years.
Ms. Bryant leaves to cherish her memory, a son Henry L. Bryant (Edyth); nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Ms. Bryant's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Missionary Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
James W. Daniel
1916 - 2010
James W. Daniel, 93, of New Haven, CT, departed this life January 27, 2010. He was the widower of Catherine L. Daniel.
Born in Fayetteville, NC, November 3, 1916, he was the son of the late Rev. Prince C. Daniels and Susie Daniels.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by the City of New Haven Board of Education as a Teacher.
Mr. Daniel was a WWII Army veteran.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Eric Jarrod Daniel; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Mr. Daniel's life and legacy will be held Friday, February 5, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Martin DePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00-9:30 AM. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternal services will begin at 9:30 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Claudia I. Barber
1918 - 2010
Claudia I. Barber, 91, of New Haven, departed this life January 6, 2010.
Born in Greensboro, NC, February 5, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Rankin.
Prior to retiring, she was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant.
Ms. Barber was a longtime member of St. Martin DePorres Church.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son, James Barber (Doris); daughters, Claudia Kay and Paula Jackson; an adopted son, William Javon O’Neal; a special nephew, Clarence Stewart; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Kelsie Anderson and Grace Geneva Moses; and brothers, Hubert, Edward, James and Perry Rankin.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Ms. Barber’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Martin DePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:30-10:30 A.M. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
