Virgil Lee Kendrick
1935 - 2009

Virgil Lee Kendrick, 73, of West Haven, departed this life January 18, 2009.
Born in Albany, Georgia, August 30, 1935, he was the son of the late RC Winbush and Alice Mae Kendrick-Stokes.
Mr. Kendrick worked for many years at Interstate Container and K&H Container where he retired in 2000.
He is survived by his wife Mary Kendrick; sons, Jerry Kendrick and Victor (Lucia) Kendrick of West Haven, Virgil Glen (Kathy) Kendrick of Hamden; daughters, Sylvia (Ronald) Waller of New Haven, Jacqueline (Scott) Boyd of West Haven; a sister, Hattie Winbush of Albany, Georgia; 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Kendrick and his son, Terry Kendrick.
A celebration of Mr. Kendrick's life and legacy will be held Friday, January 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Pitts Chapel UFWB Church, 64 Brewster St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00–11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Margo L. Walker
1942 - 2009

Margo L. Walker, 66, of New Haven, departed this life January 30, 2009. She was the wife of Edward Walker.
Born in Torrington, CT, August 28, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Allen Thompson and Leva Frances Thompson.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the Hospital of St. Raphael and was also previously employed at Shop Rite Supermarket.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her stepchildren, Edward Walker, Jr, Kevin Ealey, Nicole and Melanie Walker and Tracey Harris; brothers, Gordon A. Thompson, Sr. and Donald W. Thompson; sisters, Roberta Proctor, Virginia Ivory, Pauline King and Phyllis White (Phillip); godchildren, Kaneisha S. Hill and Marino Reyes Colon, Jr.; brothers in-law, Robert Walker and Bobby "Jody" Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Oliver A. Thompson, Jr. and a sister, Patricia A. Thompson.
A celebration of Mrs. Walker's life will be held Friday, February 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Tyquan Lamar Brown Pitts
1987- 2005

Tyquan Lamar Brown Pitts, 17, of Bassett St., New Haven, died October 1, 2005.
He was born in New Haven, CT on November 18, 1987, son of Priscilla Pitts and Eugene Brown.
Tyquan was a student at Hillhouse High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by siblings, Marquia and Ebony Pitts, Jacqueline Rivera, Lashanee, Coendice and Ceondre Brown, Eugene Brown, Jr. and John Ratliff, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Ulia Pitts; aunts and uncles, Jacqueline Bellino, James Pitts, Willie Jackson, Bobby, Valerie and Joyce Brown, Shirley Ferguson, Jeanette Martinez and Janice Williams; a special cousin, Charlisha Bellino; cousins, Marques Pitts and Charles Bellino, Jr.; a niece; a nephew; and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather and his paternal grandparents.
Funeral service will be held Friday, October 7, 2005, at 11am at Union Temple Church, 54 Platt St.(corner of Elm and Platt St.) New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10am-11am. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Henry L. Burns
1924 - 2008

Henry L Burns “H” as he was affectionately known, 83, of Hamden, CT, departed this earthly life on November 26, 2008.
Henry was born on December 17, 1924 in Dumas, AK to the late Estella Burns and Henry Burns.
In 1950 he was joined in holy matrimony to the late Zenobia Walker-Burns.
Henry leaves to cherish his memories, a devoted nephew, Joseph Burns Sr.; nieces, Michelle Burns and Carmilla Burns; nephews; Wayne Burns, Joseph Burns, Jr. and Gregory Robinson-Burns. Henry also leaves to cherish his memories Rhaesetta Bryant, Pejay Lucky, Whitney Lucky and many other friends and family members.
A celebration of Mr. Burns’ life will be held Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 8:00-9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Carol M. Brooks
1943 - 2008

Carol M. Brooks, 65, of New Haven, departed this life November 2, 2008.
Born in Baltimore, MD, April 18, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Erma Bufford.
Prior to Ms. Brooks’ career at the US Postal service and retirement, she was employed by the Connecticut General Assembly as an Administrative Aide during the campaign of US Senator Lowell Weicker.
Ms. Brooks worked for the Urban Coalition and the federally registered political action committee for US Congressman Lawrence Denardis as well as the University of Connecticut Small Business Development Center Regional Office.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Yvette L. Ford of Hamden and Yolanda Monique Brooks of New Haven; a son, Darryl R. Brooks of Columbus, GA; brothers, Joseph Johnson of Brooklyn, NY and Vincent Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Cynthia A. Frasier (Ernest) of Pawleys Island, SC; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A daughter, Yvonne Darell Brooks and a son, Antoine Johnson, preceded her in death.
A memorial service to celebrate Ms. Brooks' life and legacy will be held Monday, November 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt Gideon Faith Fellowship Church, 363 Dixwell Ave., New Haven.

