Derrick Maurice Moses, 49, of New Haven, departed this life August 21, 2009.
Born in New Haven, CT, January 23, 1960, he was the son of the late Elder Melvin Moses and Mable Moses.
He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Jeremiah and Joshua Moses; daughters, Jensine and Dericka Moses; brothers, Clifford Moses, Alex Dortche-Moses and Earl Whitaker-Moses; his companion, Noko Dorsey; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Melvin, Jr., Enoch and Jonathan Moses.
A celebration of Mr. Moses' life and legacy will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Kuryn Lee'Ann Evans
2009 - 2009
Kuryn Lee'Ann Evans, infant daughter of Dorothy Crimley and Kendall Evans, departed this life April 27, 2009.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Karon Evans; grandparents, Rose Twitty and Eddie Verner; step-grandfather, Marvin Patterson; aunt, April Crimley; godmother, Jennifer Dixon; and other relatives.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Benjamin Franklyn Moore, Jr.
1960 - 2009
Benjamin Franklyn Moore, Jr., 48, of New Haven, departed this life May 9, 2009.
Born in Charleston, SC, October 12, 1960, he was the son of Benjamin Franklyn Moore, Sr. and Willette J. Moore.
Franklyn attended the Atlanta Public Schools and graduated from Southwest High School. He completed his undergraduate studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA and received his MBA from the University of Hartford.
Upon graduation, Franklyn was employed at four subsidiaries of Colt Industrial. He was presently employed at Energizer Personal Care as Manager of Commercial Process Technology.
Franklyn joined the church at an early age and was faithful until his death. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, Alexander Benjamin Moore; a sister, Benita Stephens (William); and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Franklyn’s life and legacy will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 6:00-6:30 P.M. Omega Psi Phi Fraternal service will begin at 6:30 P.M. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Savannah Grove Baptist Church and burial in Sunset Memory Garden in Effingham, SC.
John W. Davis, Jr.
1939 - 2009
John W. Davis Jr., 70, of New Haven, departed this life May 3, 2009. He was the husband of Carol Davis.
Born in New Haven, CT, April 2, 1939, he was the son of the late John W. Davis, Sr. and Leora Watson Davis.
He was employed at Metro Taxi and was a member of Varick A.M.E. Zion Church of New Haven since 1940.
In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves to mourn, his former wife, Marion Davis; children, Jerry Mitchell, Michael Wooten, John W. Davis III, Moneil Wooten, Anthony Davis, Bernard Comfort, Andre Davis, John W. Davis IV, Margaret Wooten, Marian Stenson, Carla Davis, Monita Davis, Denise Stevenson, Malika Comfort, Kenya Clark, and Johanna Davis; a devoted sister, Arlene Davis-Rudd and niece, Dawn Rudd; as well as a favorite aunt, Ruby Watson-Carter of New Haven. Mr. Davis also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. "Willie" Davis also leaves a very special friend, Mr. Bill Scalzi, CEO and Operator of Metro Taxi Company.
He was predeceased by a son, Jeremy Davis.

Jeremiah Lamar Clarke

Jeremiah Lamar Clarke, infant son of Aretha Clarke and Troy Matthews, departed this life on July 7, 2005.
He was born May 14, 2005, in New Haven.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by siblings, Daequan, Brenda, Alexis, Sonya, Destiny and Tattyanna Clarke, Troy Matthews Jr. and Natori Arrington; and grandparents, William and Darlene Matthews and Clara Henry. He was predeceased by a sister, Jamiaya Clarke.
Graveside service, Thursday at 11am at Evergreen Cemetery.
Dennis C. Gambrell
1955 - 2008
Dennis C. Gambrell, of Branford, departed this life September 20, 2008.
Born in New Haven, CT, March 27, 1955, he was the son of Ann Clomon and the late George Clomon.
He attended Hamden High School where he excelled on the football team and he received a degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
Prior to his illness, he was employed as a Machinist at Sylvan R. Shemitz Designs. He also worked at Pratt & Whitney for many years.
In addition to his mother and his beloved partner, Jacqueline Johnson; he leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Deidre Gambrell; a son, Dennis Freeman; sisters, Cathy Gambrell and Lauren Edmonson; brothers, Steven Gambrell and George Clomon; grandchildren, Marquai, Jasmine and Chris Freeman; and a host of other relatives and friends.
His biological father, Otis Gambrell, preceded him in death.

