Magnora C. Dolberry
1920 - 2005

Magnora C. Dolberry, 85, of New Haven, CT, entered into eternal rest on December 31, 2005, at the Arden House in Hamden, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of James Henry Dolberry, Sr.
Mrs. Dolberry was born March 8, 1920, in Edgecomb County, NC, daughter of the late Rev. John H. and Malena Carney.
She was a member of St. Matthew's UFWB Church.
She is survived by her children, Jim Carney of Brooklyn, NY, Willie Earl (Deborah) Carney of West Haven, James H. Dolberry, Jr. of Greenville, NC, Douglas R. (Allie) Dolberry, Sr. of Fayetteville, NC and Debbie (Phillip) Bryant of Hamden; siblings, John R. Carney and Leatha C. Cotten, both of New Haven; a daughter in-law, Minnie Dolberry; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-one great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a son, John R. Dolberry; and siblings, Clayton and Moses Carney and Annie Mae Knight.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2006, at 11am at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Darrell Pontan Schloss
1914 - 2009

Darrell Pontan Schloss, 95, of Hamden, departed this life May 9, 2009.
Born in St. Mary, Jamaica, April 25, 1914, he was the son of the late Robert Schloss and Dorcas Davis.
He was employed for numerous years at Harold's Formal Wear as a Presser.
Mr. Schloss is survived by his sons, George Schloss of Jamaica and Clifford Schloss of Hamden; daughters, Patsy Lubsey of Florida, Angela and Sonya Rochester of New Haven and Beverly Rochester and Sandra Gilmore of Hamden; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Patsy Schloss Brown; a brother, Levy Morris; and a sister.
A celebration of Mr. Schloss' life and legacy will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Ronald D. Glover
1953 - 2010

Ronald D. Glover, 56, of New Haven, died April 27, 2010 at home.
Born in Johnstown, PA, May 17, 1953, he was the son of the late Morris D. Glover and Leona Cottle Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Christian Glover; daughter, Tracea D. Glover; son, Christian R. Glover; sisters, Deborah Cottle and Aldean Glover of Woodbridge, VA; sisters-in-law, Ramona Christian-Wade wife of Herbert, Philadelphia, PA and Juanita Gunby wife of Leroy, Johnstown, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in death by his brother, Reginald Glover. Member and employee in good standing of IBEW Local 90 for 35 years.
Funeral service will be held Monday, May 3, 2010, at 12:00 PM at Church of Christ, 16 Gem St., New Haven. Viewing and visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. Interment will be private.

Ruth E. Ford
1953 - 2010

Ruth E. Ford, 57, of New Haven, went home to be with the Lord on May 31, 2010 at CT Hospice.
Born in New Haven, CT, April 1, 1953, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Grace Ford.
She graduated from Richard C. Lee High School in 1972.
Ms. Ford was employed at New Haven Child Development for 25 years and had been employed at the Institute for Professional Practice for the past 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley Goodrum; stepdaughters, Tynetta Scott and Stanisha Goodrum; stepsons, Kenny Reid and Kievon Goodrum; sisters, Pauline and Bernadette Ford and Tiffany Toles; brothers, William Ford (Gloria) and Henry Ford; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Ms. Ford's life will be held Friday, June 4, 2010, at 6:00 PM at Wayfaring Ministries, 295 Treadwell St., Hamden.

Earleen S. Jackson

Earleen S. Jackson, of New Haven, departed this life on February 5, 2006, in CT Hospice.
A funeral service in celebration of Earleen's life will be held Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 2pm at Bethel Chapel Church in Bethel, NC. Burial will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery.

Raymond G. Horner
1934 - 2008

Raymond G. Horner, 74, of West Haven, departed this life December 27, 2008. He was the husband of Beverly Horner.
Born in New Haven, CT, July 19, 1934, he was the son of the late William R. and Esther A. Horner.
Prior to retiring, he was employed for 40 years by the US Postal Service as a Letter Carrier.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memories sons, Raymond Horner, Jr. (Rosemary) and Derek Horner, Sr.; a daughter, Debra Horner; brothers, Alfred Horner (Alice J.) and William Horner (Delores); sisters, Harriett Bonner, Esther Mason and Antoinette "Toni" Dunston; three grandchildren, Derek Horner, Jr., Darryn Horner and Laila Horner.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Verlene Horner.
A celebration of Mr. Horner's life and legacy will be held Friday, January 2, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