Andrea L. Caldwell
1970 - 2008

Andrea L. Caldwell, 38, of New Haven, departed this life October 24, 2008.
Born in Columbia, SC, September 30, 1970, she is the daughter of Florence Caldwell.
Andrea was employed by the City of New Haven Board of Education in the Custodial Services Department and also as a Teacher's Assistant. She was a member of House of Refuge Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, David Caldwell; a daughter, Ashley L. Caldwell; sisters, Erica Caldwell-Gaither and Tiffany Caldwell; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A daughter, LaTonya S. Caldwell preceded her in death.
A celebration of Andrea's life will be held Friday, October 31, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Love Center Deliverance Ministry, 19 George St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Mary Rose Shadd
1921- 2006

Mary Rose Shadd, 85, of Howard Ave., New Haven, departed this life on October 2, 2006.
Born in New London, N.C. on January 19, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Daisy Patton.
Ms. Shadd had been employed by Seamless Rubber Co. She was a member of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served on the Women's Guild and Usher Board.
She is survived by brothers, Carlie Patton (Lois) and Melvin Patton (Ruby) both of N.C.; sisters, Ruth Patton and Elizabeth Little both of New Haven, Priscilla Rogers (Ronald) of Hamden and Carolyn Walton (Napoleon) of N.C.; a daughter in-law, Lucille Patton of New Haven; grandchildren, Deborah Lawson (Lonnell), Maceo E. Patton (Renee) and Bruce Patton all of New Haven and Shelley Bond (Arthur) of Virginia; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Maceo Patton and siblings, Pansy Freeman and Eugene Patton, Jr.
A funeral service celebrating Ms. Shadd's life and legacy will be held Friday, October 6, 2006, at 11 AM at Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall St., Hamden. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 AM. Burial in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

Anntonette E. Joyner
1955 - 2008

Anntonette E. Joyner, 53, of New Haven, departed this life June 29, 2008.
Born in Greenville, NC, June 1, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Lillian Joyner.
She was employed at the New Haven Register.
Ms. Joyner is survived by her children, Deon, Danielle and Simone Joyner; siblings, Dr. Roy Cogdell, Amos Joyner, Jr., Viggo Joyner, Lillian Tyson and Essie Anderson; 3 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Angelo Joyner.
A celebration of Ms. Joyner's life and legacy will be held Saturday, July 5, 2008, at 9:00 AM at Mount Hope Temple, 555 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:00-9:00 AM. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Odell W. Washington
1923 - 2007

Odell W. Washington, 84, of Middletown, CT, departed this life August 30, 2007. He was the widower of Josephine Washington.
Born in Atlantic City, NJ, February 28, 1923, he was the son of the late William O. and Emma Washington.
Prior to retiring, he was employed by the US Postal Service as a Postal Clerk for 39 years.
He was a WWII Army veteran.
Mr. Washington is survived by his son, Bryan Washington (Elisa); a brother, Ronald Washington; a grandson, Vincent Daniel Crawford; and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by brothers, Linwood and Royce Washington; and a sister, Bessie Washington.
A celebration of Mr. Washington's life and legacy will be held Thursday, September 6, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in State Veterans' Cemetery, Middletown, CT.

Dewitt L. Jones
1922 - 2006

Dewitt L. Jones, 84, departed this life on November 7, 2006. He was the widower of Estella Frances Brown Jones.
Born in Clearwater, FL on May 29, 1922, he was the son of the late Ethel and Pearl Williams Brown.
Mr. Jones' places of employment included Winchester Repeating Arms and SNET. He was the owner and operator of the former Jones-Brown Funeral Home in New Haven.
He served two terms as an Alderman in New Haven, was elected to serve on the Hamden Board of Education as chairman and also served as president of Walter Pop Smith Little League for numerous years. Mr. Jones was a 33rd Degree Mason, a member of Widow's Son Lodge #1, OES Eureka Chapter #2, The Consistory, Prince Hall Grand Chapter in the State of CT and was also a WWII Army veteran.
He is survived by a son, Richard F. 'Bo" Jones (Beverly); brothers, George and Johnny Brown; a sister, Shirley Grant; a niece, Diane Kirby; a goddaughter, Jackie Korby; and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service celebrating Mr. Jones' life and legacy will be held Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 9 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8-9 AM. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.