John W. Clark
1943 - 2007
John W. Clark, 63, of Spring St., New Haven, CT, departed this life Sunday, March 25, 2007 after a brief illness with his friend and companion, Emily Chisolm by his side.
Born in Rocky Mount, NC, October 30, 1943, he was the son of the late Mark and Tempie Clark.
Mr. Clark was a graduate of Nash Central High School, Class of 1962. Prior to retiring, John was employed by Metro-North Railroad for over 25 years as a Bridge Operator. He was a member of Oriental Lodge # 6 PHA.
He leaves to cherish his memories, a son, Gerald Clark; two granddaughters, Tajhare Moore and Fantasia Clark; brothers, Robert and James Clark of Connecticut, Fred, Levon and Lonnie Clark of Rocky Mount, NC; sisters, Helen Clark and Mary Caudle of Rocky Mount, NC; an aunt, Lena Hargrove of Rocky Mount, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Arlisa Clark; a son, Cornelius Clark; a brother, Charlie Clark and a sister, Tempie Lou Clark.

Odessa Cash
1924 - 2009
Odessa Cash, 84, of Hamden, departed this life January 4, 2009. She was the widow of Robert Cash.
Born in Chesterfield, SC, June 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Maude Ratliff.
She was employed as a Caregiver for numerous years.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Ollia Mae, Thelma and Lisa Kelly, Katherine Lockwood (Lawrence), Redessa George (Desmond) and Janie McCotter; sons, Ray Thomas, Chester (Paula), and Clayton Cash (Janice), Verdell Ratliff and Robert Kelly; 30 grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Leroy and James Ratliff.

Melvin Moses
1932 - 2009
District Elder Melvin Moses, 76, departed this life on Wednesday April 1, 2009. He was born in Newark, New Jersey on May 31, 1932, son of the late James and Marie Moses.
He attended the Newark Public School System and after graduation served in the US Air force from 1956 to 1960.
He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Air force and re-located to New Haven, Connecticut to attend Culinary School. It was there in New Haven that he met and married
Mabel Roundtree in June of 1957. To this union four sons were born Melvin, Jonathan, Derrick and Enoch. He also raised his sons Alex and Earl.
District Elder Melvin Moses, was the pastor of Shekinah Glory Apostolic church until his illness prevented him from serving in that position. District Elder Moses was one who not only loved the Lord, but he loved the work that God ordained him to do while pastoring at Shekinah Glory.
In addition to serving as District Elder, he was the owner of Confidence Exterminating Company.
District Elder Moses leaves to cherish his memory his son Derrick Moses of New Haven, CT, brother, Claude Moses and sister Verdel Thompson both of New Jersey; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Jensine, Joshua and Derricka Moses of New Haven CT.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mabel and cherished sons Melvin Laron, Jonathan and Enoch. He also leaves to mourn his Church family and a host of relatives and friends.
Homegoing service will be held Monday, April 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven, CT. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
Helen M. Bosley
1923 - 2008
Helen Marion Bosley, 85, of New Haven, departed this life December 7, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Arthur J. Bosley, Sr. for over 64 years.
Born in New Haven, CT, January 12, 1923, the oldest of four daughters and the matriarch of her family, she was the proud daughter of the late Jack and Mary Perry.
She was the mother of Jacqueline McClure, Arthur J. Bosley Jr., Sandra (Cliff) McClure, and Shawn (Cynthia) Bosley; and sister of Dorothy Freeman and Francis Wilson. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eleven great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Burns.
Mrs. Bosley worked for numerous federal and state community action programs and retired from Connecticut National Bank. She served the city as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the New Haven Housing Authority as well as served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Greater New Haven Inner City Daycare Council, Inc.; Black Association of Republicans (BAR); New Haven Republican Town Committee; Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Citizens; and West Hills/West Rock Neighborhood Association. She was a charter member of Ebonite Social & Civic Club. She was selected twice as a Connecticut delegate for the National Republican Convention.
Mrs. Bosley was a member of Varick A.M.E. Zion Church and the NAACP. She was a beloved advocate for the Black Community, elderly people and the underprivileged.
A celebration of Mrs. Bosley's life and legacy will be held Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Varick AME Zion Church, 246 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