LeRoy W. Anderson, Jr.
1937 - 2008

LeRoy W. Anderson Jr., 71, of West Haven, died Wednesday, October 8, 2008. He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years Ethel L. Anderson.
Born in Hartford, Connecticut, May 4, 1937, he was the son of the late Bessie L. Smith Anderson and LeRoy W. Anderson Sr.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Elaine Anderson; son LeRoy W. Anderson III and daughter-in-law Sherell Anderson. He is also survived by his loving sisters; Bessie Lorraine Scott, Barbara Anderson Young, Dianne Edith Bishop, and Alberta Elaine Smith and her husband Jack Smith; his only brother, Charles F. Anderson and his wife Susan Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Samuel Bowens Jr., William and Millicent Bowens, Reverend Zella D. Johnson, Evangelist Hazel Merritt, Barbaralynn & Michael Robinson; godchildren Marcus and Michael Reaves, Michilla L. Robinson, Jalen Edward Glover; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
LeRoy graduated from Wilbur Cross High School class of 1958. He was a car salesman for New Haven Chrysler; a Tree Warden for the City of West Haven; owned Anderson Leasing Co.; and retired from the New Haven Parking Authority as the Night Manager.
He was a past Master of Widow’s Son Lodge #1 Prince Hall Affiliate and a Mason since 1959. He was a vice president of the West Haven Black Coalition and received many awards for his community service.
Bunny was his nickname and he was loved and respected by those who knew him. He was fondly known as “Uncle Bunny and the Don”. Bunny loved his family and took his role as the family patriarch very serious. You could depend on him. He could fix anything and debate about everything. He was a great storyteller. Bunny you will be sorely missed by all of the lives you touched. Rest in peace my Love.
A celebration of Mr. Anderson's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Community Baptist Church, 143 Shelton Avenue New Haven. Burial will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery. Friends may call at the church Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Masonic services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Haven Adult Day Center, 201 Noble Street, West Haven, Connecticut 06516.

Sarah Carr Hunter
1912 - 2009

Sarah Carr Hunter, 97, longtime New Haven resident, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 27, 2009.
She was born in Lenoir County, NC, the daughter of the late Julius Walter and Agnus Wiggins Williams.
Sarah did domestic work in New Haven until her retirement.
Sarah enjoyed reading the Bible and praying, giving advice to friends and family. Sarah's zest for life was evident in her active life.
Besides her parents, husbands, sister and brother, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Mattie Pearl Garrison of New Haven and son, Carlton Hunter of New Britain. Sarah leaves to treasure her memory, one cherished daughter, Mamie Ruth James of Greenville, NC and five proud sons, Elias Carr Jr. of Hebron, Usha Carr of North Haven, Ezekiel Carr of New Haven, Ben Hunter of New Haven and Dr. William Hunter of Largo, MD. Sarah leaves twenty-four grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, a host of cousins, and dear friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Dixwell Avenue Congregational Church, 217 Dixwell Avenue, New Haven, CT. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, Connecticut 06405.

Frances I. Corey
1947- 2005

Frances I. Corey, 58, of Derby Ave., New Haven, died October 19, 2005.
Ms. Corey was born March 24, 1947, in Bethel, NC, daughter of Christina Suggs and the late Charles Mooring.
She had been employed by the V.A. Medical Center and was a member of Christian Love Center.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Donnie Corey (Davida); a daughter, Patricia Corey (Rodney Bethea); brothers, Heywood and Hughe Suggs and Joe Moore; sisters, Lillian, Linda, and Christina Suggs, Christine Hoggard and Betty Moore; her former spouse, Jesse Corey; grandchildren, Donisha Monique, Kayla Marie and De-mari Trevon Corey and Corey Shemar Bethea; step-grandchildren, Shante Holmes and Lakia Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Milton Suggs.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at 11am at Christian Love Center, 154 Derby Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial will be private.

Trudie B. Townsend
1924 - 2006

Trudie B. Townsend, 81, of Judson Ave., New Haven, departed this life on August 22, 2006. She was the widow of Oscar T. Townsend.
Mrs. Townsend was born in Troy, AL, on October 24, 1924, daughter of the late William and Gertrude Preston.
She is survived by her children, Oscar Townsend, Jr., Willie Townsend, Linda Townsend-Maier and Renita Townsend-Manley; sisters in-law, Mackie L. Townsend and Sarah Streater; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by sons, William and Timothy Townsend; a brother, William Preston; and 2 grandchildren.
A funeral service celebrating Mrs. Townsend's life and legacy will be held Saturday, August 26, 2006, at 9:30 AM at United House of Prayer, 100 Dixwell Ave. Friends may call at the church from 8:30-9:30 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery
